This article is about the music genre. For the 2013 mixtape of the same name, see Acid Rap (mixtape).

Acid rap is a style of music pioneered by Detroit artist Esham sometime in the late 1980's. It is characterized by vinyl sampling of funk and psychedelic rock groups and dark, high energetic wicked rhymes. Groups like Insane Clown Posse and Natas adapted heavily off the style in the 1990's. It is sometimes also referred to as horrorcore and wicked shit.
