My Archiving Policies

  • All old threads will be archived, partly or wholly
  • Barnstars, in good faith, will be archived separately

Archiving

Hey Anwar, if you ever need to tidy stuff up but still keep it, you can create a subpage of your talkpage, called (eg) User talk:Anwar Saadat/Archive 1. Try Misplaced Pages:How to archive a talk page for proper instructions. A lot of folk take pride in keeping the good and the bad, regardless - but it's your page, do it how you like! Cheers, JackyR 00:10, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

If the updates are retained I retain all notes pertaining to them. Otherwise, its a waste of space. Anwar saadat 13:49, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Sounds a good idea... Must clean up my own talk page... ;-) JackyR 11:42, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
But it is worth heeding the advice of some of the edits to your talkpage before you delete them, such as adding correct copyright information to the various images you uploaded! 12:41, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Benon's RfA

thankyou Anwar saadat for the additional question on my rfa, and taking the time to consider it, i have now answered it, thanks Benon 02:53, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I have given my vote. Please mind your tally. One user has changed from neutral stance to support. Anwar saadat 13:50, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Sukh's RfA

Thank you for your vote on my RfA. Unfortunately there was no consensus reached at 43 support, 18 oppose and 8 neutral. I've just found out that there is a feature in "my preferences" that forces me to use edit summaries. I've now got it enabled :) Thanks again. Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 15:51, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Buchanan-Hermit's RfA

Thank you,Anwar saadat!
Thank you for voting for my recent RfA, which passed (to my extreme surprise and shock) with a total tally of 66/15/2. Although you didn't give me a support vote, I would nevertheless like to thank you for your helpful comments and offer a helping hand in any admin-related tasks that may be required -- it's as simple as leaving a message on my talkpage. Thanks again! -→Buchanan-Hermit/!? 22:41, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Blnguyen's RfA

Anwar, I am appealing to you to reconsider your oppose vote. Overwhelming community consensus shows that you are completely isolated in your view and the comments below your vote should futher convince you that your concerns have no foundation. I honestly believe that a retraction by you before the vote closes would be seen by others as a sign of maturity on your part. -- I@ntalk 15:34, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

You mention Mailer diablo's test. Blnguyen has two Featured lists which, according to the test can be used as a subsitute. -- I@ntalk 01:26, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Ajith

As you've archived your compromise I'll have to start a new section. Anyway, the point is this. I don't agree with your compromise. If you decided to go and start edit North Indian pages I wouldn't care, as long as your edits conformed with Misplaced Pages policies. But the thing you seem to have forgotten is that Misplaced Pages is the Free Encyclopaedia that anyone can edit. That includes non-Tamils, our lack of knowledge on Kollywood does not reflect on our lack of knowledge of English and Misplaced Pages Policies. If we read the article and see it contains unnecessary boasting (by using words like mega-) then we will change it. So, no, you cannot bar non-Tamils from editing Kollywood articles. Nobleeagle (Talk) 08:26, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

I agree with Nobleeagle here. Read verbatim, Misplaced Pages's policy states that: "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly or redistributed by others, do not submit it." -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 08:46, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry

Anwar, despite my suggestion to you to wait for a couple of days, you've gone ahead making edits across the board. Also, your "compromise" saying non-Tamils should be barred from editing Tamil articles is, at best, unacceptable. -- Sundar 08:38, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

I note that you have not edited across the board. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Just cool off for some more time. -- Sundar 09:39, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
He's back now, apparently I'm a fascist. Nobleeagle (Talk) 07:36, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
And now he's attacking good quality articles like Indian cricket team, which is currently running for SAC and just became a Good Article. He's stalking me and Zora, as his only edits to articles like Rajesh Khanna, Indian cricket team and Hindutva have been reversions. Nobleeagle (Talk) 07:40, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
You also should not revert Zora on Veer-Zaara citing "italicise" when it is clearly a content replacement.ßlηguγΣη | Have your say!!! - review me 07:44, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Did I mention Major power, I suspect he's checking my contributions and visiting each of the pages. Nobleeagle (Talk) 07:46, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, I give up. Deal with him as per the policies. -- Sundar 08:55, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Block

Anwar, despite repeated requests for civility by so many wikipedians, you continue to break the decorum and act uncivil. I had no option but to have you blocked for 24 hrs. This will be noted in your block log, and it might hurt your chances for adminship in the future. If you wish to be an admin in the future, please start maturing. =Nichalp «Talk»= 15:26, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Ajith Official Homepage

Hello, Anwar, I noticed that you are looking for a picture of Ajith to add it to the corresponding article without other editors deleting it again because of copyright issues. If you know a page where I can find some pictures of him from his movies like promotional material or screen shots, we could take a picture from there and I'll look after copyright information so Ajith finally gets his well-deserved picture. Also: the link in his box (ajithfans.com) is not his official homepage, but a fan page. It says there that it is about Ajith but not affiliated with him. If he has an official homepage, built by his agent or his production company, we could link it, but fan pages, because of copyright issues should generally not be linked at Misplaced Pages. It has nothing to do with the page itself, merely with the fact that it's not Ajith's official homepage. Best regards, --Plumcouch 17:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello, Anwar, I found a picture of Ajith with copyright information, so I added it. Hope you are happy with it. Also, I found his official homepage and linked it under his picture. Best regards, --Plumcouch 19:31, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Clear up a bit of controversy

Just want to clarify whether any of the following IP Addresses are yours. As their contributions fit perfectly with your interests and so does their POV. Could you please clear up the matter. Thanks. Nobleeagle (Talk) 08:42, 17 May 2006 (UTC) User:212.32.85.221 User:212.32.115.163

Urban data on districts

Hello Anwar, Good job updating the urban data on the district articles. Here is barnstar for that. May I suggest that you add a sub-heading, "Demographics" and add the information under it. Thanks, Ganeshk (talk) 18:22, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

I, Ganeshk, present you this working man's barnstar, in appreciation of his efforts updating demographic data on Indian district articles. Ganeshk (talk) 18:22, 14 May 2006 (UTC)

Vijay

Hello, Anwar, I noticed your changes of copyright information of the Vijay picture. You tagged it as "no information on his copyright status". Copyright status information was provided, along with the copyright holder - is anything wrong with the copyright issue I am not aware of? --Plumcouch 07:24, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, its not a screenshot and its not from Aathi. It was a wallpaper collage copyrighted by indiaglitz.com Anwar saadat 13:53, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Hello, Anwar. I went to the official page, http://www.aathithefilm.com/ and took it from there. I re-tagged it as promotional picture, as it is a promo picture for the movie, if it's not a screenie. That should do. Best regards, --Plumcouch 16:54, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Featured list removal candidates

I noticed recently that you nominated List of Indian districts for removal. Earlier, the old discussion, from a previous removal attempt was displaying. It was for that reason that I reverted your edits.

I have since seen that you wish to renominate it for removal. In that case, please revert your edits to the page for the current nomination because a record has to be kept of it. Move it to some appropriate place, such as Misplaced Pages:Featured list removal candidates/List of Indian districts/Archive 1. Then, write the new removal nomination at the redirect page. This way, a record of the old discussion is kept outside of the edit history. This is said in a different way at Misplaced Pages:Featured list removal candidates.

PS: I noticed that your username is Anwar Saadat. Since there is a real-life historical figure with the name Anwar Sadat, it would probably benefit you to either change your username or at least change your signature (preferences) because some people might think that it is an inappropriate username. Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 00:03, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

I am not sure if my daddy would be pleased if I change my (user)name. So that's out of the question. Aloan has been kind enough to revert, move and redirect the renomination as you said. I am not good at housekeeping. How to change my signature? Anwar saadat 15:57, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello Anwar. I'd like to tell you that despite the previous disagreement about Ajith Kumar, I think that you are doing an excellent job with the economic statistics. Your contributions are valuable. Keep it up!Blnguyen | Have your say!!! - review me 01:38, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Request

Hi, I see that you use Tamil in your edit summaries many a time. That would be problematic for people who are not conversant with the language. Since this is the English WP, I request you to stick to English. In case you are interested in contributing in Tamil, you may find the Tamil Misplaced Pages more relevant. Thanks, --Gurubrahma 06:10, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Regarding User:Holy Ganga

I'm sorry you think that my tool is doing harm to Misplaced Pages, and I certainly do not wish for this to be the case. I'm looking into the situation with Holy Ganga, though I might add that the appropriate place to report users who perhaps should not be using the tool would be at User talk:AmiDaniel/VP/Abuse. If what you claim about his recent 3RR blocks is true, I will remove him from the list of approved users. AmiDaniel (talk) 21:19, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

I've asked Holy Ganga to comment on the matter; however, he has yet to do so. There seems to be consensus among myself and others after reviewing the case in depth to take no action against him currently, and so unless you can provide any further evidence on the matter, he will not lose his privilege of using the tool. I take all allegations that someone has abused this tool quite seriously, as I've been gravely concerned about abuse since day one. Thus, if you can substantiate your claim that he should not be using it, I will oblige. Please voice your opinion here. I also don't completely understand why you're opposing my RfA on these grounds, but if you feel that it's a reason to oppose, then I will respect that. By the way, I've also changed my header on this message from "Arming the Vandal" back to "Regarding User:Holy Ganga," and I'd prefer if you would please not put words in my mouth. Thanks. AmiDaniel (talk) 02:07, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
I hope this message isn't redundant, but I'd like to point out that Holy Ganga has responded on the RfA page. --M1ss1ontomars2k4 04:42, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

concerns are mounting

Anwarbhai - the concerns regarding your behavior are mounting. It is obvious that you are a productive editor - it would be great to work with you here. But you are not giving that opportunity to anyone by behaving irresponsibily and insulting so many decent editors. Misplaced Pages is a brotherhood of encyclopedia-builders. Your hostile behavior is the exact kind of thing which can kill WP. Not even Jimbo Wales would be allowed to do what you're doing. You need to listen to the advice given by people who don't want to be your enemies, and improve. We can have a frank talk, but you need to take these steps. Rama's Arrow 16:23, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

no personal attacks

Anwarbhai - your refactoring your talkpage and derogatory remarks amount to a personal attack against editors who are trying to talk to you. As you were advised on Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#A_Troll_supports_Vandal_and_takes_over_my_talk_page, and by your previous blocks by Nichalp and Essjay, you need to realize the error of your ways.

Please see WP:NPA, remove the attacking format of your talkpage by removing the insulting headers and stop this behavior. We are willing to talk frank and honestly with you on any issues you might have. You've not given this method a chance and that's disrupting WP and wasting all our time - we should be building an encyclopedia, not quarrelling. Rama's Arrow 17:19, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

I hope you also realize that a frank apology is in order from you to Nobleeagle, Sundar and Aksi great. Rama's Arrow 17:22, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Continuing issues

Hi - I hope you realize that your "free speech" banner can be easily construed as offensive to women (which it is) and senior citizens, and thus can easily become a violation of WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA. Nowhere is free speech construed to mean you can attack anybody you like, or perhaps you must acquaint yourself with concepts like libel and slander. I can't understand what brings so much hostility to your heart. You didn't recognize the numerous hands of friendship offered to you, and now you respond with defiance to a definitive call for an end to incivility and personal attacks. If you are so committed to building an encyclopedia, why are you waging a war against the community? I hope the bad blood clears soon, and results in a better future working relationship with other users. Rama's Arrow 02:49, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Warning

Please understand the policies and procedures of WP properly before trying to apply them. G5 applies only to those pages created by a banned user while they were banned. It obviously means that it doesn't apply to pages created before they were banned. Please take time to understand why someone is removing your speedy tags rather than simply reverting their actions. Continuing in this manner would result in a block. You are free to apply other deletion mechanisms such as other CSD tags, PROD or AFD if they are applicable. --Gurubrahma 18:57, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

This is a chart of bans of the proven puppets of the vandal Prin. I believe all articles created by his puppets after the first ban date (11 April) are eligible for speedy del under { db-ban }.
Ban Date Ban Duration Puppet/Puppeteer
11 April 48 hours User:Prin
14 April 96 hours User:Prin
19 April 1 month User:Yellow
23 April Indefinite User:Yellow, User:Cumbi, User:R.Madhavan, User:Jathu
24 April Indefinite User:The_Man's_Plans
10 May Indefinite User:Naan_Kadavul
17 May Indefinite User:Prin, User:Jath16, User:Benzee
18 May Indefinite User:CoolJ
22 May Indefinite User:Anwar_saadat_the_muslim_extremist
24 May Indefinite User:Prince_06, User:Ghajini, User:Anwari_Begum

The following articles were created after 11 April by his puppets - Jayam, List_of_popular_Kollywood_films, Mallika_Kapoor, Ramesh_Khanna, Sadaf_Mohammed_Syed, Sandhya, South_Filmfare_Award_for_Best_Actor_(Tamil)

Anwar 21:01, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

I think you are confusing ban and block. These two are two different things. The account Prin was banned on 17 May. Also, if deletion going by the date of banning was so simple, even a bot could do it. It is not. The admins need to look at other editors of the article etc. Also, it'd be better if you put a notice on your talkpage saying that you'd reply here. I was waiting for a reply from you on my talkpage! --Gurubrahma 04:46, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm no userbox expert, but it looks like the userbox you put on my Talk page only works if your ID on Wikibooks is the same as on the en. Misplaced Pages. User:Zoe| 22:22, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

Subpages

The same copyright rules apply all over Misplaced Pages, for the simple reason that if WP gets sued, it won't matter which part of the website the copyright breach is on. Subpages. Hmm, surely the same rules apply as for user pages. WP:User page is an unusually good guide to what is and isn't OK. Specifically: "Generally, you should avoid substantial content on your user page that is unrelated to Misplaced Pages." I think you'd be challenged pretty quickly to show how what you're proposing relates to WP (if I've understood).

On the other hand, if you set something like that up at MySpace or the like, you'd be perfectly entitled to put a quick link to it from your WP user page (but obviously not to turn your user page into a front page for the MySpace jobby).

By the way, v interesting to see the Featured Article kerfuffle re Dorset. I've encountered this before, where the editors of a FA want their baby frozen in time. In the end, of course, it will lead to those articles becoming redundant faster: they'll continue to look and sound terribly pretty – and become museum pieces. Although I guess one should take the trouble of reading through their talk pages, to see if one's edit is something that has been thrashed out previously. *sigh* Anyway, hope that helps, JackyR | Talk 14:38, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

OK, so no temples in subpages. LOL. Re: Dorset - that's true. A FA parent quickly becomes territorial. The {inuse} tag is clearly a fence that others ought not to jump. Anwar 15:26, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

UK

Lovely table

I like it, I like it! Have only seen the Medway economics table, but I'm guessing you've done a lot more. Nice one: a really valuable addition to Misplaced Pages. And buddy, sort yourself out before you get banned, eh? Being a "mature civil editor, with wide-ranging interests" sounds a great idea. All the best, JackyR | Talk 17:40, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Will certainly do anything helpful if I can, but I don't quite get you: "conforms"? JackyR | Talk 20:17, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Yep like conform to all senses. See above posts. Anwar 20:19, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Dorset

Dorset is a featured article, it is supposed to represent our best work, so you shouldn't just go dumping stuff in without consideration for how it fits and whether it contributes anything to the article. I appologise for not giving a proper edit summary, but I was intending to make further edits which would have made the explanation redundant. Here is why I reverted:

  1. Redundant changes to article structure
  2. Inappropriate presentation for this article
  3. The data is just some raw numbers:
    1. Those who will understand the data straight away probably won't be the sort who come to Misplaced Pages to look for it.
    2. Those reading the article for curiosity/learning probably won't learn much of use from the table.
    3. Without comparing the GVA to other regions/counties/cities/the UK as a whole, it tells us nothing about the county. I am already working on a comparison with neighbouring counties.
    4. Raw data comparing years is again meaningless to the vast majority of readers. A sentence telling us whether GVA grew more or less than the national average would tell us more about the state of the economy.

Joe D (t) 21:32, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Regarding your second revert. If that's what you believe, do feel free to start a website that lists random unconnected facts. The rest of us are trying to write an encyclopedia. Joe D (t) 21:34, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Do you believe narrations are more effective than tables. They aid tables. They can never replace tables. Otherwise, you have to explain the agri-trend, industry trend and services' trend in so many words. Tables are more efficient and aesthetic. Economy sections can never be redundant. I suggest you keep the table in addition to any narration or inference of your words for inter-county comparisons or relative growth vis-a-vis nation. Misplaced Pages is an encyclopaedia with multimedia capabilities. It is best to avail all those features for pedagogical purposes. Appreciating your civility. Anwar 21:41, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Economic stats tables again

I suppose it would be shedload of work, but it would be interesting to include GVA per capita. Otherwise it doesn't meaan anything useful to say that London has a larger GVA than Rutland, but does the average person in Rutland produce more than the average Londoner? Is there a way to modify the template so that it calculates that figure without you having to revisit every page that you've already done? --Concrete Cowboy 23:29, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

GVA per capita is a arbitrary figure unlike GVA which is actual. So those variables should probably be used with caution. GVA data is useful in getting a practical idea of trend of industry-wise relative growth and market potential. I believe such aggregate figures are more effective in business planning as well as pedagogy. Bcoz, it hardly matters to a curious businessman if Rutland is poorer or richer than London if all his supplies, products, staff and markets are established in Rutland only. I have no clue about inserting scripts into tables for auto-sum. Anwar 02:49, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Seeking Editor Review Commentary (If You Like)

Hi. In conjunction with my RfA (that you voted on), I have created an editor review, to give people a chance to comment as to ways in which I can branch out or alter my contributions to Misplaced Pages. An RfA seems to solely focus on how one's temperment and contributions relate to how they might handle administrative powers (and the consensus on that seems to be that I'm not quite ready); the editor review opens things up a little more to a larger focus, and I'd love to hear community feedback in the sense of that larger focus, too. If you feel you've already expressed yourself sufficiently when casting your vote, then by all means don't worry about it, but if any thoughts come to mind or if you'd like to expound upon any suggestions or commentary, it would be appreciated. In any case, I appreciated you taking the time to express your opinion on my RfA, and I thank you for that. — WCityMike (talk • contribs) 19:54, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey Anwar

I know, you may not like me and I might not like you, but both of us are keen contributers to Tamil Cinema. As we know, Ajith is a hot topic and this chinna payane named Ganeshkumar 1989 is reverting back constantly to the style that The Man's Plans had. A war is on the brink. And POV is back and he has destroyed ur lovely table and ur writing about the Nineties and Noughts. We must team up! Prin S 18:00, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Help needed

Hi Anwar. Can you help me out with the economy section of Ahmedabad? I am clueless about where to get stats and you seem to have some good sources. - Aksi_great (talk) 18:28, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

My RfA

Thanks
Thanks
Anwar saadat, thank you for participating in my RfA. Unfortunately, a great number of oppose voters felt that I lacked experience, and a consensus was not reached (the final tally was 30/28/10). Perhaps I will try again in another few months when I have a few more edits under my belt. If I do, I hope I can count on your support. Thanks again! Cool3 talk 20:48, 2 June 2006 (UTC) (UTC)

My Thanks

I wanted to drop a brief note on your talk page (one admittedly not written to you only, but nevertheless truly meant) to thank you for your vote in my Request for Adminship, which concluded this evening. Even though it was unsuccessful, it did make clear to me some areas in which I can improve my contributions to Misplaced Pages, both in terms of the areas in which I can participate and the manner in which I can participate. I do plan on, at some point in the future (although, I think, not the near future), attempting the process again, and I hope you will consider participating in that voting process as well. If you wish in the future to offer any constructive criticism to me, or if I may assist you with anything, I hope you will not hesitate to contact me. Thanks again. — WCityMike  ⇓ plz reply HERE  (why?) ⇓  04:29, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
