Saarland is one of the 16 Bundesländer in Germany. Capital: Saarbrücken. The state has 1.07 million inhabitants on 2570 square kilometres (417 inh./sq.km).

On January 13, 1935 a plebiscite showed that 90.3% of those voting wished to join Nazi Germany.
