Power is the second single album by popular South Korean boy band, B.A.P. The single-album was released digitally on April 27, 2012, and contains four tracks. The lead single, "Power", was released on April 27, 2012 through various online digital stores.
Background and promotion
TS Entertainment released the teaser video for B.A.P's second single album title song 'Power' on many different online sites on the 23rd. This teaser video shows spaceships covered in dirt, and the blown up cars in the background made it seem like a blockbuster type of movie. Especially the 4 meter, weighing 200 kg robot that appeared in the debut song 'Warrior' became 18 meters tall and weighed 700 kg. It surprised many that the spaceship costed over hundred million won or $88,300 just to make. Also with the exploding spaceships and cars in the background and the six members of B.A.P entering with the military look and tattoos on their bodies grabbed the attention and showed off charisma as space warriors. B.A.P released their album on the 27th also followed by their promotions on music shows.
Critical reception and theme
The group’s second album features 4 tracks in all, and like the “Warriors” that they are, the titles included suggest a strong and aggressive theme. B.A.P. will be covering genres from dance to rap and hip hop. The mini album musically follows a heavy rock and hip hop theme. Corynn Smith of MTV Korea wrote " “Power” does a great job of encompassing the mini-album’s theme in its entirety. With titles like “Fight For Freedom,” “What the Hell” and “All Lies,” all four songs follow the title track’s train of thought, which helps foster a fully cohesive concept." B.A.P's second album shows anger to the people who have a tyranny with strength and money, and has a meaning of giving strength to the weaker people. In this album B.A.P shows improvement in their music, performance and their visual since their album Warrior.
Chart performance
When Power was released onto iTunes, it went up to hit the iTunes Hip-hop Albums Chart at #2 in the US, #1 in Canada, #1 in New Zealand, #1 in Australia and #3 in Japan. The feat is all the more meaningful as the group managed to beat out global stars like Jay-Z and Kanye West on the chart despite the fact that B.A.P only performed the single two times on KBS′ Music Bank and MBC′s Music Core since the single′s release on April 27, 2012. Just like its predecessor, Power also debuted at number 10 on the Billboard World Albums Charts. Upon the release of the album, Power has sold out its initial batch of 30,000 copies. According to Hanteo, B.A.P. rose from 5th to 4th and finally 2nd, right after Taetiseo‘s ‘Twinkle‘, on May 2 on Hanteo’s live chart.
