Gwyneth Paltrow (b. September 28, 1972) is an American actress. Though she is the daughter of the late producer Bruce Paltrow, and the actress Blythe Danner, she studied Art History before committing herself to acting.

Born in Los Angeles, her debut film was Shout (1991) and she played in Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991) before starring in Se7en (1995) and dating her co-star Brad Pitt. Their relationship was much publicized, just like their break-up two years later. Her performance in Emma (1996) received its share of praise.

She was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress two years later for her performance in Shakespeare in Love (1998). Much attention was drawn to her at this event as a consequence of her bursting into tears during her acceptance speech.

Paltrow gave birth to her first child, Apple Blythe Alison Martin, on May 13 2004 with husband Chris Martin of the group Coldplay, whom she married in secret on 5 December, 2003. She was previously engaged to Brad Pitt and dated Ben Affleck while both she and Affleck worked on Shakespeare in Love.
