Brahmanbaria is one of the oldest municipality in Bangladesh, and was established in the year 1769. Brahmanbaria was declared a district headquarters in 1984. It is the capital of Brahmanbaria District, the largest and most popular administrative district headquarters of Bangladesh. Its municipality area has a population of 1,68,636 at the 2011 Census. It was part of greater Comilla City until 1984.

Brahmanbaria is located at 23°57′56″N 91°06′29″E / 23.96559°N 91.10799°E / 23.96559; 91.10799 the east-central region of Bangladesh.

Brahmanbaria has rich culture from early history. Celebration of Pohela Boishakh is popular here. Both Hindu and Muslim tradition influenced people of Brahmanbaria.

Celebration of Ekushey February on International Mother Language Day is popular here. People give flowers to Shahid Minar to respect who died in Bengali language movement.
