Girl's Day (Korean: 걸스데이) is a four-member South Korean girl group under the management of Dream Tea Entertainment, a subsidiary of KOSDAQ-listed agency Wellmade Star M. The group consists of four girls whose stage names are Sojin, Minah, Yura and Hyeri. Their biggest hits include: "Something", "Darling", "Twinkle Twinkle", "Expectation" and "Female President". Their fan-clubs include "Daisy" or, commonly stylised "Dai5y", which they endorse.
Career
Pre-debut
Dream Tea started Girl's Day promotions before their debut with the creation of an official blog, YouTube channel, and Twitter accounts for the group and each member. A forum made by fans was also recognized by the company as their official international forum. The group also released dance flash mobs before their debut on the commercial and entertainment districts of Seoul, gaining much interest.
2010: Debut, line-up change, "Nothing Lasts Forever"
On July 7, the group released their first music video for the song "Tilt My Head". Two days later their debut mini-album. Girl's Day Party 1, was released. On September 12, only two months after their debut, it was announced that members Ji Sun and Ji In had left the group to pursue their respective interests and Yura and Hyeri would be added to the group. On October 29, the new line-up released their first digital single album, Girl's Day Party 2, which includes the lead track, "Nothing Lasts Forever".
In December 2010, Girl's Day had their first TV show along with boy band U-KISS. The show, We Are Dating, is a spinoff of the hit TV show We Got Married, and paired three members of each group in the first season.
2011: "Twinkle Twinkle", Everyday, "Don't Flirt"
The single "Twinkle Twinkle" was released on March 16, 2011, and ranked number 1 on several online music charts. On May 17, Girl's Day had their first overseas concert in Taiwan with U-KISS and Super Junior M. The concert, I Love You Taiwan - We are friends Concert (사랑해(莎朗嘿) 台灣! We are friends 演唱會), was held by Korea Tourism Organization Taipei, Taiwan Office in Taipei International Convention Center.
Girl's Day's second mini-album, Everyday, was released on July 7. Besides the title track, "Hug Me Once", the album also contained a song called "Young Love", the group's previous digital singles "Nothing Lasts Forever" and "Twinkle Twinkle", and an instrumental version of "Hug Me Once". In September, the group released a single album titled Girls' Day Party #4 with "Don't Flirt" as the title track. Despite the lack of proper promotions, the song reached the number 1 spot in Bugs and had similarly high rankings on other music sites as well.
2012: Everyday 2, Jihae's withdrawal, "Don't Forget Me"
Girl's Day released their third mini album, Everyday 2, on April 17, 2012. It included the title track "Oh! My God", along with "Don't Flirt", from their previous single, and three new songs.
On October 17, Dream Tea revealed that Jihae had left the group due to personal reasons. The remaining four members of Girl's Day made their comeback on October 26 with the song "Don't Forget Me" from their fifth digital single, Girl's Day Party #5. The music video for the song featured a drama-like story with member Hyeri. On this same day, Girl's Day made their first performance of the song on Music Bank.
2013: Expectation, Female President
Girl's Day released the single "White Day" on February 20. On March 14, the album Expectation was released, coinciding with White Day. The music video of the title track, also titled "Expectation", stars member Yura. The song proved to be a commercial success and was awarded the Long-Run Song Award at the 3rd Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards. Girl's day re-released Expectation with "Female President" as the second title track on June 24. On July 7, the group was won first place on a music program for the first time since their debut. However, due to the postponement of the broadcast to respect the loss of lives from the Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crash, they did not have a chance to receive the trophy. "Female President" was also named one of the top 20 K-pop songs of 2013 by Billboard Korea.
On October 10, Girl's Day released the song "Let's Go", written and composed by Sojin, to encourage young adults to work hard for their upcoming final exams.
2014–present: Everyday 3, Everyday 4, I Miss You, Best Album
On January 3, 2014, the group's third mini-album, Everyday 3, was released together with their title track, "Something". The music video for "Something" reached one million views within a day. "Something" became their highest-charting single, peaking at number 2 on Billboard's Korea K-Pop Hot 100 and the Gaon Digital Chart, and number 1 on online music charts such as Bugs. It also ranked number 1 on the monthly Gaon Digital Chart (January 1–31) and stayed in the top 10 of the K-Pop Hot 100 for 8 weeks.
In July, the single "Darling" was released with the album Everyday 4. The song swept the number 1 spot on all nine major online charts including Melon, Mnet, Olleh Music and Naver Music. On October 15, Girl's Day released a ballad, "I Miss You", together with its smart card-type music album. On November 26, Girl's Day released the compilation album, Best Album, in Japan.
