This is a Misplaced Pages user talk page. This is not an encyclopedia article or the talk page for an encyclopedia article. If you find this page on any site other than Misplaced Pages, you are viewing a mirror site. Talk to me, Andy Mabbett
- If you post a message on this page, I'll reply on this page to avoid fragmenting the discussion.
- If I've left you a message on your talk page, I will be watching it, so please reply there rather than here (but do feel free to drop a copy of {{Talkback}} here).
- If appropriate, I will move discussion from here to the relevant article's talk page, so that anyone interested can join in.
- If you want to start a new discussion thread, please start it at the bottom of the page. Better still, use the "+" tab next to the "edit this page" tab, or the link at the foot of this section, either of which will do that automatically.
- Please do not make links from within section headings.
- Inaccessible HTML (coloured text, "small" tags", etc.) will be removed from this page on sight.
- Please sign and date your entries by inserting four tildes (~~~~) at the end.
- Start a new discussion.
Enjoy!

- We no longer log some common 404 errors in the exception log
- Monthly Tasks
- Hack on one of these.

Tech News: 2015-03
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent software changes
- Rotated PDF files in landscape format used to show too small. They will now display correctly. You may need to purge older files.

{{!}}
magic word instead of Template:!. Many wikis used the template to create a pipe (|
) in tables and templates. You can delete the template.
Software changes this week
- The new version of MediaWiki (1.25wmf14) has been on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since January 7. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis from January 13. It will be on all Wikipedias from January 14 (calendar).
- A bug in VisualEditor sometimes added a
☀
(Sun) character. This is now fixed. - The search and replace tool in VisualEditor is now much faster in long pages.
- The TemplateData editor now uses the same design as VisualEditor.
- The
thumb
option is now shown in your language in the help of the classic editor toolbar.
Future changes
- You can sign up to answer questions from designers. It will help them make editing easier.

Hello? I would very much like to know why you meddled with my WT:AT comment. If you gave an explanation somewhere, I missed it, and as far as I can tell, your edit did nothing useful or helpful. Please do correct me if I’m wrong. —174.141.182.82 (talk) 06:21, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

- Official Misplaced Pages app now uses Wikidata descriptions \o/ More to come!
- Usage tracking will likely be deployed on February 2 on Wikidata. This will not be user-visible. It just means that pages using data from arbitrary items get updated/purged when the data changes. Arbitrary access is being tested at Test Wikidata and testwiki:Test Wiki. An example is at testwiki:Kitten on arbitrary page.
- Assigning items on Mix'n'match will now make that change on Wikidata for you automatically
- Did you know?
- Newest properties: IGESPAR identifier, SIPA identifier, SkyscraperPage building id

- Deployed new sitelinks interface design to Wikidata. It's not done yet but we're getting there. Tweaks are in progress.

- Fixed some bugs that popped up after deployment
- Enabled usage tracking and arbitrary access on test.wikipedia.org and test.wikidata, and preparations for enabling it on Wikidata
- Collecting Query examples for the new query functionality
- Monthly Tasks
- Hack on one of these.
- Help fix these items which have been flagged using Wikidata - The Game.

Materials Horizons article proposed deletion
Hi Andy. Another user RandyKitty, who tends to patrol the journals section and is part of WP:NJournals wishes to delete the page related to the journal because they deem it to be Non-notable new journal. Not indexed in any selective databases, no independent sources. Does not meet WP:NJournals or WP:GNG.
Any advice on what to do to prevent this occuring? Thanks DrJWoolf (talk) 22:08, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- @DrJWoolf: I have no doubt a neutral editor will not allow it to happen. I have already added on independent source. You may have others to add. Be patient. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:52, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Andy, it seems despite my best effort that this will be deleted. It's due to be added to SCI in the near future so I'll probably create it again at that point. I've saved it for future use once this happens. DrJWoolf (talk) 13:11, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- @DrJWoolf: Yes, sadly, that may happen. But if it does, and once there is a SCI listing, don't recreate it; you can request "undeletion", and your work will be restored. Bear in mind that WP:NJournals is not a bnding policy, just a few editors' collective personal thoughts. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:44, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
- @Pigsonthewing: Thanks for the info on that, didn't realise that was possible. I'll probably try some other editing soon and hopefully that will be more successful. DrJWoolf (talk) 13:59, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

One person supporting dose not a consensus make
Thus restoring. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 22:46, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- One? You clearly missed the consensus as evaluated by the neutral admin, User:Plastikspork, who closed the TfD. You have, again, broken articles, as I have already pointed out to you. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:48, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- Feel free to remove unsupported parameters from the template in articles. We already have 5 opposing. If we include the neutral admin you have two supporting. That consensus was a joke. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 22:56, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
- Curious: which consensus? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:30, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Spread the sunshine by adding {{subst:User:Meaghan/Sunshine}} to someone else's talk page, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Disambiguation link notification for January 19
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Camelot Entertainment Group, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Irvine (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:12, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- You can download the new version of the Misplaced Pages app for Android. The new version shows lead images, better galleries and content from Wikidata. It also has many other new features.
- Programs and bots still can't read information about images on many wikis. You can see the list of wikis with the most files to fix. Misplaced Pages in Italian, Indonesian and Japanese language have the most files to fix. On the biggest wikis you should use bots. Bots can add information templates to groups of files. You can ask other tech users to help you.
Problems
- All JavaScript on Commons was broken for a few minutes on Tuesday. It was because of old code in the HotCat tool. The same problem happened on some Wikipedias on Wednesday. It is now fixed.

Removing banner from Harry Mark Petrakis article
On the article I wrote for Misplaced Pages on author Harry Mark Petrakis, you put a banner across the top. This is what it says:
This biographical article needs additional citations for verification. Please help by adding reliable sources. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately, especially if potentially libelous or harmful. (August 2014)
That banner was put up in August 2014, before the November 2014 publication of Petrakis's autobiography, "Song of My Life." When it came out, I returned to my article and added numerous citations to the autobiography to verify much biographical information. So will you look at my article again, and take the banner off now? Thank you. Lambrini Papangelis Lambrini Papangelis (talk) 21:02, 24 January 2015 (UTC)
