Italics and quotes

Hello Headhitter. Thank you for your efforts editing here at Misplaced Pages. There is one thing to be aware of - per the guidelines at WP:MOSALBUM album titles are in italics, however, song titles receive quote marks. I noticed that you are changing songs into italics on various articles so I wanted to make you aware of this distinction. If you will please go back and fix the pages that you have made this change on so far it would be a big help. Thanks for you time and happy editing. MarnetteD | Talk 18:02, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for alerting me, MarnetteD. I think usage is inconsistent, which is why I was mistaken. No time to amend in the next few days, I'm afraid, but will try to do so next week.Best wishes Headhitter (talk) 18:14, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
No worries about getting to it right away. You are right that usage varies. Sometimes that is because some articles were edited before the guideline came along and other times editors just aren't aware of the difference. Cheers and enjoy the upcoming weekend. Shoot to Kill

Thanks for all your copy-editing tweaks and improvements on The Promise.

I've recently been working up Shoot to Kill (1990 TV drama); but, as I may be too close to it to determine whether it is actually readable, I'd be very grateful if you could give it a look-over as well. Jheald (talk) 13:53, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Many many thanks for your clean-ups on STK. It's currently queued to get included on the WP front page "DYK" section; so it's brilliant of you that you put in so much time to give it a really thorough reading over for grammar and sense and ambiguity -- you made so many really good improvements (and caught so many blunders/mis-typings), I am really really grateful. (Unfortunately the DYK is scheduled for 1 o'clock in the morning UK time on Tuesday morning, which may not be ideal for a UK subject, but they do like to globally balance each set, so that's the way it goes).
Correction: 7pm tonight (Monday). So that's a bit better. Jheald (talk) 09:48, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
I have backed out a couple of things. I restored PK's words about "dead, disappeared or not allowed to talk to us", because that's what he said -- it's not as if we've had to adjust the quote to fit; and (at least to me) I think it runs better as originally said, even given a (very slight) violence to language. I've put the word "perhaps" back into Tom King's redefinition of the phrase "Shoot to Kill", because it seems to me he defines out either (i) the non-use of minimum force or (ii) the engineering of situations in which it was likely that paramilitaries would be killed rather than taken alive -- so it seems to me that there should be at least a certain qualification as to whether his re-definition should be accepted. One other change was that it was the constable who was on the stand at McCauley's trial, not McCauley himself. (McCauley himself kept to his right to remain silent).
But these are small re-edits. What I really came here to say was thank you, so much, for what you've put in, and for how much you have so valuably made improvements and clean-ups to the text. You're a star! Jheald (talk) 22:56, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
6400 hits over the two days -- not at all bad! Wins a place on the monthly page, a definite achievement for a text-only DYK. (And rather more successful than my immediately previous effort, trying to entice an audience of Americans at 1am UK time with the snippet that "Zenith Productions which produced Inspector Morse, was later also responsible for Ant & Dec's SMTV Live" (435 hits !) Newspaper names

Looks like I missed quite a to-and-fro on The Promise (!); but the article's probably the better for it.

Interested to note some of your edits on newspaper names. My consistent instinct, I think, is to italicise an initial "The" if there is one other word -- so The Times, The Independent, The Guardian; but not if there is more than one, so the Daily Telegraph, the Daily Express, the Sunday Telegraph, the Jewish Chronicle, etc; and I also suspect I tend to drop the "The" altogether for the latter cases when giving the title as part of a reference. Otherwise the newspaper names seem to me to become too unwieldy.

But I don't know whether that is widespread, or if it's just me. I see you've been spelling the names out in full every time, and that does also seem to be the practise of our articles on the various papers. I'll have to look up some time to see whether anyone has ever raised the question on any of the in-house manual of style pages. Jheald (talk) 20:47, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Helpful Hint

I notice that when you add a section to an article for the External links, you do it like this.

===External Links===

I have a hint when you do that it is called a subection of the section. When you do that on the Table of the Contents for the article it will show it as a subsection of the section of the article when you do that it is in an awkard place to find as most readers/contributers and others look for the external links at the bottom of the page. As a section like this;

==External Links==

That makes it a new section and it will show up on the Table of Contents (TOC) for the page as a section of the article making it easy to find the external links. Also another reason why not to do the external links as a subsection is becuase then people will think that the external links are for only that section. But if it is as a section by itself then they will know it is regarding the whole article. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 18:31, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing this out. And well done for the excellent work you're doing in tidying up the articles I've created! Headhitter (talk) 18:34, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
Your welcome. If you need any help or hints just leave a message on my talk page. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 18:47, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Another Helpful Hint

Instead of moving The Emperor of Ice-Cream to The Emperor of Ice-Cream (poem) you should make it a disambig page as such there is more than one of the The Emperor of Ice-Cream the novel and the poem. When you create a disambig page you list titles that are the same or similar article names it in turn helps readers find other articles with the same or similar names. Because then they can click on the article they want to go to becuase by moving The Emperor of Ice-Cream to The Emperor of Ice-Cream (poem) you have made a redirect which redirects to that page. But some poeple may type The Emperor of Ice-Cream to find the novel they will be redirected to the poem. So a disambig page is help so they can choose which one they want. I will go ahead and make it a disambig page for you. But I just thought I should let you know. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 18:59, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Writer's Barnstar
For your articles on Brian Moore's novels. INeverCry 01:50, 21 July 2012 (UTC)
A well-deserved barnstar - and I'm glad to be the first to give you one. Anyone who does good work on books and writers here has my appreciation.
I mostly read 19th century Russians and Brits, though I've read some of Maria Edgeworth, William Carleton, Charles Kickham, and the Banim Bros among Irish writers. I've only read a handfull of 20th century works by English-language writers, most of my "newer" reading being Soviet. I'll probably end up trying something of Moore's at some point. Richmond Park/Friends of Richmond Park merger

An explanation might have been helpful. Headhitter (talk) 08:01, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

Are you going to provide one? I see that you have archived my comment: I've repeated it above. Headhitter (talk) 23:38, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
The organisation is not notable enough for a standalone, but the information is non-trivial enough to be used in the parent article. Sorry, I hadn't noticed you'd asked earlier. SilkTork 23:42, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

The Unthanks with Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band

I believe it is a limitation based on the number of characters in the title of the album. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars 15:53, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

The title of the album has 51 characters (including spaces). There is a limit of 50 characters (or less, I'm not sure) to make the title of the article appear in italics like you want it to. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars 23:38, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. But even if there were fewer characters, I'm not sure how to make italics appear in an article heading. Headhitter (talk) 06:06, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Managed to italicise the title using DISPLAYTITLE (after a couple of aborted attempts), thanks GrahamHardy (talk) 15:12, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Brian Moore

Many thanks for your contributions to Brian Moore. I've added another short story to the bibliography. I also think we should add a more extensive "media adaptation" section as many of his novels - and even his short story The Sight - have been filmed. Moore himself wrote the script for that short film. He also appears to have co-written the film Il Giorno prima a.k.a. Control. - Fanthrillers (talk) 21:02, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Many thanks, Fanthrillers (talk): how interesting. It's good to know that there is renewed interest in Moore and his work. I hope you will add some more to the piece. Headhitter (talk) 08:10, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Re: Reverting vandalised page Lucy Ward (musician)

That user won't be persistent under that IP for a while, now; I've just blocked the IP address for a month, since the editor was on his/her final warning. You could have just gone to edit my revision of the page and typed "rv to last version by Graham87" in the edit summary. Or I could give you the rollback privilege, which would make it possible to revert editors like that with one click, if you like. However it's only to be used for obvious vandalism and a few other situations. Graham87 07:58, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

OK fair enough. I'll keep an eye on the page. Graham87 08:44, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
OK, I've given you the rollback permission. I'll let you keep an eye on Lucy Ward's page ... my watchlist is already big enough! Graham87 08:10, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Brian Moore

Thanks as always for your wonderful work on Brian Moore. His bibliography also lists several German titles of his books. Do we really need this? He has (obviously) no German relevance so I propose deleting these foreign language titles. Prefer to run it past you first. - Fantr (talk) 18:19, 30 March 2013 (UTC) (formerly fanthrillers)

Thank you for your courtesy and for your comments, Fantr (talk): much appreciated. I don't think I was responsible for adding the German titles but I'm inclined to leave them, simply because they link to entries in the German Misplaced Pages which seem to have much more information about the books in question than is included in the English language entries. Headhitter (talk) 20:32, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject assessment

Hi, I don't know if this was a mistake, but the article is nowhere near meeting the B-Class criteria. I have reassessed the article as start-class. If it was a mistake, you may like to reassess the importance you assigned at WikiProject Constructed languages. Thanks, C679 08:09, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, C679: yes it was a mistake – a cut and paste job! Thanks for alerting me – I'll amend it. Best wishes Headhitter (talk) 08:22, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Jenny Weleminsky: edits by Sheynhertz-Unbayg

I noticed that you edited said article after edits by a banned user and I just want to make sure that you are aware of the situation. You didn't revert him, so I'm not sure if you know of this particular case or not, which is why I'm asking. Ginsuloft (talk) 21:04, 22 September 2013 (UTC)

I'm not aware – could you bring me up to speed, please? Thanks. Headhitter (talk) 23:05, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Certainly. This user is an extremely disruptive sockpuppeteer who has been continuously hopping IPs and causing major damage to Misplaced Pages for years. I didn't revert him myself because you edited after him, but I'm just notifying that if you don't understand what the user did, or you're not sure if the edits were good or not, you should assume bad faith and revert as a first reaction per the banning policy. Any red links, categories, excessive tags or non-existent interwiki links are there to deliberately disrupt and confuse people. See WP:SU and Misplaced Pages:Long-term_abuse/Sheynhertz-Unbayg for more information. Ginsuloft (talk) 23:12, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for alerting me, Ginsuloft. Now that I know this, I'll have another look at the changes he made... Headhitter (talk) 23:21, 22 September 2013 (UTC)
As the admin who originally banned Sheynhertz-Unbayg, I hope I am allowed to interject here. I don't think he intends to disrupt or confuse. He is just very, very bad at communicating with other editors (and usually convinced that he is right and everybody else is wrong). That makes mass reverting him a little heart-breaking at times, but if he is allowed to do as he pleases, he tends to flood Misplaced Pages with thousands of expansion requests, tags, broken interwiki links and so on. None of these are big problems in themselves, but when there are thousands, it does get a little too much. In any case, if you are able to gain his trust and are able to communicate with him, please do. Maybe he can even be persuaded to do something more productive, or to keep to one account? If he plays along nicely, I certainly won't oppose unbanning him in the future... Happy editing, —Kusma (t·c) 09:19, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
That's helpful: thanks. Headhitter (talk) 09:41, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you! / and Please ban

Thank you for editing about Welleminsky, and about their family! :-). And, Please collaborate to block and ban User:Ginsuloft (and their collaborator User:Kusma, User:Elockid, User:Shoeofdeath User:Eynre, etc.). They are really crazed people, does not have any human-heart. And reverting, destroying many articles, useful edits, categories meaninglessly. They have to go to hospotal firstly!!

And, User:Sheynhertz-Unbayg was "banned" unfairly and injustly over about 8 years ago. Please collaborate long-term bashing and many insulting, bulbying againt him. :-) 58.93.185.130 (talk) 01:42, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:The Sea Cabinet.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:The Sea Cabinet.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Misplaced Pages may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 15:40, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Richmond

Hi, on the Richmond and Richmond Palace reverts you made, the inscription has a transcript if you go to the picture's page and read the description, and I cannot see what was incorrect in the caption's text(it's length can be sortened). Alternatively, should the caption have the text transcript instead (yet it would still be long)? It is really a pitty to not have this pic in the articles as not even most locals know about the particular plaque. Gts-tg (talk) 01:41, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

Gts-tg: There are many more items of historical interest in Richmond that most locals don't know about. If I felt so inclined, I could write a whole Misplaced Pages entry on the subject (but it would't be very encyclopaedic). Most of these items - some of them relating to Richmond Palace - are visually far more interesting than the Asgill House plaque, which is difficult to read and doesn't add anything that couldn't be covered in text elsewhere. As for your not seeing what was incorrect in the caption's text, I'm very concerned that after so many iterations (in about half a dozen articles) of inserting the caption you've failed to notice that you've spelt "Elizabeth" as "Elisabeth", described "Old Palace Lane" as "Old Palace Lane street" and confused "accession" with "ascension". We're all capable of making errors but as editors we should be constantly reviewing our own work as well as that of others. Headhitter (talk) 10:04, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for the time taken to offer feedback, I now understand what you mean; being a new editor I will be more careful in the future when adding content and take more time to check especially before reproducing it in related articles. Gts-tg (talk) 10:53, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Sandycombe Lodge

Updated DYK queryOn 27 December 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Sandycombe Lodge, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Sandycombe Lodge, a Grade II* listed house designed by and built for artist J. M. W. Turner in 1813, was added to English Heritage's Heritage at Risk Register in 2013? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sandycombe Lodge. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Richmond Park

Hi Headhitter! Any clarification regarding this revert? Please provide an edit summary. Faizan 15:24, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, Faizan: I had meant to include an edit summary. It's Poet's Corner, not Poets', as it's named after one poet – James Thomson. Ian Dury happens to be commemorated there too – by a bench – but, as local signposts demonstrate, that hasn't led to a change of title. Headhitter (talk) 15:54, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
Sure, no need of a Sorry. I am thankful to you. Faizan 16:59, 13 February 2014 (UTC)

Mudar Zahran

Hello - I made some small corrections on some of your edits to the article about Mudar Zahran. You cited a source which was not reliable, or credible, and it actually was redundant. The "Israel and Stuff" site is basically a site that steals content from other, more credible sites (when it's not posting outright lies about others). In short, it's not a reliable or credible source whatsoever. And the article you were citing was already referenced in the article about Mudar Zahran. Phillip Pasmanick's Israel and Stuff site merely copied/pasted (ie. stole/plagiarized) the original article from Arutz Sheva, which again was already being referenced here. 162.253.128.50 (talk) 02:08, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

Kew Gardens and the MSPB

I just wanted to let you know the the MSBP is the Millennium Seed Bank Partnership not Project. I think a change occured at some point that has lead to some confusion on some wiki articles but this inconsistancy must be fixed, not that I'm suggesting that you do it but if you see any refferences to it as a project can you help change them. You can see the correct title here: MSBP Page

You seem to be the most active user on Kew's pages so I thought I would mention it to you.

Jewish film festival and Tricycle Theatre

Hello, I am contacting you in the hope of asking you to modify the 2014 JFF entry about the Tricycle controversy. At the moment it contains one relatively 'partisan' source (J Film.org,) and one 'neutral onlooker' (Gdn), the editorial of which contains no background to the story, but only the judgement.

I am the person who protected the Tricycle page earlier this week (and that of the director), if you see the Trike talk page, I hope you will see that I have tried to be consistent (restoring the whole JFF section several times before it was protected and defending the Nick Cohen material when someone else characterised it as 'a blog' … … which it technically is).

I don't think the Trike page necessarily has the 'best' sources at present, but it does attempt to give the background to both sides of the dispute, I don't think the JFF page does.Pincrete (talk) 20:38, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for alerting me, Pincrete, and for taking the trouble to contact me on my Talk page. Headhitter (talk) 21:02, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

Headhitter, just a suggestion, but the strategy I adopted on the Indhu Rubasingham (the Trike director's) page was to insert a single sentence linking to the JFF section on the Tricycle page. I did this in order to confine editing to the Trike page and so that editors don't have to 'hop across' three pages (though all edits since the protection have been well-intentioned). Unfortunately, another editor broke the link to the section, by renaming it 'JFF funding', rather than 'JFF controversy', but i can fix that.
As this 'plays out', we are likely to want to re-write the Trike (and JFF) pages, but for the time being thankyou for your edit.Pincrete (talk) 12:32, 10 August 2014 (UTC)

Headhitterjust a thought, I noticed that are a Londoner. The Tricycle page badly needs some up to date TLC. My involvement with the page was mainly to put in some of the 'Early history', because I long ago worked there … but I no longer live in the UK, let alone NW6.

As I said just a thought and I hope this isn't construed as WP:canvassing … … … btw thankyou for your admirable co-operation, if only the trike and the JFF could have got on as easily ! . Take care. Pincrete (talk) 16:52, 17 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you, Pincrete. I've done some updating of the Tricycle Theatre page. What do you think? Best wishes Headhitter (talk) 20:53, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
It's MUCH better organised and looks GOOD … tiny details :-
I added a few (pre-existing) refs, referencing the Wakefield Trike Co para to the Chubb/Barrie/V+A … also early productions para to same refs.
I removed your ref to 2006+ productions (V+A) as I think archive only goes up to circa 1996 (that para has been there unreferenced since before I arrived), but I don't think Misplaced Pages gets too upset about production lists if the claims are not outrageous. THANKYOU, you've done them a service.Pincrete (talk) 22:01, 17 September 2014 (UTC)
