Power Rangers: Mystic Force (often abbreviated as PRMF and simply called Mystic Force) is the fourteenth incarnation of the Power Rangers television series. It officially premiered February 20, 2006 on Toon Disney, February 25, 2006 on ABC Family, March 11, 2006 on ABC Kids, and June 4, 2006 on The Family Network in Canada. The show is based on the Super Sentai series, Mahō Sentai Magiranger (Magical Squadron Magic Ranger).

In Fall 2006, Power Rangers will go to 1 hour on ABC Kids due to ABC Family's announcement that it will be dropping the Jetix programming block.

Synopsis

Template:Spoiler Twenty years ago, in a dimension filled with magic parallel to our own, the forces of darkness came into power and a war called the Great Battle began. An army of the undead led by a powerful warrior swarmed into the land with their sights set on the taking over the magical realm, the human realm, and beyond, but they would have to combat a legion of brave and powerful wizards. The Mystic Wizards battled valiantly against insurmountable odds, until they drove the evil back from the edge of the human world. The strongest wizard of all, Leanbow, cast a spell and sent the evil warriors into the Underworld, having the Gatekeeper seal the gates for all eternity. The forces of truth successfully thwarted the forces of darkness' attempt to take the surface world, but they lost Leanbow, as he made sure the evil forces did not escape by sealing himself on their side of the Gate. The human world would never know of the Great Battle, nor of the sacrifices made to spare their lives from destruction. Even to this day they live in peace and tranquility, totally unaware of what is about to awaken.

The city of Briarwood was struck by an earthquake, and this earthquake was enough to break the seal just enough for evil to begin its attempt to invade the human world, again. The sorceress Udonna, realizing that the forces of evil had returned, sought out the warriors of legend, five teens living in Briarwood, to become the Power Rangers alongside her. While one of the teens was reluctant at first, he realized his destiny and joined the others in the fight against the Master of the Underworld Octomus and his numerous minions. When Udonna loses her Ranger powers to the mysterious Koragg, it is up to Nick, Chip, Madison, Vida, and Xander to save the Earth on their own. They are assisted by Udonna's bumbling apprentice Clare, and eventually Jenji the Genie and his master Daggeron, the Solaris Knight.

Using their powerful magic and incredible martial arts skills, the Mystic Force Power Rangers must rely on teamwork to save the day.

  • Niella: Former Gatekeeper to the Underworld, Niella is Udonna's sister and Clare's mother. She died sealing the Gate to the Underworld.
  • Jenji: A Mystical cat genie and assistant to Daggeron.
  • Fire Heart: This dragon is said by the Ancients to have great power.
  • Toby: The Teens' boss at the Rock-Porium.
  • Phineas: A troblin (half-troll, half-goblin) who roams the woods.
  • Ancient Titans: Supernatural beings who the Rangers draw their powers from.
  • Leanbow: The Red Mystic Wizard and Udonna's husband that was transformed into Koragg by dark magic (Portrayed by Chris Graham).
  • Mystic Wizards: Leanbow's allies from the Great Battle.
  • Tribunal of Magic: The governing organization of all magic. The Power Rangers go to to try and reverse the wish that changed history and took away their magic in Dark Wish. The Tribunal of Magic also granted the Legend Mode onto the Power Rangers.
  • Leelee: A snobby Briarwood teen and Necrolai's daughter. She has abandoned the side of darkness and is currently working at Rock Porium (Portrayed by Holly Shanahan).

Villains

Main article: Villains in Power Rangers: Mystic Force
  • Octomus: The Supreme Master of the Underworld.
  • Morticon: An undead general who led Octomus' army before being destroyed by the Titan Megazord (Voiced by Andrew Robertt).
  • Necrolai: Dark mistress of the Underworld, Queen of the Vampires and mother of Leelee. (Voiced by Donogh Rees).
  • Koragg the Knight Wolf: A powerful sorcerer and master swordsman who is loyal to no one but Octomus. He was recently revealed to be Leanbow, Udonna's husband (Voiced by Geoff Dolan).
  • Imperious: Was once an ally and friend of the Mystic Wizards called Calindor, but has now taken Morticon's place as leader of the Underworld. He plotted to overthrow Octomus, but was destroyed before he had a chance (Calindor portrayed by Will Hall, Imperious voiced by Stuart Devenie).
  • The Ten Terrors: The most powerful servents of Octomus.
    • Magma: A fiery creature, the first of the Ten Terrors to attack. Destroyed by Sculpin after he failed to destroy the Rangers (Voiced by Greg Smith).
    • Oculous: A red eyed cyclops with a sniper rifle (Voiced by Andrew Laing).
    • Serpentina: A turquoise snakelike monster with a mirror-shield for a weapon (Voiced by Sally Stockwell).
    • Megahorn: A dragon type creature with bonelike armor (Voiced by Dallas Barnett).
    • Hekatoid: A gluttonous, green hammer-wielding monster (Voiced by Charlie McDermott).
    • Gekkor: A spear wielding wyvern creature (Voiced by Mark Ferguson).
    • Matoombo: A powerful gray knight with no visible eyes (Voiced by Cameron Rhodes).
    • Itassis: A sphinx goddess with an arm-mounted bazooka (Voiced by Josephine Davison).
    • Black Lance: A black knight monster with a shield and lance (Voiced by Derek Judge).
    • Sculpin: The red fishlike leader of the Ten Terrors with a trident for a weapon (Voiced by Peter Daube).

Arsenal

  • Xenotome: The Xenotome is an ancient, mystical book and the Rangers' main source of magical information. Whenever the Rangers unlock a Spell Code, the Xenotome will explain the spell's function. The Xenotome is a fountain of untapped magical knowledge, hence it is called "The Book of The Unknown".
  • Snow Staff: Udonna's own variant Mystic Staff and her personal weapon while morphed. It's somewhat like the Red Ranger's Sword in length, but its "blade" is not used as such. It is capable of releasing blasts of wind cold enough to freeze an opponent in place. When Koragg defeated Udonna in battle, he stole the Snow Staff and took it to the Pit where it is currently kept. Koragg once used the Staff to somehow contact Nick by way of magical telepathy, creating a two-way telepathic connection which they can both use without the Snow Staff. When Udonna was captured and held captive in the Underworld, she was able to channel herself in Ranger form through the Snow Staff and assist the other Rangers in defeating Morticon.
  • Mystic Morphers: These cell phones, which morph the Rangers with the call of "Magical Source, Mystic Force!", can perform spells via various digit-based codes that are entered into the keypad. They were originally magic wands, but Udonna changed them to suit the Rangers' liking. (See Spells Section).
  • Magi Staffs: A compact staff carried by each of the five Rangers, with multiple functions.
    • Axe Mode: An axe that the Green Ranger uses. It is capable of producing shockwaves and fissures when it strikes the ground.
    • Crossbow Mode: A crossbow with which the Yellow Ranger can fire bolts of electricity. It was once used to fire the Dawn Crystal, a yellow arrow-shaped crystal that (temporarliy) destroyed Necrolai.
    • Sword/Striker Mode: A sword brandished by the Red Ranger. The blade can be engulfed in flame at his will. Nick has recently been referring to his sword as a Striker, which is a possible error on behalf of the writers.
    • Wand Mode: The Magi Staff in its original form. In this mode, the Blue Ranger can use it to channel her elemental water powers, the Pink Ranger can use her elemental wind powers, shapeshifting abilities, or a combination of the two, the Red Ranger can conjure fire, the Green Ranger can use it to summon powerful vines to restrain his enemies, and the Yellow Ranger can summon lightning power. The Magi Staff is also capable of doing a Speed Spell Attack where all the Rangers gain more speed than any of their vehicles.
  • Mystic Racers: Five large futuristic flight vehicles used for transportation that are actually old wooden brooms and revert to this form when not in use. They are kept on special revolving walls in Rootcore.
  • Mystic Speeder: An extremely powerful motorcycle used by the Red Ranger, capable of travelling at high speeds. Its offensive abilities include launching a large front-mounted projectile and laser blasts.
  • Mystic Force Fighters: Large red boxing gloves capable of increasing the wearer's strength, speed and stamina. They can be used by the five core Rangers, but they were originally activated by Xander when he fought Skullington. Xander finished off Skullington by leaping incredibly high into the air and landing on his fist, causing a fissure. Nick later used them against Koragg, channeling his elemental powers and setting himself ablaze before launching himself at Koragg from within a flaming tornado in a move he called the "Spin Attack". Chip also used them in Soul Specter against Spydex.
  • Solar Cell Morpher: Daggeron's morphing device is a cellphone-ticket puncher hybrid. Daggeron can also use the Solar Cell Morpher in conjunction with a variety of magical cards in order to cast various spells.
  • Solaris Laser Lamp: Jenji's home can be converted into Daggeron's personal blaster weapon. It can fire powerful lasers and can perform the Jenji Shining Attack to finish off opponents. In the episode Ranger Down, Madison used the Solaris Laser Lamp to destroy Screamer to restore the people that had been turned into feathers, including the other four Rangers.
  • Solaris Carpet: This enchanted carpet serves as the Solaris Knight's personal transport.
  • Mystic Muscles: After learning his lesson in Inner Strength, Xander received a new spell code that granted him exaggerated muscles, with which he was able to defeat the Behemoth easily.
  • Legend Mode: A power-up for the five core Rangers given to them by the Tribunal of Magic that transforms the Rangers into the Legend Warriors with a call of "Legendary Source, Mystic Force!". Included are extra armor and the Mystic Lion Staffs. The Rangers lose their capes in this form and also gain small helmet attachments modelled after their visors. Nick and Chip have wings protruding from the sides of their helmets. Madison has a fin on the top of her helmet, Vida has wing-like ridges and Xander has horns that appear to sweep backwards.
    • Mystic Lion Staffs: These staffs are carried by the Rangers in Legend Mode. The end of each staff features a stylized lion head, with a rotary phone built into the mane. These staffs grant the Rangers the ability to cast even more powerful spells and transform into the Legendary Titans.
  • Ancient Mystic Mode: A form used by Clare, Niella (when she was alive), Calindor (before he became Imperious), Daggeron and Leanbow.
  • Mystic Battlizer: The Red Mystic Ranger's Battlizer allows for a great power boost. Nick gets covered in blue knight-like armor, gains wings, wields two Battle Staffs, and carries an activation device that looks like a red Solar Cell Morpher, the Fierce Dragon Morpher. According to materials in Bandai's American toy line, the Battlized Red Ranger is either the Red Dragon Fire Ranger or the Red Dragon Force Ranger.

Spells

Main article: Spells in Power Rangers: Mystic Force

Throughout the season the Mystic Rangers, Underworld Villains, and Mystical Allies use these magical spells for various purposes. Spells are divided into three groups in this series:

  • Ranger Spells: Spells that the Mystic Force Rangers use.
  • Dark Spells: Dark Spells that the Underworld Villains use.
  • Neutral Spells: Spells that are neutral and can do various purposes.

Zords

Main article: Zords in Power Rangers: Mystic Force

Several of the Zords in Power Rangers: Mystic Force are actually the Mystic Rangers themselves, transformed into mythological creatures. The only exception to this is the Solar Streak Megazord, which is actually a mechanical train-based Megazord piloted by the Solaris Knight. When the Rangers form their own Megazords, they appear in a cockpit, no longer part of their transformed state.

  • Titan Megazord (combination of the Five Mystic Titans)
    • Mystic Phoenix (Nick/Red)
    • Mystic Dragon (combination of Mystic Garuda, Mermaid, Sprite, and Minotaur)
      • Mystic Garuda (Chip/Yellow)
      • Mystic Mermaid (Madison/Blue)
      • Mystic Sprite (Vida/Pink)
      • Mystic Minotaur (Xander/Green)
  • Catastros (Koragg the Knight Wolf)
    • Knight Wolf Centaur (combination of Koragg and Catastros)
    • Centaurus Wolf Megazord (final combination of Koragg and Catastros)
    • Centaurus Phoenix Megazord (combination of Mystic Phoenix and Catastros)
  • Solar Train (Daggeron/Solaris Knight)
    • Solar Streak Megazord (Solar Train, Fighting Mode)
  • Manticore Megazord (combination of Mystic Firebird and Lion)
    • Mystic Firebird (Nick/Red)
    • Mystic Lion (Chip/Yellow, Madison/Blue, Vida/Pink, Xander/Green)
  • Steedergon (Nick/Red)
    • Steedergon Fury Megazord (combination of Mystic Phoenix and Steedergon)

Trivia

  • This is the first season since Power Rangers: Zeo where at least one main villain is not on the opening credits.
  • Kelson Henderson (Boom in Power Rangers: S.P.D.) has a role as Phineas in this series (this time in costume), making Mystic Force the 3rd consecutive Power Ranger series he has appeared in.
  • Antonia Prebble (Krista in Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, and the voice of S.P.D. Nova Ranger in Power Rangers: S.P.D.) has a role in Mystic Force as Clare, which makes this her 3rd consecutive appearance in some form in a Power Rangers series.
  • John Tui will also be returning for his second consecutive Power Rangers series appearance as Daggeron, the Solaris Knight. He portrayed Commander Anubis "Doggie" Cruger and Sergeant Silverback in the previous series, Power Rangers: S.P.D., which will make him the first actor to portray two different characters who are Rangers.
  • Barnie Duncan returns for a second consecutive season, this time free of make-up, as Toby, the Rangers' boss at the Rock Porium. He recently reprised his role as Piggy, from Power Rangers: SPD for a cameo appearance in the episode Ranger Down. It also reveals that Piggy was on Earth way before S.P.D. arrived.
  • This is the first Power Rangers team to feature capes as part of all of their suits. The Magna Defender from Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy had a cape, but his status as a Ranger is disputed.
  • This will be the first full "down under" cast since the move to New Zealand (composed of 4 Australians and 2 New Zealanders for the Ranger team).
  • This will be the second Power Rangers team not to feature an African American Ranger; the first was Power Rangers: Ninja Storm.
  • Madison and Vida are sisters, making Mystic Force the 1st season with two sisters as Power Rangers, and the 4th in terms of siblings. First being Leo & Mike Corbett (Lost Galaxy), followed by Dana & Ryan Mitchell (Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue), and Hunter & Blake Bradley (Ninja Storm, although they were adopted brothers, not blood-related). Andros and Karone were also siblings, but they did not serve on the same Ranger teams.
  • The Mystic Force Power Rangers will be the second Ranger team to have more than six Rangers, the first being S.P.D. which ended with 14 overall (the five main B-Squad Rangers, Shadow Ranger, Omega Ranger, Kat Ranger for only one appearance, the five evil A-Squad Rangers, and Nova Ranger in the finale). It is disputed whether the Aquitian Rangers from Mighty Morphin Alien Rangers (a miniseries bridging the gap between Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and Power Rangers: Zeo) should be counted towards the team's number, considering they only had a few cameo appearances and were their own team, and did not fight for Zordon.
  • Mystic Force currently holds the record for the shortest full season made with only 32 episodes scheduled to air; 32 total episodes.
  • This will be the first time since Power Rangers: Turbo that a Ranger with a non-American accent has been a member of the core team. During the first half of that series, Katherine Hillard (played by Catherine Sutherland who had previously been the second Pink Power Ranger, the second Pink Ninja Ranger, Zeo Ranger I — Pink, and the first Pink Turbo Ranger) was from Australia and had a noticeable Australian accent, just like Sutherland. Xander Bly, the Green Mystic Ranger, is the only member of the Mystic Force cast to use his natural Australian accent as that is where his character is from (the other Ranger actors, despite hailing from Australia and New Zealand, put on American accents for the series). The actor who plays Xander, Richard Brancatisano, is from New South Wales, Australia. John Tui has also decided to use his accent as well (however slight it may be).
  • This will be the final series to air on ABC Family, which will drop the Jetix block in fall 2006.
  • This will be the first time the five core Rangers actually become their Zords (through use of magic) as opposed to just piloting them.
  • This is the first Power Rangers series to start with the White Ranger being the first Ranger established. This is also the first Power Rangers series to premiere six Rangers at the beginning, although after the first episode the White Ranger has lost her powers.
  • This is the first series to have three female Power Rangers at the beginning of the season.
  • Peta Rutter, who portrays Udonna, is the oldest person, so far, to play the role of a Power Ranger. All Rangers are normally played by teens or adults no older than 25, with the exception of Jim Gray, who was 38 when he played Tideus in Alien Rangers, Jason David Frank, who was 30 when he reprised his role as Tommy Oliver for a fourth time in Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, and Jason Chan, who was 31 when he first took on the role of Cameron Watanabe in Ninja Storm.
  • Firass Dirani, potraying Nick Russell the Red Mystic Ranger, makes it the first time a Ranger was played by an actor of Middle Eastern descent. He is an Australian of Lebanese descent.
  • Due to the fact that in Japanese children's programming, guidelines are much more lenient than those of the United States, Necrolai's counterpart in Magiranger, Vancuria, was able to have a rather revealing costume with realistic breasts. Due to this, Disney never shows close-up, full body images of Necrolai, and instead zooms in on her face and avoids showing her chest area as many times as possible. In scenes with Necrolai filmed for the American audience, the revealing costume is replaced with a full bodysuit.
  • This is the second season to have a train as a Megazord, the first being Lightspeed Rescue.
  • This is the first series to employ the use of cards with a morpher: Daggeron's Solar Cell Morpher.
  • Mystic Force features one of the largest villains/monsters in Power Rangers history. In the episode Scaredy Cat, Imperious grows to become more than one hundred times larger than the Titan Megazord. The other villain who rivals Imperious in this size is Dark Specter from In Space.
  • Solaris Knight is the second character whose status as a Power Ranger is questioned. He, along with Mike Corbett as the Magna Defender do not have "Ranger" as part of their title, but Morph and fight alongside the Rangers. However, the Solaris Knight's status as a Ranger is closer than the Magna Defender's. The Phantom Ranger's status is also questioned because while he had "Ranger" as part of his title, he has no alternate un-Morphed form.
  • With Nick having been revealed as Bowen and as the son of Udonna and Leanbow, this is the first Power Rangers series to feature a married couple and their child on the same Ranger team together. This would also be the second time that a Ranger's father is on the evil side, following Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, where Trent's adopted father Anton Mercer was Mesogog. These occurrences are comparable to Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in the Star Wars saga (however this isn't the first time a Ranger was blood related to a villain).
