A web directory is a listing of websites organized in a hierarchy of categories.
- Answers.com - Provides a portal to more specialized "directories" (including Misplaced Pages) depending on the category of information.
- Best of the Web Directory - Lists content rich, well designed websites categorized both by topic and by region.
- Geniusfind - categorizes topic-specific search engines and databases.
- Gimpsy - A directory organized by activity.
- GoGuides - One of a couple of directories that supplanted Disney's Go.com directory after it closed.
- JoeAnt - A community of editors from the now-defunct Go.com volunteer edited directory.
- LookSmart - Operates a mainly commercial directory, with some free content from its Zeal community program for non-commercial entries.
- Open Directory Project (aka DMoz or ODP) - The largest directory of the web. Its open content is mirrored at many sites, including the Google Directory.
- Skaffe - Another directory formed by former Go.com editors.
- VFunk - Online directory that specializes in listing and categorizing global dance music & urban lifestyle listings.
- World Wide Web Virtual Library (VLIB) - The oldest directory of the Web.
- UK Pages - Regional links to local UK business websites via town or city.
- Yahoo! Directory - Their directory was the first service Yahoo! offered.
- Zeal - Volunteer-built web directory, first appearing in 1999, and then acquired by LookSmart in October 2000. Looksmart shut down the Zeal website in 2006.
