A standard rank structure is used throughout the police force, although some ranks may be unique to specific organisations. These ranks are denoted where applicable in the following list, which lists them in ascending seniority:

Police National Service officers are known as "Special Constables," and hence have "SC/" as a prefix to their ranks. Hence, a Police National Service Corporal will have his rank denoted as "SC/CPL"

Trainee Officers have a "T/" prefixed to their ranks.

Volunteer Special Constabulary Officers are distinguished by a "(V)" indicated as a surfix, hence writtern as "CPL (V)" for example.

The ] and ] ranks have been removed from the regular police force, but are still in existance in the Gurkha Contingent.

The Republic of Singapore Police Force, as the main agency tasked with maintaining law and order in the city-state, has consistantly managed to keep Singapore's crime rate low.

Manpower

As at 31st of March 2004, the total strength of the force stands at 36,786, borken down into the following categories:

  • 8035 Regular Officers
  • 1238 Civilian Officers
  • 4104 Police National Service full-time (PNSF)
  • 22311 Police National Servicemen (PNSmen)
  • 1098 Volunteer Special Constabulary (VSC) Officers
