*I also refer to the aircraft by its Chinese J7 designation since it means it links back to the J7 page - the F7 designation is what the export model is called, but for some reason it won't link back to the J7/F7 page. *I also refer to the aircraft by its Chinese J7 designation since it means it links back to the J7 page - the F7 designation is what the export model is called, but for some reason it won't link back to the J7/F7 page. — Preceding ] comment added by ] (]) 17:48, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Citation Flags

Added citation flags for a number of statements that look quite dubious. Elalan 14:17, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

The fact that it is a major role has to be stated so by an expert in the field. I think that statements needs to be qualified. Elalan 03:40, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
Pal, I think the common sense is getting so uncommon nowadays. Do you think the Air Force will fly kites while civil war going on??? ♪♫ĽąĦĩŘǔ_Қ♫♪ 03:57, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
You still haven't answered any of my questions. How is it that the airforce has a major role to play in the civil war ? You may bring up Defence ministry statements but that is not reliable on this matter. To know it plays a major roles implies it significantly affects something ? This isn't the US airforce we are talking about here. As it stands right know what is being mentioned is an opinion. The airforce, by sheer size can't be argued to be significant. So how does it have a major role to play ? How can you measure that ? This needs to be clarified at very least or its original research. Elalan 05:43, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
LOL...I think Elalan seems to have a problem with the SL army, navy and airforce. You can edit all you want in here man but the fact is that you guys still cant achieve your dream, so you can get back to ur homeland.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.236.167.92 (talk)

Ranked Highly?

I think the comment that the Sri Lankan Airforce is quiet biased. In a fact, by technology and size it is far behind 1st World Nations. Maybe the introduction should be re-worded to disinclude this unsourced infomation?

Looks like a totally incompetent bunch. Huge losses, minimal successes. They don't even have a true jetfighter with an on-board radar. Kfir, MiG-27 and their chinese MiG-21F copycats only have fixed radio distance meters, which are worth next to nil in actual combat. They are repeatedly unable to shoot down the rebels' Zlin 143 elementary-trainers-converted-to-light-bombers, even though those planes barely do 250 km/h. Probably even a run-of-the-mill arab air force would rank higher in actual combat value and those guys aren't Einsteins either. 82.131.210.162 (talk) 10:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Why would Sri lanka even need a powerful air force, none of its immediate neighbours are bad. The money is better spent on education and development. Daiyusha (talk) 08:32, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Attack aircraft fix.

The MiG-27 helicopter does not exist and should be removed. Technically one special command version and one example was built, but it does not serve outside of Russia. The MiG-24 is the export version of the MiG-23, I added the link. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DSkauai (talkcontribs) 02:48, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Fighter inventory

 • FOX52 will you mind actually reading the references for the amended fighter fleet deposition. You apparently have missed multiple references from 2017:
 • 1.)A Sri Lankan newspaper which has stated all the Migs and Kfirs are out of service which, and that a one single J7BS and J7GS have been returned from China after overhaul. This is after the date of the 66th anniversary airshow.
 • 2.)The SLAF which have stated they they have overhauled two more J7 fighters in the new overhaul facility at Katunayake, after receipt of the ones from China- you can see clearly one is an FT7 as it has the same shape and the second is clearly a J7GS as it does not have a straight wing. The J7BS aircraft received in 1991 had the same wing as the Mig21. The later versions were changed to a double delta wing.
 • 3.)The Youtube video is of the Sri Lankan air force anniversary celebrations this year, and its not the only video of the fly past. There are two F7GS fighters which again if you looked, have double delta wings.
 • 4.)The "reference" you link to is not view-able by anyone, and is based on old information. If its the Flight International one, they have in the past not really been up to date with many fleets either.
 • I am not going to bother changing it back if you do ignore it,but even you should realise if the SLAF is flying a pair of J7 fighters at an air show this year, that simply saying only one Kfir is the only fighter they have is inaccurate. That indicates they have had two J7GS aircraft in an operational condition for the airshow, received two more J7GS aircraft after overhaul, one J7BS and a single FT7 trainer.

Here are the links:

 • The SLAF event states the F7GS/J7GS is in the display this year:
 • There is no Kfir stated and it backs up what The Island newspaper says, and the SLAF website backs up the Youtube video. It also makes sense since the SLAF has started a maintenance facility to overhaul the J7/F7 in Sri Lanka with CATIC who list the J7/F7 as an export product.
