Cumberland continued growing and in 1936 the School Board purchased about seven acres of land on Greenway Avenue, and the construction of Fort Hill was begun. Adjacent to the school an athletic field and stadium were erected.

The first students entered the impressive edifice, flanked by its large auditorium and gymnasium, in September 1936. Through willingness and cooperation, clubs were organized. The student Council machinery was set up and put into active operation. The name "Sentinel" was suggested for the school paper by Mary Davis. The yearbook, "The Saber" - named by Fred Roth - was published in 1937. A few changes have been made at Fort Hill in the past two decades.
