GoRuck (official styled GoRuck) is a sporting equipment manufacturing company and an event organizing company.

Equipment manufacturing

The company was founded by Jason McCarthy to develop rucksacks usable by both the military and civilians. McCarthy is a former Green Beret and the company employs about 150 veterans of the United States Special Forces and Special Operations.

Event organization

GoRuck Challenges are a way to field test the equipment in a memorable and convincing way similar to Obstacle Racing in addition to being based on Special Forces lessons and are meant to be teambuilding events with varying degrees of difficulty. To Ruck is defined as "To move with purpose while transporting gear". Depending on what level of event that is signed up for determines how far/long the event goes. After a fatality during an event, the company instituted a policy that every participant must have a high visibility reflective band on their rucksack so as to reduce the possibility of being struck by a car while in the dark. In addition to their three standard difficulties (Light, Challenge, Heavy) they offer special events. Events have been previously mistaken for protest matches on multiple occasions, but after the popularity explosion of Pokemon Go, Niantic and GORUCK partnered with the National Park Service to give back to the communities and parks by launching a series of events to give back to the communities and parks where many events happen

On 7 December 2018, the GoRuck team marched 20 miles in honor of the people killed on the Attack on Pearl Harbor by the surprise military strike by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. The next day, the GoRuck team marched a further 10 miles.
