Red crossThis is a failed proposal.
Consensus for its implementation was not established within a reasonable period of time. If you want to revive discussion, please use the talk page or initiate a thread at the village pump.
This page is currently inactive and is retained for historical reference.
Either the page is no longer relevant or consensus on its purpose has become unclear. To revive discussion, seek broader input via a forum such as the village pump.
ShortcutThis page is intended to get attention quickly when dealing with personal attacks. It is not intended to serve as a form of mediation or a type of RFC. Only Personal attacks are dealt with on this page, on their own merits in accordance with Misplaced Pages's No Personal Attacks policy

For editors who want a personal attack situation reviewed:

    1. Consider that in most cases, ignoring the attack is better than requesting sanction against the attacker. Do not report people if you are likewise guilty of hostility towards them.
    2. Make sure the user has actually commited a personal attack. (Please note that "personal attacks" are defined only under the WP:NPA policy. If a statement is not considered a personal attack under the intended spirit of this policy, it does not belong here.)
    3. The editor must have been warned earlier. The {{npa2}}, and {{npa3}} templates may be appropriate for new users; for long-term editors, it's preferable to write something rather than using a standard template. Reports of unwarned editors may be removed.
    4. If the behavior hasn't stopped, add the following header to the New Reports section of this page in the following format:
==={{User|NAME OF USER}}=== replacing NAME OF USER with the user name or IP address concerned, with a brief reason for listing below. Be sure to include diffs.
    5. If an editor removes the IP or username and doesn't handle the matter to your satisfaction, take it to the editor's talk page or the administrators' noticeboard, but do not re-list the user here.
    6. NB - Due to misunderstanding of these instructions and/or mis-use of this process, comments not in strict adhereance to these instructions WILL be removed. This page deals only with personal attacks under the policy WP:NPA. Reports deemed to be inappropriate for this page are liable to be moved to an appropriate venue where one exists.

For those reported on this page:

    1. A reviewer or an administrator will review each report on this page. In dealing with the report, the contribution history of the reported user shall be checked along with the diffs provided in the report. Where no personal attack is evident, then no action will be taken - however, should an administrator see that another seperate issue is evident, appropriate action or advice for that issue may be taken/given at his or her discretion and in line with wiki policy.
    2. Reports on this page stand on their own merits in accordance with Misplaced Pages's no personal attacks policy. As such, disputes and discussions over reports are not suitable for this page except for such comments left by admins or reviewers describing their actions and/or findings. If you notice your account reported at this page, please trust that the administrators and reviewers dealing with reports will deal with it in an even-handed and fair manner on the basis of policy alone. If you feel strongly that another "side to the story", issue, or another piece of information is missing from a report please refrain from posting here, and instead leave your comment on your talk page under the title NPA Report or another other clear and related title. The reviewing party will see this message and take it into account where applicable.

    For users handling assistance requests:

    1. For each of the users linked here, open their contributions and check for personal attacks. Also check if the users have been sufficiently warned for the current personal attack and whether they've continued to commit personal attacks after being warned.
    2. Note that there is an important difference between a user who makes many good contributions and a few personal attacks, and a user whose last edits are (nearly) all personal attacks or other conflict.
    3. Do nothing, warn them again, or, if you are an adminstrator, block the user in question as you think is required. Explain things carefully to the user who listed the attacker if you feel there's been a misunderstanding.
    4. Move the report to the Open Reports section and give an update to the status of the report.
    5. Delete old reports that have been dealt with.

Please consider adding this page to your watchlist to make life easier for non-administrator RC-patrollers.

    New reports

    Arrow740 (talk · contribs)

User:Arrow740 has been engaging in persistent and aggressive personal attacks against my self to the dismissal of any request to stop. in fact it seems the more he is made aware of his violations the more frequent he is in committing them. the attacks have recurred over a period of just over a month.

here are a small sample of diffs of this user and his general incivility:

    • unfortunately, the hostile comments continued:
    • after which, he made these comments:
    • i did nothing in response to this, and i decided that it would be appropriate to stop engaging with this editor for a little while by abstaining from participation in that article. since then, he has continued to provoke me and make personal attacks. in response to this, i warned him that he would be reported if he continued in this manner (npa3).

and most recently, a personal attack against me, another of which was on my talk page

if someone could please step in and deal with this bombardment of personal attacks which i am now finding intolerable, then i would be grateful. thank you. ITAQALLAH 16:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

If you had reported this last month when the editor was making clear personal attacks then I would have intervened. The recent diffs are topical. The statement about your religion looks to me about like it merits a level 2 warning for incivility. If blatant problems recur then post again. The warnings you've already left at this user's page appear appropriate. I'll follow up with a caution of my own. Durova 17:38, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

    Street Scholar (talk · contribs)

For this diff of a personal attack

and my response (to clarify any misunderstandings ) calling me a "racist" repeatedly and then himself makes veiled anti-semitic comments (apparently my being Jewish means I hate all Arab people according to Street Scholar). I would npa warn him, but he has a history of making inflammatory statements against people, getting even more aggravated when warned and finally being blocked for it. I do not wish to escalate his bile any more and request admin intervention.Hkelkar 11:22, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Update:He has made another racist attack against Bengali people here.Hkelkar 20:58, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

This isn't the whole story: the first two diffs are in response to other unreferenced posts. I'd like to see a diff for the original "joke" post along with a diff for the strikeout and the apology. Durova 01:18, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I provided the diff above. It was an off-the-cuff remark that could be misinterpreted as ethnocentric and I apologized for it in my summary. I provide it again here] In contrast, Street Scholar persists in making racist statements

. and continues to spam hate sites. There is a post about him on ANI with more information where there his consensus that his behavior is trollish and unacceptable.12:57, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

First, please avoid use of the t-word. It wouldn't be appropriate for me to interfere in an arbitration case. Durova 22:41, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
I only reported what other admins said of him, that's all. His inflammatory statements were made in several pages, not just an rfAr page (if you would look at the diffs above). His racist statements against Bengalis was made in a talk page. I continue to be amazed at how easily he get's away with such disruptive behaviour.Hkelkar 03:18, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
This is an open arbitration case, which puts the matter in a different ball park. Raise your concern with the admins who handle arbitration. I suppose you could ask the clerk how to proceed. Durova 05:35, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Not all of his issues pertain to the Arbitration. Some of his racist bile was expressed in unrelated matters (just look at the talk page diffs above).Hkelkar 05:51, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Your edit comment for that post reads, I think you misunderstand yet your edit history shows that you ignored my recommendation to consult an arbitration clerk. Hkelkar, it is you who misunderstand. Shall I add an outside statement and a WP:POINT citation to the arbitration proceeding? Durova06:44, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

    2. 22:50, 7 November 2006 Deathrocker (Talk | contribs) (clown added inapropriate tag to image.)

Still personal attacks: 02:09, 11 November 2006. Since he is a coward, he wrote a "civil" message in English, adding the uncivility in Italian: "minchione", which means "moron" . --Panarjedde 01:22, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't like that since he's a coward comment at all. That's a personal attack in itself. The insults are relatively mild; however, given this editor's actions and long history of blocks I'll issue 48 hours for this one. If I discover you've made other personal attacks to provoke Deathrocker's comments I'll respond appropriately. Durova 01:33, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
"If I discover you've made other personal attacks to provoke Deathrocker's comments ": personal attacks to provoke Deathrocker others that what?--Panarjedde 01:40, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
You've been rather aggressive about this and your post to my user talk page inaccurately suggested that I had not blocked the other editor. I responded in under 15 minutes, issued the block, and refrained from leaving any formal warning on your own talk page. Yet you're unsatisfied? NPA2 was merited from your original request and you're closing in on WP:POINT. Durova 02:42, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Is there more to this issue than what is in this report? Deathrocker has asked me to review his block and to be quite honest, I'm having a hard time seeing how this 48 hour block is within policy. WP:NPA says, "In extreme cases, an attacker may be blocked under the "disruption" clause of the blocking policy, though the practice is almost always controversial." I agree that calling User:Panarjedde a "moron" and "clown" is not acceptable, but it doesn't strike me as falling within the parameters of an "extreme case". In addition, it looks to me like Panarjedde and Deathrocker have behaved at least as badly as each other and if one is blocked, I feel the other should be, too. . Sarah Ewart (Talk) 22:52, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

If you read WP:BLOCK, persistant personal attacks are a non-controversial block reason - it looks like WP:NPA hasn't been updated to reflect current consensus. Unfortunately Deathrocker has a very long history of prior blocks for edit wars and other personal attacks. I think Durova acted appropriately in the situation - also, if you read above he did mention that if he discovered that Panarjedde was provoking the attacks he would deal with that as well. Shell 23:17, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
The decision to block and the duration of the block were influenced by the editor's past record. A different editor has raised concerns about Panarjedde's behavior and I've invited that editor to open a request at WP:RFI. BTW that's she. ;) Durova 01:28, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Doh! And to think I got that right earlier this week; must be the cold meds. :) Shell 01:34, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
No problem. Feel better soon. :) Durova 02:40, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

This user threatened me and others in the past and got several admin warnings , , including a Personal Attacks - Last Warning . He was quiet for a month now but his last contributions attacked a bot and myself with threaten me that I get banned from Misplaced Pages and charging me for issues that I have never done and that are clearly outside of Misplaced Pages.

24 hour block for violations of WP:CIVIL. Durova 04:43, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

    Mitsos (talk · contribs)

The following is an excerpt of what has been left on my talk page: "I 'm proud of being White, because Whites created civilization. You are probably some fucking nigger. Whatever you are, you are completely immature."

Although, admittadly, I started this by attacking his "white supremacist" ideology, I believe that the language and attack here are unacceptable. I am not of African origin, but my Girlfriend is, and this is deeply offensive. Where I have explained and outline my attacks and arguments against this users ideology to this user, he retorts with that. I would ask that he be perminantly banned. He is clearly not a good influence on wikipedia, and a person like him able to influence and edit this site quite frankly scares me. - Izzo —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.150.148.91 (talk)

Mitsos has just now posted very unpleasant swearing and personal abuse at User_talk:SandyDancer#Fuck_you. MarkThomas 18:45, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

And been blocked for it, although not by me. Durova 05:20, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Please have a look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/User_talk:Apocolocynthosis Apocolocynthosis says Is that a Turkish joke? (Esek sakasi mi bu?) (esek means donkey and saka means joke in Turkish, he/she uses donkey for turkish. (Turkish joke: donkey joke). There is not a phrase like this.
