Every two weeks, an Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight will be picked using this page. This is a specific topic which either has no article or a basic stub page that is directly related to Australia, the aim being to have a featured-standard article by the end of the period, from widespread cooperative editing.

The project aims to fill gaps about Australia in Misplaced Pages, to give users a focus and to give us all something to be proud of. Anyone who is a registered user, not just Australians, can nominate an article and can vote for the nominated articles.

Every second Sunday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for two weeks to potential contributors.

Previous winners that have gone on to become featured articles can be found at /Features.
All previous winners can be found at /History.
Removed nominations can be found at /Removed.

Selecting the next Collaboration of the Fortnight

The next winner will be selected on Sunday, 26 November, 2006, 20:00 (AEST)

Voting

Please vote for as many of the following candidates as you like. Please add only support votes. Opposing votes will not affect the result, as the winner is simply the one with the most support votes (see Approval voting).

Only registered users should vote. Any Wikipedian can vote on this page. You do not have to be an Australian.

To enter your votes, simply edit the appropriate sections by just inserting a new line with "# ~~~~". This will add your username and a time stamp in a new numbered list item.

Potential voters should consider when voting whether they are prepared to contribute to that article if it is selected. The ACOTF can not be effective if people vote purely in the hopes that someone else will improve an article. The purpose is to draw together a group of interested people for a time.

Tie-breakers

In case of a tie, a special voting round will be launched for the next 24 hours. Users may only vote on one of the tied articles. If there is still a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.

Nominations

New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of this page. Please use the template.

If the page you are nominating already exists, please add {{WP Australia | collaboration-candidate=yes |...}} to the top of its talk page.

Considerations for nominations

  • Please only nominate Australian articles which don't currently exist or need serious work. – also see Australia stubs). If you have an article that is not related to Australia please use Collaboration of the Week, which is not specific to Australian articles.
  • Giving reasons as to why an article should become the ACOTW may assist others in casting their vote.
  • Can the wider community easily contribute to the article? Or is it something only a small number of people will know about?

Selection

If the article is selected as the ACOTF, enter the article's complete title at Template:Collab-australian. The template {{Current Australian COTF}} should then be placed at the top of the selected article's page. This expands to:

Template:Current Australian COTF

When the article is no longer ACOTF, please add the following template to the talk page: {{past acotf|date|year}}

Pruning

Nominations will be moved to /Removed if they do not attract attention. An item will be allowed to remain up for voting two weeks per two votes it receives.

NOTE: If the turnover of collaborations slows down as it did in September/October 2006, the expiry dates should be taken with a pinch of salt for a while and allowed to relax to ensure popular choices are not pruned merely due to nobody actually selecting a new collaboration topic.

Items may also be removed if they are inappropriate for nomination (see Considerations... above)

Please see the talk page to discuss to changes in pruning policy.

Comments:

  • Whole sections of this (particularly the history) are copy-pastes from other sites. Did some minor g/p and structural tidying last night. What it really needs is some more images and citations! Hide&Reason 11:08, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Is very topical with current restructure and industrial action.

  • Was suggested on the talk page by Jen Powell-Psmith. We could do so much more with this one, and I'd be happy to jump in and do some of the work myself. Rebecca 10:57, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Thanks Rebecca - this page seems less developed than comparable pages of other international events so thought it was worth adding to the list. It would be fairly easy to improve on as there isn't much information there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jen Powell-Psmith (talkcontribs)

Nominated on October 19 2006; needs 6 votes by November 30 2006 to remain listed.

A structured response to User:Jenny Sinclair's call to arms. If you ignore the list of winners, this amounts to an appalling stub for what is the biggest prize on Australia's literary calendar, is it not?

  • Shouldn't need much work to get to FA. Pretty obvious australian critter and there aren't a huge number of biology FACs. Misplaced Pages may lack a bit in these areas.Cas Liber 01:11, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I don't think we should have separate articles on the Anzac legend and Anzac spirit. Anzac spirit could do with some work.--Golden Wattle 22:20, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Rove McManus

  1. Shiftchange 13:27, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Comments: As McManus is a Gold Logie winner and a focal point of many international celebrities and general publicity and attention, his page should be indicative of him and of his achievements, however many details that should be topical are simply footnotes presently, and many of these deserrve elaboration or expansion. In short, I'd love some help getting it there. I am happy to prune and keep things tidy. Generally that's what I do in general here in WikiPedia, however addition of content and notation and reference I don't believe to be one of my greater skills, and would love the enclave of attention that can be provided by (around) 150 other soldiers on my side.

McManus is an over-rated, not very funny or original, industry hack, undeserved of extra attention here at Misplaced Pages. There are far more important subjects to collaborate on. - Shiftchange 13:27, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

Comments:

  • Already a very lengthy article; but until this morning there wasn't a single reference or source (apart from the Triple J site itself). A lot of the text is unsourced opinion. There are also many sub-articles that are either quite short or non-existent. -- Chuq 03:25, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
