Picture of the day George N. Barnard George Norman Barnard (December 23, 1819 – February 4, 1902) was an American photographer who was one of the first to use daguerreotype, the first commercially available form of photography, in the United States. A fire in 1853 destroyed the grain elevators in Oswego, New York, an event Barnard photographed. Historians consider these some of the first "news" photographs. Barnard also photographed Abraham Lincoln's 1861 inauguration. Barnard is best known for American Civil War era photos. He was the official army photographer for the Military Division of the Mississippi commanded by Union general William T. Sherman; his 1866 book, Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign, showed the devastation of the war. This photograph, by Mathew Brady, shows Barnard c. 1865.Photograph credit: Mathew Brady; restored by Adam Cuerden ArchiveMore featured pictures...

Gotta go? Try the oldest toilet in the world! Unfortunately that's all you'll see on a visit to Lothal, which otherwise is host to the oldest-known port in the world. The ASI has buried the rest.

Thank you all!

I'd love to spam 159 usertalk pages with soppy thank you notes, but it might be slightly frowned upon or inconvenient to the people I'm thanking. I'd just like y'all to know that I appreciate your support a helluva lot. I mean it - I offer you a glass of ice-cold hard liquor (the dudes who don't drink, I'll buy thee a coke!). Thanks again - if I can be of any assistance, gimme a buzz anytime. Cheers, Rama's arrow 02:02, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Congratulations Nirav, thoroughly well done...although I must say that I am disappointed that you did not get a triple century....gee, I only had 2 portals, 15 DYKs and 1 FL when I passed...what's going on..I must be showboating too much. Oh, and no alcohol please, think Yellow Monkey doesn't need to be inebriated..he's deranged enough as is.Blnguyen (bananabucket) 02:19, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Congratulations Nirav! -- Ganeshk (talk) 02:59, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

User:MyChemical and Polaria (Medical Disease)

Could you take a look. Thanks. --BostonMA 03:07, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. He keeps removing the speedy tag however. The lack of a source is not the only problem, however. The article is truly patent non-sense. "If Polaria remains untreated, you have a 90% chance of dieing due to your gallbladder reputing.", "The term 'Polaria' derives from the person who discoverd the disease, Dr. Monroe Polariaoscpia.", "It's medical term is Expanding Communicable Gallbladder (ECG).". But hey, lets give him some time, as long as he doesn't remove the speedy tag! ;-). --BostonMA 03:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
You gotta give him credit! ;-). --BostonMA 03:21, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

thanks

Hi Bhadaniji - thank you very much for your support and guidance. You are a role model for every Wikipedian. Btw, I noted that you may be upset about certain problems Misplaced Pages is facing. Please don't consider leaving (or becoming inactive) - the problems are not as serious as the growth of the encyclopedia in the right direction. If you like, take a break or so but don't leave! If I can be of assistance for anything, just gimme a buzz. Thanks again, Rama's arrow 03:16, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I thank you for your note of encouragement. Niravjee, actually I am not leaving as such - I know as the community grows, new challenges would always surface. This is not a problem as we are the most resilient virtual community, capable of neutralizing any challenges. For last few months, I have remained generally inactive for all practical purpose though I am not completely inactive. I shall surely like to continue and would certainly become more active very soon. I do not find any necessity to take any break as I do not feel stressed any more - Misplaced Pages is rather de-stressing! Regards. --Bhadani 03:28, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Because people often complain that RfA thank-you messages are impersonal, I thought I'd give you the opportunity to create your own. -- tariqabjotu 03:38, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

I don't think any messages between us are impersonal. That your arduous journey culminated alongside mine evokes a sense of brotherhood. Congratulations for your devotion to Misplaced Pages despite the controversial previous RfAs you had to bear. Rama's arrow 03:43, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Yes... that could not have just been coincidence... -- tariqabjotu 03:45, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Congrats!!

Congratulations on getting such overwhelming support. Keep up the good work. I can think up of more FA ideas for you, but take some rest :) --Ragib 04:43, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes very impressive! But your RfA last time was (45/19/5) on 14 May 2006, the final this time (160/0/0) 17 Nov 2006, I would ask you to with draw you admin to shoot for (700/0/0) in about another six months ;-) Congrats! ▪◦▪=Sirex98= 05:00, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Hey Nirav! Congratulations on becoming an admin :-) You'll do great! BTW, when do you plan to get that mic fixed? --May the Force be with you! Shreshth91 15:05, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
