Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    DNA (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protation requested due to ongoing vandalism by IPVandals. Previously denied ("nea"), but looking at the last 100, last 200 edits, I find it hard to believe that semi-protection isn't warranted. (BTW, appears this page had some protection < 2 months ago, and vandalism surged after protection was removed.) I'm still still a tadpole editor here, but when a page requires multiple rvv's every day,.... — David Spalding /Contribs 18:06, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

List of Serb war criminals (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection/Alternatively Full-protection User Duja is putting up the article List of Serb war criminals for deletion. I wrote the article and it simply lists notorious people, members of serb army, who commited horrible attrocities during the wars on the Balkans. I feel like that user Duja want's, in some way, to hide these crimes and even perhaps deny them by constantly putting up, a totally fundamental and true article, for deletion. Please intervene with this problem by, for example, unabeling him to edit this specific article. This sort of things make wikipedia a sorrowful place which really hurts to see. Crop circle (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Full protection. User:Tommysun has been flaming on the talk page for this article, with various highly dubious 'evidence' of unspecified anamolies around crop circles. He has recently been adding this material to the article, with no support from other editors (one of his main reasons for including the material was that no editors had objected, or, more likely, had bothered to respond to the flaming). I at one point debunked all of the 'evidence' he offered, over the course of several hours and iterations. I eventually concluded that he would not accept any of mine, or other editors', reasoning, and ceased to reply in hopes of the flaming eventually dying out. I am loath to request a block on Tommysun, because he has not blatantly vandalized, but I request protection of the article until there is an obvious consensus, either for his additions or against them. I personally am against them, but if there were consesus for addition, I would not object. Based on his pattern of taking absence of disapproval as approval, I suspect that he will keep adding the contested material in the absence of protection. Michaelbusch 08:12, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Demographics of Taiwan (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection, this is the other page that needs semi-protection. 71.106.x.x refuses to join the Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Taiwan co-ordination and claims to be a "Watchdog" with others monitoring Taiwan-related pages. This is not constructive to work outside a team especially when he joins in at the last hour of the edits to insert politically motivated wordings. Semi-protection is needed to prevent anonymous users making political statements. They can't be bothered to register on Misplaced Pages, can't be bothered to join the project group, it just shows there is no commitment to work constructively and that their purpose is one of politics only. Please semi-protect the pages. — Nrtm81 07:41, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Hiatt Baker Hall (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Page was previously protected with redirect to University of Bristol, requested unprotection which was granted ca. 20th March 2006. Have made various edits to the page since then. Returned on the 28th of november to update the page in light of recent, published, news to find that the page had been changed back to a redirect to University of Bristol by user:Proto. Reverted and added news . As of the 29th of november the page had been reverted and protected by User:Proto.

I believe this page should be reinstated because:

    Polonium (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection requested yesterday, declined with suggestion of seeking consensus on the talk page. A request posted the talk page at that time has gotten no responses at all, i.e. nobody there has supported keeping it protected, much less there being consensus for protection. So I think it should be unprotected. In general, pages should be unprotected unless there's consensus to protect, not the other way around. 67.117.130.181 06:37, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

    • Not unprotected The article was semi-protected because it was subject to vandalism by anonymous users. Registered users can still edit it. Since Polonium is in the news it is reasonable to assume the vandalism is going to continue for a while. - Mgm| 13:35, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Demographics of Taiwan (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

'Unprotection, since there have been editors imposing politically disputed views in this page, more specifically that Taiwanese are Han Chinese. During a recent article, a full 66% of Taiwanese reject the view that they are Chinese, but these people continue to impose their views that Taiwanese are Han Chinese. I've tried to mediate without much success. I've suggest a compromise. I've even offered DNA evidence that showed that Taiwanese, mainly Hoklo and Hakka are descendents of the Yueh peoples, not Han Chinese from the North. My compromise would be that the term Han Chinese not be used, because the term Han Chinese is very misleading. Now, they have protection on this page and I can't do anything to remove what I think is misinformation. The views about Taiwanese people being Chinese is politically charged because that is the view that the PRC wants us to believe and could be used to justify their claim to the island. So if possible, could you help me remove the term Chinese or Han Chinese from this page. Thank you. Taiwanbest 16:50, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Declined. It was protected less than an hour ago. Were you by any chance the anonymous user editing it? --Majorly 16:57, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

    Taiwanese people (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotection, as the same people are spreading the views and refusing to compromise. They are blocking and protecting all pages relating to Taiwan and the Taiwanese people. I think this is politically motivated. I just want to remove politically sensitive material from these pages, but they refuse. I don't know whether they are working for the PRC or the KMT, but their views are not objective. Its political leaning favors PRC. I've repeated showed evidence that Taiwanese are not Han Chinese based on DNA evidence, but they refuse to listen and keep putting the term Chinese back to describe Taiwanese, which is erroneous. I feel the ethnicity of Taiwanese is for native Taiwanese like myself to decide, rather than Chinese on the Mainland. The Taiwanese language is different from the Chinese language. I've tried to point out the Taiwanese is ethnically unique based on culture and language. And that the only reason people on Taiwan speak Chinese today are because of 50 years of rule by colonizers. Had the Japanese won World War II, the people would have been considered Japanese, according to their view, because the population would now be speaking Japanese and enjoying Japanese culture. Also, these editors ignore that fact that most Taiwanese still speak Taiwanese language as their mother tongue at home, not Chinese. By allowing these biased individuals to protect the page, you are giving them the incentive NOT TO COMPROMISE since they feel they control the board. Please unprotect this page for this reason. Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

    Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Breast implant (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Last night I requested that the Breast Implant article be unprotected because the protected version is NPOV and contains numerous factual errors. The protected version was drastically revised by a plastic surgeon who deleted almost any mention of implant problems, even from peer-reviewed published research and FDA regulatory guidelines. The protected version also includes promotional web sites where plastic surgeons pay to be listed -- thus turning this article into unpaid advertisements for specific doctors.

I explained several of the errors, omisions, and problems on the Discussion page. Several readers agreed with me. At one point the article was unprotected and someone (not me) reverted it back to a better version of the article that I had worked on. Success! Several people agreed with the new, more accurate version, including 2 doctors, a public health professional, and others who didn't identify their expertise.

Then a little while later, it was reverted back to the inaccurate, biased version and protected by Samir, a monitor (I think) who tells us to "duke it out." Of course, we can't duke it out, because the plastic surgeon who wrote the current version is happy that it is protected and has no incentive to compromise. He won't listen to reason, even when we give him direct quotes from the articles he has cited incorrectly.

I'm also confused by the notion of "duking it out." This is a medical article, not a movie review. If a statement is factually untrue it should be corrected regardless of how many people think the statement is accurate and how good they are at duking it out.

As a former faculty member at Yale and Vassar, and current director of a research institute, I have published on this issue and other health issues. I would be glad to explain every edit that needs to be made. Can you help me to improve the article and then protect it from future vandalism? Misplaced Pages will lose good editors if their hard work is ignored and they are told to "duke it out." 72.75.6.148 00:02, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

This page was protected after the following series of reversions over a 24 hour period: , , , , , , , , . I think discussion needs to take place here. Even a casual glance at Talk:Breast implant and the numerous ad hominem attacks against myself for protecting this page will show that "duking it out" is an apt synopsis of what's going on at that article -- Samir धर्म 03:15, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

    • What has been happening on the Sweetest Day page is the most highly deceptive form vandalism possible. It has really opened my eyes to the credibility issues facing Misplaced Pages. Just read this edit to see what images and facts are being edited out of the article. Keep in mind that many of the "grainy images" have news articles attached to them, news articles which clearly demonstrate how Sweetest Day really began. Industry is using Misplaced Pages to rewrite America's history in order to sell products. Not very encyclopedic, in my opinion. Again, please protect this edit and allow a truly encyclopedic and comprehensive article about Sweetest Day to be created on Misplaced Pages. Improved quality images are on the way. Spinosaurus (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-Protection - This is my first request ever, so sorry if I get the formatting wrong. This article has been a reverting zone between a few (or possibly one editor using many) ip addresses & a few new users, & experienced editors who are frequent on the dinosaur scene, such as User:Firsfron. I'm requesting a semi-protection as the constant addition of wrong information to the Spinosaurus article is tiresome to constantly revert & is harmful to the article. The editors who are writing the article are experienced in the field of dinosaurs, and have sources. Although the "vandalism" (if you could call it that) has been happeneing in a speradic fashion over a length of time, the ip address's hinderance is becoming an annoyance. It is also confusing newer editors who have seen the page's numerous different editions of information (re: Spinosaurus talk). Anyway, I'll support what ever descision the admin makes that closes this request. Thanks, Spawn Man 00:21, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, there is not enough recent activity to justify protection at this time. Just watchlist and revert any vandalism. Nishkid64 01:45, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Semi-Protection The same thing that happens with almost every WWE PPV article starting a few weeks before the event, anon IP's and new users keep adding in rumored matches and matches announced during TV tapings despite the fact that there always a warning there saying not to add in matches that haven't been announced on TV or the companie's website.
