It is at an elevation of 1,004 feet (306 m).

As early as 1894, the lake was named for an unmarried pioneer who lived there. It was mentioned before that, though, in a geological study that was conducted from 1872 to 1884.

In the Spring of 2016, the Minnesota DNR utilized Bachelor Lake as a rearing pond for walleye. Using littoral acres, approximately 5,000 fry per acre were stocked in Bachelor Lake. For a lake to be a candidate for rearing fry, it must include areas that are less than 15 feet (4.6 m) deep, and "fertile with a history of winterkill events."
