Centipede is a remake of the 1980's classical game, produced by Atari and designed by Dona Bailey. This version has multiple in-game innovations, with improved game play and graphics. It sticks to the original idea, of shooting the entire centipede repeatedly; even though the player plays as a futuristic vehicle named The Shooter rather than the original garden gnome.

Game Modes

The game can be played in several game modes, marking quite a change from the original version, in which only one game mode was available.

Arcade

Only in this game mode, can the player play what would be a remake of the classical game. There is some more free movement and greatly improved 3D graphics. Note that in this game mode, the player only encounters the classical enemies or insects, conceived by Dona Bailey, and not the new ones. In resume, in this game mode, the player plays a classical game of Centipede

Campaign

In this game mode, the player plays a succession of levels all linked by a storyline; also, here the player or the players (since it can also be played on multiplayer mode) may encounter both classical and new insects or enemies.

Single Player

There is only one shooter, which is controlled by the player; this shooter must fight all the enemies alone.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer games can be played either via internet (Online) with other players on other PCs or through a 2 player split screen.

Online

Requiring an internet connection, the player can host or join online games.

Two Player Split Screen

The 2 players must be playing in the same PC and use different controls to control their shooters. Apart from the standard shooter, which is used by player 1, there also is a red colored shooter, which is used by player 2. Each player controls his or her own shooter and is supposed to work in a cooperative mode with the other player and his or her shooter; in order to favor cooperative mode, the shooters can shoot each other but cannot harm each other, since if a shot from a player collides with the shooter of the other player, nothing happens except that the shot is destroyed, but not the shooter.

If a player has lost all of his or her additional shooters or lives, he or she is out of the game and both screens are focused on the other player until he or she gains a life, which is automatically donated or given to the player who is out to bring him or her back to the game. Of course, if both players lose all their shooters, then the game is over.

Centipede Head 100 The head leads the rest of the body of the centipede; making it the most valuable part of the centipede. When it is shot, it becomes a mushroom and the segment behind it becomes the new head.

Some players focus on shooting only heads to get the maximum number of points from the action of killing a centipede

Centipede Segment 10 Segments follow the head and are the least valuable parts of the centipede.
Flea 250 Fleas originate at the very front of the map and move towards the opposite side through a series of jumps; they plant mushrooms on the ground they touch. Unlike the rest of the classical insects or enemies, fleas take 2 shots to be destroyed.
Spider

Close Range: 900

Spiders zig-zag towards the shooter through a series of jumps, making them difficult to shoot; spiders are known for waiting their chance for striking the shooter when the player least expects it.
