Rejoice Christian School is a private PreK-12 Christian school located in Owasso, Oklahoma. In 2021, the school received national attention after an 8-year-old girl was expelled for telling another girl she had a crush on her.

History

Rejoice Christian School was founded in 1992 by the First Free Will Baptist Church. It started as a pre-school and a kindergarten with only 40 students but eventually began serving all grade levels.

In 2014, Rejoice Christian School received a $50 million donation from the Eddy Gibbs Family Trust, allowing them to consolidate into one campus.

Academics

Rejoice Christian School is accredited by the ACSI.

The AP courses offered are Calculus AB, Psychology, and English Literature and Composition.

The Demographic Breakdown of the 691 K-12 students enrolled during the 2017-2018 school year was:

Controversy

In January 2021, an 8-year-old girl was expelled after telling another girl she had a crush on her. Her 5-year-old brother was also expelled.

School officials declined to comment on the incident, citing “privacy and other factors.”

After the incident, the girl’s neighbors organized a drive-by parade for her. She also received 150 supportive messages from people around the United States as of January 29, 2021.
