Shy Away is the first single on the upcoming Twenty One Pilots studio album, Scaled and Icy. It was released on April 7, 2021, through Fueled by Ramen. A music video was released alongside the single, directed by Miles Cable and AJ Favicchio. The song has been described as "propulsive synth-pop".
Background
The song was started as a tutorial to learn how to use a recording studio. Tyler Joseph, the frontman of the duo, created the song for his younger brother. The song was created while communicating virtually, as the COVID-19 pandemic limited interaction between the members of the band. The song was released a day after the announcement of Scaled and Icy, the upcoming album.
