==Biography==

Kathleen Coen was born in Culfadda, four miles from ], the daughter of Philip and Bridget Coen. The middle child in a family of three, her elder brother worked in the local post office and her younger sister became a teaching nun. Reynolds remained largely apolitical, in spite of her husband's election to ] in 1977 and his appointment to ] in 1979. She took on a more prominent role following his election as ] in 1992, just a year after being diagnosed with ] from which she made a full recovery.
