He was Adviser and Minister of Economics and Statistics Planning Department of Uttar Pradesh in Akhilesh Yadav Government from 2016 to 2017. He has been considered to be close to Mulayam Singh Yadav. He was appointed State Secretary in 2017 when UP CM Akhilesh Yadav was President of Samajwadi Party.
