Gopichand Padalkar belongs to Dhangar community from Maharashtra, He started his political career on 6 December 2006 from Rashtriya Samaj Paksha under the inspiration of Mahadev Jankar. He contested Maharashtra Assembly election in 2009 from Rashtriya Samaj Paksha u and got 20,000 votes.
In 2012 he joined Bhartiya Janata Party and contested 2014 assembly election from BJP from Atpadi-Khanapur constituency.
On 1 August he came through some differences on Dhangar community reservation with BJP and left the party.
In March 2019 he joined Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi and contested Sangali Lok Sabha seat. He gave tough fights to Sanjaykaka Patil and Vishal Patil by getting 3,00,234 votes.
