Turks in the United States are either Turkish people, or other Turkic peoples, who live in the United States even though having been born outside the US, or are United States-born, but have Turkish or other Turkic roots. By Turkish or other Turkic roots, this could mean roots linking back to Turkey, Cyprus (both South and North) or the communities of the Turkish diaspora or other Turkic diasporas. According to the 2000 US census, there are 117,575 Americans of full or partial Turkish descent. The States with the largest Turkish-American populations are New York, California, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, and Illinois. The US cities with the largest Turkish communities are New York City, Miami, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
