VP Page

Hi Sudharsansn, Let me know whats your plan of action. I guess there is a lot to be done. It would certainly be a good idea to protect the page, but that would also prevent anyone from editing except through the admins. Elalan 02:59, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

vandalism

However bad you may think the Velupillai Prabhakaran article is, sticking a speedy delete tag on it is not the right approach. It makes you the vandal and is liable to get you blocked. -- RHaworth 01:29, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Dear Roger, you might want to go through the history of that page to understand what I literally mean, when I say 'vandalism'. Pls refer to Velupillai Prabhakaran, the talk page and the article history and also the points being made there.
While every effort is being made to ensure that the other version stays as it is, why is effort to balance this article, inspite of several edits being negated due to mass reverts? That's my whole point!! Why is a pro-Sinhala mafia thwarting every attempt to balance this article, inspite of several cited reasons behind Alred Durairaj, Child killer mentions, it always reverts back to the original Anti-Tamil, Pro-Sinhala version. I put up the vandalized tag to clearly suggest that every effort made to ensure NPOV is being negated. Any suggestions??
What do you think should be done about that article. Thanks for your mention Sudharsansn 02:02, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Just a Suggestion

I've looked at some of your comments on LTTE related pages, and though I could not agree more with your overall message that there are some Pro-Sinhala and obviously biased statements in those pages, your posts in the talk pages are very emotional and border on all out flaming of that certain group. So just a suggestion that you might want to reframe from calling them names because it depreciates your solid arguements about the article Thanks Mate --Sharz 08:35, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to the India project

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Misplaced Pages's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Misplaced Pages.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Ganeshk (talk) 02:23, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Tamilnet

You might want to see what is happening at the Tamilnet page. Your suggestions with regards to this content dispute would be helpful. Elalan 18:15, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I have gone through and added citation need facts for anything that I felt needed a citation on the VP page. You might want to look at that as well. Already there is an effort to stop with some Mickey Mouse reasoning. Elalan 21:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Velupillai Prabhakaran

As you can tell, I'm willing to go through with a hacket and cut it all out if necessary. I removed that whole sociological study that was the "cult of personality" section and will try to hack the rest down into a reasonable article. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 23:34, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Sri lankan WikiProject

Hi Sudharsan, I got your e-mail. For information on creating a project, Guide to WikiProject organization would really help. I would suggest you start WikiProject Sri lanka, and go from there. You can copy-paste the wiki-code from the WikiProject India. There is a need for geographic projects such as this. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 23:56, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Sudharsansn, you will be suprised that I don't use any one of the instant messenger/icq type software. Nevertheless I would like to give you my email address but not make it public. Since anything written here is available to anyone to access. So how about we meet on a wikipedia irc channel and I we will exchange details there. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Elalan (talkcontribs).

WikiProject_NCSLC

I am not sure about this. I think this kind of project would divide editors on regional lines. WikiProject Sri lanka would have been a more neutral project that would cover all kinds of topics, geography, history etc, not just focus on the ethnic conflict. Please comment on my talk page. I check my messages here every day. - Ganeshk (talk) 02:57, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Hi Sudharsansn, I wanted to encourage you in your efforts to start the wiki project and you work on the VP page is already making a remarkable step forward. For most current and former people from Ceylon, it is the ethnic conflict that has largely dominated their lives for the better or worse and is the prime focus of attention. A campaign of misinformation and vandalism that has been going on has to be neutralized and exposed. We have to stand for facts period. Any news source or outlet that has been unaffected by the current press censorships moves in Sri Lanka on the ground is the target of attacks and lopsided arguments here in wikipedia. I do have to wonder if these attacks are more organized and coordinated effort of establishment entities. Elalan 04:43, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Btw, I'll be glad to join the project. How do I go about doing it. :) Elalan 04:47, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I would call it Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Sri_lankan_ethnic_conflict. The best would be to put it as Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_Sri_lanka/Ethnic conflict, as a task force/work-group. In the end the name does not matter, as long as you have interested participants. Did you check out the newly created Misplaced Pages:Sri Lankan Wikipedians' notice board. All the best! - Ganeshk (talk) 00:45, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
  • Those you reported in the WP:NPA were the resons for our the User Iwazaki to be warned already. Because the action has been already taken, there is no need to report it again. Till, if the personal attack attitude of the user is not changed, (The diffs you provide should be after the time the warning was issued), you may report again in the same notice board. I think User:Iwazaki is our fellow wikipedian and we have to forgive and forget his mistakes and make our minds to work together in peace. --∞Sechzehn1611:26, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Tamilnet

You might want to take a look at the Tamilnet article. I am attempting to cleanup some of the discrepancies within the article. Elalan 06:19, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Velupillai Prabhakaran article

Sudharsansn, when I said you had put a lot of work into the article, I really didn't mean that in a bad way. I 'll try to go thru the article soon and tell you what I think.
And by the way, not bad Sinhalese:-) --snowolfD4 23:56, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Tamilnet Again

I have cc'ed this to two admins (just wanted to keep you in the loop).

User snowolfd4 has come up with new ambiguous reasons to remove relevant content from the Tamilnet article as he did for the Vellupillai article:

Here is his justification:

Sudharsansn the reasons are given in the edit summery. Thats not vandalism. Get your facts straight. Practically everything I removed is irrelevant to the context of the article. The international news organizations don't say sympathetic to LTTE website. Its plain pro LTTE website. That means they support the LTTE. Plain English. Not sympathetic. Support. And stuff like

David Jeyaraj a Canada based freelance journalist known for his neutral stance in the current Sri Lankan civil war had written that Karuna, was personally involved in the murder of famed journalist Taraki Sivaram

is just not encyclopedic and doesn't belon in WP. So again I'm removing irrelevant content and restoring my previous version. --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 04:16, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

He claims David Jeyaraj's statement (with reference) is unencylopedic, so thats he decides to remove it completely. He also insists on mentioning the LTTE with the list of countries banned in detail. He also insists on saying the website supports the LTTE, which is legally vague. Material support, financial support ?? The best word as far as I see it is that it is sympathetic to the the LTTE. Furthermore he blanks many other statements, with relevant citations without even discussing it. Elalan 05:33, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Thileepan

Hey There, I really need some help with the Lt Colonal Thileepan page, especially concerning his early life as a student etc. Thought you might have some background infomation on that.

Thanks --Sharz 23:35, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Ilaiyaraaja

Hi. Could you please read through the Ilaiyaraaja Misplaced Pages article and provide comments? (please provide comments at http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Peer_review#Ilaiyaraaja). If possible, please refer this Misplaced Pages article to other Misplaced Pages users who may be interested and may be able to provide constructive comments for the improvement of this article. NCLSC Banner

Hope you saw the reply I posted int the Project NCLSC section. Prepared this easy-to use code. Please add it to the talk pages in the scope. It also has a category. --∞Sechzehn1610:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Code {{Misplaced Pages:WikiProject NCSLC/banner}}
Result

This article is within the scope of the NCSLC Project, a collaborative effort to improve Misplaced Pages's coverage of Ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka and to provide a balanced opinion on the ongoing crisis. The primary objective is to contribute and maintain pages pertaining to the Sri Lanka Tamils, LTTE and the Sri Lankan government's efforts towards resolving the crisis.

NCSLC stands for Neutral Coverage of the Sri Lankan Crisis. If you would like to participate, you can visit the project page, where you can join the project and see a list of open tasks.

Vandalism

Please do not remove content from Misplaced Pages, as you did to Velupillai Prabhakaran. It is considered vandalism. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. --snowolfD4 15:39, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

The text is sourced from the BBC article. Removing it is vandalism. Do not remove it again. You will be blocked from editing if you continue to blank the article. --snowolfD4 18:04, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

By repetitively using the word 'vandalism' you cannot claim that I am a vandal, because I have documented every edit I have made in the talk page. Refute it there and claim for the 'vandal' tag than making dubious claims!! This isn't a warning mate, it's quite simply just a joke! Refer to the talk page for all justifications made as per Wiki policies! Sudharsansn 18:37, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Their contributions gain more significance as we try to provide more information on places, districts and states of India. As a thumb rule, maps serve better if they are in SVG format. The location maps by the cartography department has helped us include location information based on latitudes and longitudes for a give place within India. The Indian Roadways map is a featured image, one amongst the few best road maps in the world. Still, there is more work to be done. There are 604 districts in India (see List of districts of India), and each district page needs a map of that district. You can help too. Insulting Image

    • I saw the image is offensive. Is there any way to report and remove this image? --∞Sechzehn1614:08, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
    • There is also a userbox against some of us, User:Lahiru_k/UserBox/Oppose_against_LTTE which I found totally notorious. I complained to the Personal Attack Intervention Noticeboard, where they asked me to wait for a while because our friend User:Elalan has already issued Lahiru_k a warning. And with the desire for the Misplaced Pages not to become a host for these dirty and notorious jokes, I listed the image for deletion. Let's wait and see how it goes. If this image is kept in Misplaced Pages, then it is the game time for us to create its counterpats - or even better or worse! Recently, I am making some of my friends working in Japanese version of Misplaced Pages on the coverage of Sri Lankan crisis - it is totally biased to the extend that it says neusences like LTTE is liked with the Maoist rebels and they claim Tamil Nadu - a hard work to be done there too. Actually this image is copyright violation. Its Donkey from the movie Shrek superimposed on part of the LTTE logo. The copyright permission on this is invalid. Elalan
The image is a copyright violation, plus the statement on the user box opposes certain wikipedian, which is against the rule of the project. The user pages are not mean to be a soapbox or insult/attack/oppose anyone particularly fellow wikipedians. Elalan 20:13, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

    Impersonation of my Wiki profile

Please note that my existing userprofile: Sudharsansn is being vandalized by an impersonator who has created an id similar to that of mine.

1). The new impersonating vandal id that has been created is this: Snsudharsan whereas my real profile page is here: Sudharsansn.

2). Please note that this is not a coincidence as the vandal has left a comment in my remarks page making it appear as if I have edited this. He has also taken a picture from my website and posted it in my profile page which strictly confines it to vandalism and impersonation.

Kindly help urgently to prevent miscreants from vandalizing other pages using a profile name similar to that of mine. Pls help and do voice your concern in WP:AN/I and WP:PAIN and also Admin noticeboard.

    IPA for Ilaiyaraaja

Dear Sudharsansn: Noticed that you are good with the IPA. I have created an IPA, for the first time, for the pronounciation of Ilaiyaraaja's name. Could you please check if it is in good order? Thank you. AppleJuggler 02:48, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for providing your version of the IPA. I have incorporated it into the existing IPA spelling. Also please feel free to contribute to the Ilaiyaraaja article. The To-do List in the Discussion page explains it all, so the To-do List is the best thing to read for potential contributors. AppleJuggler 07:42, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi again! How are the Sri Lankan crisis articles going? Do provide me with a Wikilink to those I would be interested in reading about the crisis: was talking to a Sri Lankan friend the other day and thought it would be good to get an idea of the situation there. Elalan / Trincomanb

I want to make it very clear that I am not an advocate for Elalan or Trincomanb's innocence. I had a bit of an issue with the way the checkuser result was presented, but I still trust the checkuser to be correct. In addition, the results of edit comparing, in particular the fact that both users went silent from September 12 to 25, is compelling evidence that they are the same user. As such, an indefinite block for one of the accounts is warranted (the other account can still edit, or in this case, after a week it can). You can present your case at Misplaced Pages:Suspected sock puppets/Trincomanb, and if not successful there, you may take it to WP:RfC and then WP:RfM and/or WP:RfAr. This is the end of the matter for me.   / talk  14:46, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Dear Sudharsansn: Thank you for writing and informing me about the Punch Line article. It is an interesting article indeed and I would like to contribute to it in due time. By the way, I am a Tamil film and music enthusiast (please see participant No. 69 here) and am learning more about it as I go. Good cheers, AppleJuggler 02:08, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

Bloody hell man, some of those punch lines that are listed at Punch dialogue really had me laughing! Here's a good one I found through one of the links that you provided: "Amaidhikku Babaji, Adidhadikku Sivaji." — far out!! AppleJuggler 04:05, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume I, Issue 3 - December 2006

    Project News
    • Name change of cities in Karnataka: A straw poll was conducted on the proposal to change the name of cities in Karnataka, per the Nov 1, 2006 decision by the Karnataka government to rename them from the current anglicised forms. The result of the poll was to change the names. As controversial as the decision may be in the real world, the article Bangalore in Misplaced Pages still reflects the old name. You may be interested in knowing why. Dig the archives.
    • New Project Noticeboard (Shortcut:WP:INB): WikiProject India now sports a new colourful centralised noticeboard. An effort to make the noticeboard current and dynamic was mooted a few days back, and Ganeshk came up with the new format. The new noticeboard will strive to be the one-stop shop for all project related information. The shortcut is WP:INB.
    • Members List: The old members list is being phased out to give way for the new members list. New members are requested to add their names to the new members list. As the newsletter grows, further issues of the Project Newsletter will be delivered to those enlisted in the new list. So dash down now, to check if ur name is in there.

    • Welcome to the December 2006 edition of our newsletter. Time flies past like matter into the black hole. It is interesting to notice that we are already into the last month for the year of 2006. 2006 saw discussions and development beyond realisation. In the world of Misplaced Pages where quality counts than quantity, we have come a long way. We've made better than 'nothing', to say the least, and even that is an achievement. I take this opportunity to thank everyone including those who have dotted the i's and crossed the t's.

    • How to?: The "how to" part of assessment is very simple. Just head on to the talk page of any India related page and you'll find the {{WP India}} template. Simply classify the article based on the content and the criteria mentioned here. You can find the detailed instructions here. If you think it may qualify for GA/FA status, first consider submitting the article for peer review.

I reverted your edit -- it's not a good idea to start listing languages, as India has dozens of major languages. You may only intend to list a few, but other editors will feel slighted and start listing theirs and soon we have a huge list. It's enough to say languages of India. Tamil

Hey there, I wanted to pitch to you the idea of creating a vast Tamil catergory, to encompass famous Tamil groups, peoples, culture, etc etc. The current Tamil category is woefully non-existant, there are no tags nor is there any pratical links between Tamil related items. I worked with you on some Sri Lanka Conflict articles if you don't remember me, I'd certainly like your ideas on such a project and it's feasability as well as the long-term prospects for a WikiProject. --Sharz 10:48, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

    Project News
    • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
    • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

    Sister projects

I have been waiting for a reply to my last e-mail, but when none came, and when people were nagging me to create what they perceived as a truly neutral project, I went ahead and created Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation. (I thought about writing this by e-mail, but I thought I'll have a better chance for a reply here, when I saw that you have been contributing on Misplaced Pages since. Please feel free to reply to me by e-mail.)

It would be a bitter irony if two projects that state the goals of neutrality and reconciliation should not be able to find together. The whole point of my project is to bridge differences! I don't care under which project the reconciliation is done, as long as it's done.

What can I do to increase the chances for our projects to find together? Maybe you misunderstood my question about the conditions for joining. I was just testing the water. I now realize that it might have helped if I had clarified this when I got no reply from you; it’s only now that I’m rereading our mails that I’m realizing that I may not have been as clear as I thought I was. I’m really sorry about that, particularly because we now don’t have the option of me joining instead  of creating a new project anymore. But I can still lobby for our projects to join.

Of course, I still would love to welcome you on Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation. It is a bit harder now because I need to convince our other member(s) (per our rule that members are admitted by consensus). But because I sincerely want you aboard, I promise that I will do my very best to make your case. And I think it's a very good case. It’s written in our goals to be bipartisan, so we really need somebody from the other party, and who would be a better candidate that someone who created a project for neutrality that ended up representing the side that's less represented among our members? Any detractor would need a damn good reason to reject such a candidate! I truly respect you for creating the project from which we took 3 of our 4 goals.

Now that Raveen is on wikibreak and we have a new issue to discuss (Terrorist categorisation), we really need you! — Sebastian 18:55, 29 January 2007 (UTC), amended 21:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

    • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis (). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( ), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Misplaced Pages) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
    • Misplaced Pages Weekly 15: Misplaced Pages Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Misplaced Pages happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Misplaced Pages in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

The department aims to provide services in transliteration, formulating scripts for various languages, as well as translating articles from one language to another and validating sources in other languages to that of the encyclopedia article. If you are looking for a friendly translator here is your go-to point. Currently, we are still seeking representation for Kashmiri, Nepali, Oriya, Sindhi and Tulu, as well as reinforcements in all other languages.

    Nonsense of Punch Dialogue

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Punch Dialogue, by Sarvagnya (talk · contribs), another Misplaced Pages user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Punch Dialogue provides no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Punch Dialogue, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Punch Dialogue itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 02:51, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

    Re:IP vandal

You really don't need an administrator to revert simple vandalism for you. You're free to do so yourself and give the appropriate warnings to the user (see WP:UTM for a list of warnings). Generally, reports to WP:AIV require the vandal to have vandalized enough to require a level four warning; any further vandalism usually merits an AIV report. Now, off to bed... sephiroth bcr 07:36, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

I am good. :-) Well, I won't be frequenting Misplaced Pages for the next month or so due to personal reasons. That's why I wrapped it up with 3 DYKs this weekend. Misplaced Pages Tamil civilization discussion page is inactive and there is little collaboration. User:Taprobanus is currently working to get Sri Lankan Tamil people featured. I didn't join the team as I lack the expertise on the subject. But I guess you might be interested. I can only hope that they starting concentrating their energies on articles related to the mainland once they get the article on Sri Lankan Tamils featured. I personally feel that the coverage of Tamil Nadu-related articles is not upto the mark in comparison with, for example, the articles under the Karnataka workgroup. And then, on detailed examination you will observe that we don't have single biography as a FA-article. I feel that we could work on this. How about the article on M. K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar? 2009 is MKT's centenary year and we could get it featured on the Main Page on his 100th birthday. :-) I started working with Avichi Meiyappa Chettiar, but I couldn't find enough reliable sources. At present, I cannot afford to start upon something which would keep me occupied for long. But I hope that by November I would be free. Once my personal issues are resolved, I am planning to work primarily with Pachaiyappa Mudaliar and Madras Presidency apart from the ones I've already mentioned. I also suggest that we work with Pavalakkodi (1934 film), Ambikapathy and Chintamani. I made this suggestion and requested help but no one seemed interested. I worked with Thyagabhoomi (1939 film), Sabapathy (1941 film), Haridas (1944 film), Nam Iruvar, Chandralekha (1948 film) and Parasakthi (1952 film). But there are very few people who seem to be interested in contributing to such articles. Maybe, we could work upon them if you are interested.. I'll be there whenever I get time. But sadly, I dont' think there exists a semblance of cooperation or coordination. This is one thing which needs to be sorted out. -RavichandarMy coffee shop 08:14, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

    Indus Valley language(s)

What we need is an article on it with all point of view. Google books will yield good sources as well as journal articles.Taprobanus (talk) 02:44, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Yes, you are right. Even with the existing material, the claims made are perfectly valid. Thanks for your interest in this :-) Sudharsansn (talk · contribs) 02:47, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

The Indus Valley Civilization article already lists all reasonable hypotheses:

The language of the IVC has not yet been determined. Proto-Dravidian, Proto-Indo-Iranian,{{cn}} Para-Munda and a "lost phylum" perhaps related or ancestral to the Nihali language have been proposed as the language.

if that leaves anything to be desired, please add the relevant sources. This is an imponderable unknown, and there is only so much that can be said about it. Our only source of information is the substratum in Vedic Sanskrit, which has a full dedicated article already. --dab (𒁳) 10:10, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

List of languages by first written accounts

You are in danger of violating the three-revert rule. Please cease further reverts or you may be blocked from editing. --dab (𒁳) 10:06, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

understand that the article lists languages, not scripts. (something which may suggest itself to you, like, perhaps from reading the article title). your version introduces "undeciphered" under "language name". It should be clear even to a comparatively clouded intellect that an undeciphered script is not actually an attestation of any language. --dab (𒁳) 10:17, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

List of language on first written count

As I mentioned in my citation - do not alter before discussing - since this references are being cycled at the wikipedia reliable resource noticeboard - by wikipedia administrator round boards executives.

your asserts on mathavan is outdaated for which all magnum opus discoveries on Tamil Brahmi has occured in the past 5 years and you are refering a journal published in 2003 by mathavan--218.111.169.17 (talk) 00:17, 17 November 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yogagates (talkcontribs)

SUDHAR - it was Mahadevan, Iravatham (2003) publisher. for your information I submitted almost 10 references to wikipedia authority and officials on wikipedia reliable noticeboard - to my surprise till now almost all have picked and cited on main three to four references - I'll wait till more graded officials to agree and acknowledge these recources as more then reliable. By the way why are you refering to 5 years old publication on your latest alter -: dont you know its outdated and belated. Anyhow wait till the officials cotact the IP owners of some wikipedia activist ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yogagates (talkcontribs) 01:02, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't understand what you are talking about, it doesn't make any sense. Also, the reference being five years old bears no impact on its truth value. Sudharsansn (talk · contribs) 05:42, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

look, it's a nice change to get a Dravidist pov-pusher now and again to contrast all the Sanskritist Hindutva ones, but I am afraid I have to oppose all pov-pushing, no matter where it is coming from. It is painfully obvious you have no case, so please just self-revert and let's discuss something constructive or at least interesting. --dab (𒁳) 21:01, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Sudharsansn, you have no idea what I have done to keep the Hindutvavadi propaganda off Misplaced Pages. If it wasn't for my efforts, Misplaced Pages would today be a Voice of India clone. Ok? So try and cut me some slack. I am perfectly willing to discuss your points at Talk:Indus script, calmly and rationally. We are both linguists, so it may help for you to think of this as an academic presentation (keeping in mind WP:NOR). The present discussion has been about your attempts at pov-pushing at the "list of languages article". If you are willing to drop this, I am perfectly willing to reconsider your behaviour and welcome you as a bona fide editor. --dab (𒁳) 10:19, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

    Provocation

Ignorant people should not be allowed to provoke people such as u, not in thoughts or words. The best medicine is a well cited fact that vaporizes the mental midget. As a linguists it should not be difficult for you to get academic sources, always rely on them books and journal articles and we will not have not any issues in pedia. Thanks Taprobanus. First, these chaps are jobless and have more time and mafia backing than people like us. Second, as you noticed, it all boils down to bullying, user Srkris simply discredits the evidence against his POV while he uses that EXACT same evidence for his POV. I think this is a system flaw, even with citations or anything, the person with more time and a bigger number of users to back one's pov seems to win. It is nearly pointless to have a system, like Misplaced Pages, to work on the consensus gained by POV mongers, including having a Wikiquette page in which editors like Srkris, with absolutely no regard for anything in WP, report this here. He just wanted to get me blocked because he was blocked a few days earlier and he was involved in an edit war with in the Sanskrit article. Sudharsansn (talk · contribs) 23:45, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, but "he started it" is a thin excuse. You are obliged to remain civil. If you are being stalked/harassed, the answer is to report it, not to retaliate. The comments by Srkris you link to are borderline, but look to me to be intended more to irritate you than usefully contribute to wiki. If tehy continue, let me know William M. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. If necessary, pursue dispute resolution. --neon white talk 18:55, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Your recent spamming of pirate a game site

Please be advised that the multitude of links you added to playable versions of games are in violation of the owner's IP and have been reverted. Links to clones and playable versions are not allowed unless hosted by the owner of the IP in question. --Marty Goldberg (talk) 04:17, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

You are mistaken. Nintedo8.com is not affiliated with Nintendo, and clearly states "This page is in no way affiliated or endorsed by Nintendo or Nintendo of America." at the bottom of the page. They, and any parties involved, have no rights to said games, and are trying to get around any legal issues by claiming they only host the emulator and link to the roms (i.e., a link site). --Marty Goldberg (talk) 05:05, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Please do not participate in extended conversation with User:Srkris as you are an involved editor and your opinion will be considered partisan. Un-involved editors and administrators will take care of it. Thanks. Docku: What up? 13:32, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject India Newsletter, Volume IV, Issue 1 – June 2009

    Project news
Congratulations to the West Bengal workgroup for having their flagship article featured on the Main Page! The Indian states workgroup is also involved in maintaining articles about India's states and union territories. »

WikiProject Indian roads was recently started as a new workgroup, to standardize and improve articles related to Indian roads, mainly the National and State Highways. After all, India has the second largest road network in the world.

Iravan, the son of Arjuna, is now our 85 good article. How do we know this? Since last year, more processes have been automated, increasing productivity. Article alerts update the project with what's happening to India-related articles, from copyright violations to featured article candidates.

    To do…
During the last few weeks, peer reviews for the recent general election and 2003 Afro-Asian Games (held in Hyderabad) were opened and are waiting for more comments, as are several articles at the peer review department. Sikkim has been nominated for FAR, and Hastings Ismay, 1st Baron Ismay has been nominated for FAC»

Currently, 11,082 Indian articles need images. Please improve these pages, especially if you enjoy photography! We look forward to more contributions from you. To get started, go to the noticeboard»

    From the editors…
The last newsletter was written a year ago. In June 2008, Indian Premier League was "hot" on Misplaced Pages, but the article about this year's IPL has attracted 477 editors, or 53% more than the previous year! Even the number of articles in the scope of our project jumped by a whopping 18,500+ articles in an year. The 3.2-year-old India quiz continues to attract old and new Wikipedians, so join in the fun!

Wikipedians are organizing a meetup in Bangalore on July 4 or 5. If you are interested, head over to the page and add your name! Topics of discussion include Indian language editions of Misplaced Pages and Wikimedia India.

RegentsPark, one of the prominent members of our project, was promoted to adminship this year. If you'd like to know who are the most avid editors of Misplaced Pages by number of edits, refer to this list.

"While this issue has been resolved, one asks the question – what happens when there is a conflict of opinions? What about a Misplaced Pages entry on India and Pakistan, or the LTTE and the Tamils? Who can edit? Will the information be true?" writes B. Narasimhan of MiD DAY as deeper implications of the Scientology arbitration case, reminding us of the core principles of verifiability and the neutral point of view.

This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

File:India 1947 India Flag 3 and half annas.jpgA number of India-related articles have lost their featured article status, including Sikkim and Mumbai. The article about Gandhi was also demoted for referencing and image quality issues. Since then, Mumbai has been brought back to good article status, thanks to the efforts of Kensplanet and others.

Transport in India was promoted to good article status, thanks to the efforts of Rsrikanth05, SBC-YPR and GDibyendu.

Several new workgroups have been formed: WikiProjects Railways in India, Education in India and Transport in India. Please join us if you're interested in those topics!

    To do...
The articles that have been selected for our latest collaborations of the month are history of Mumbai, Indian Railways, rail transport in India, Indian general election, 2009 and telecommunications in India. We need your help to improve them!

These India-related articles are currently on featured article review: Kerala (FAR), Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (FAR) and rail transport in India (FAR). Would you allow these articles to lose their FA status?

Misplaced Pages Takes Chennai – a scavenger hunt and free-content photography contest – has started in Chennai, along the same lines as Misplaced Pages Takes The City.

Wikipedians in Bangalore organised a meetup on 5 July 2009; thanks to Tinu Cherian for hosting the event! Arunram and Tinu Cherian wrote extensively about the meetup, which was also covered by Wikizine, Headlines India and The Misplaced Pages Signpost. Photos have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Sunil Abraham from the Centre for Internet and Society has offered to help host such events in the future. All in all, the meetup was a great success. Watch out for the next meetup»

Nichalp, an Indian bureaucrat and major contributor to more than 23 India-related featured articles and lists, was desysopped over allegations of paid editing and using sock puppets. An RfC about paid editing was opened as a result of this incident.

A prolific editor and administrator, Bhadani is among the top ten Wikipedians by number of edits across the English Misplaced Pages. Congratulations to Bhadani for also making the most number of edits among Indian Wikipedians!

WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 1 - (June 2010)

    Project News

WP:IND Newsletter is back! It's been nearly a year since the last edition, but we hope to bring out issues on a more regular basis now. The India Wikiproject was set up to increasing coverage of India-related topics on Misplaced Pages, and over the past few months the focus has been on improving article quality. A number of the project's featured articles underwent featured article reviews over the past year. Of these, Darjeeling and Flag of India survived the review process, while the rest were demoted. During the same period, Gangtok, Harbhajan Singh, Darjeeling and Mysore were featured on the main page respectively on August 20, September 17, November 6 and December 29, 2009. Meanwhile, articles on topics as diverse as Political history of Mysore and Coorg (1565–1760), Marwari horse and Iravan were promoted as featured articles, and respectively appeared on the main page on March 25, May 17 and May 28, 2010. Consequently, the number of FA-class articles under the project's scope dropped from 67 in August 2009 to 63 in June 2010. The number of good articles, however, saw a more than 40% increase, from 91 to 130 during the same period, while the number of featured lists saw a 33% increase from 12 to 16.

Due to the recent policy changes regarding unreferenced Biographies of Living People (BLPs), an effort was started in January 2010 to source all unreferenced BLPs coming under Wikiproject India. 1200 such articles were identified initially and more were added to the list later. Due to the sourcing effort, the number of Indian unreferenced BLPs is down to 565 currently. During February-April 2010, There was a large scale disruption of Kerala related articles by a Thrissur based IP vandal. Editing from a dynamic IP BSNL connection, the vandal changed dates of birth, death and ages of a number of Malayalam and Tamil film actors. Later he added a few international biographies to his list. He also marked some living people like Arvind Swamy as dead. A month long range block was imposed on his IP range two times and each time he came back to vandalise dates once the block expired. Currently the range has been blocked for three months till September 11, 2010.

    What's New?
    Current proposals and discussions
    • A discussion is underway here to reach a consensus regarding the use of Indian number names (lakh, crore etc.) in Misplaced Pages articles. Please participate and add your comments.
    • A discussion is in progress here in order to determine whether non-Western (including Indian) forms of classical music should be referred to by the nomenclature of art music instead of classical music. Please participate and add your comments.
    • Watchlist the Articles for Deletions page for India related discussions. Opinions from more Indian Wikipedians are required in many of the discussions.

If you've just joined, add your name to the Members section of WikiProject India. You'll get a mention in the next issue of the Newsletter and get it delivered as desired. Also, please include your own promotions and awards in future issues. Don't be shy!

Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue (Issue 2 – (July 2010)). Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

Looking forward toward more contributions from you!

WikiProject India Newsletter Volume V, Issue no. 2 - November 2010

    English WikiProject News

After a missed issue, the WP:IND newsletter is back on track to being a regular bimonthly feature. The Indian WikiProject has seen plenty of online and off-line action, both in English as well as other Indian languages, and we now have a bigger, better format that intends to feature content and news from the English as well as other Indian language Wikipedias.

Reaching out to Indians has been the theme of the Indian Wikiproject over the past couple of months, aiming to involve a greater number of Indians in editing both the English and Indian language Wikipedias. To this end, efforts to set up the Indian chapter of Wikimedia have moved into their final stages, and registration of the society is currently pending. An effort is underway to push for "WikiMarathons" at meetups, where attendees will be encouraged to edit the English and/or Indian language Wikipedias. This is intended to popularise Misplaced Pages editing among the general public. In addition, a bot to post DYK's from the Indian Wikiproject to Twitter was created and launched by User:Logicwiki.

    What's New?

Regrettably, the number of Featured Articles has dropped from 63 in June to 58 at the end of October 2010. Several FAs came up for review and were delisted, while Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties of India was saved. Meanwhile, Chalukya Dynasty appeared on the main page on July 9, 2010. Hearteningly, the number of Good Articles increased from 130 to 136 during the same period, while the number of Featured Lists remained constant at 16.

The source code for the Article Alert Bot is now available and the bot itself is expected to be up and running very shortly. This means that article alerts for the Indian Wikiproject will again be available, enabling editors to easily keep track of developments in respect of reviews, nominations, deletions etc.

The date change vandal mentioned briefly in the previous issue made a reappearance when the range block on his IP range expired in September. Consequently the block was extended till September 2011.

In October there was a heated discussion in the India project noticeboard regarding the copyright status of the Indian party symbols. The discussion was triggered by the deletion of Wiki San Roze's party symbol images by Hammersoft as copyright violations. No resolution was reached, partly because of our inability to explain to Hammersoft how election symbols in India differ from party logos. Comments are requested from anyone with a background in Indian copyright law to clarify this issue.

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.
