Tech News: 2021-38
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Growth features are now deployed to almost all Wikipedias. For the majority of small Wikipedias, the features are only available for experienced users, to test the features and configure them. Features will be available for newcomers starting on 20 September 2021.
- MediaWiki had a feature that would highlight local links to short articles in a different style. Each user could pick the size at which "stubs" would be highlighted. This feature was very bad for performance, and following a consultation, has been removed.
- A technical change was made to the MonoBook skin to allow for easier maintenance and upkeep. This has resulted in some minor changes to HTML that make MonoBook's HTML consistent with other skins. Efforts have been made to minimize the impact on editors, but please ping Jon (WMF) on wiki or in phabricator if any problems are reported.
Problems
- There was a problem with search last week. Many search requests did not work for 2 hours because of an accidental restart of the search servers.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 September. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 September. It will be on all wikis from 23 September (calendar).
- The meta=proofreadpage API has changed. The
piprop
parameter has been renamed toprpiprop
. API users should update their code to avoid unrecognized parameter warnings. Pywikibot users should upgrade to 6.6.0.
Future changes
- The Reply tool will be deployed to the remaining wikis in the coming weeks. It is currently part of "Discussion tools" in Beta features at most wikis. You will be able to turn it off in Editing Preferences.
- The previously announced change to how you obtain tokens from the API has been delayed to September 21 because of an incompatibility with Pywikibot. Bot operators using Pywikibot can follow T291202 for progress on a fix, and should plan to upgrade to 6.6.1 when it is released.

Apology & Seeking Support
I had another account which was not being used by me but with similar COI disclosure. Finding it really really difficult to not appear like thief and the wiki police behind me)
for my draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/Draft:BitRaser ( I have created this after a lot of decline and study to not make it look like advertisement, the entire page is re-written to adhere to wiki policy). Please if you can guide on which citation to be removed (as you had guided on earlier draft- in this draft I have used all new links as well), so that I will remove and it will give me a fair idea on those citation allow, so that I can bring similar credible citations. this page talks about a software that has been widely spoken in the media. But just that I am really newbie to really make sense of right citation. Please help on this. Thanks.
Note: I have been really thrashed on my user talk page, not because i intend to do something mischievous. It's just that I am caught into my noviceness, my hurry and my impatience. Will try to work on all. Need support!

Please help me if you get some time, thanks Shujakhan88 (talk) 15:41, 23 September 2021 (UTC)
Mohammad El Medawar
I understand deleting my article. I know this is my first time on Misplaced Pages. I understand also that you wrote that you do not look at the article twice. But, how can I know my mistakes?
Plus, I'm trying to send you an email and I'm putting your username rich_smith, it is giving me that no email address is assigned to this username
Please help
- @MohammadElMedawar: Apologies, it seems I made a mistake here. I have reverted the deletion request... however, you should not be writing about yourself, please read WP:AUTOBIO - Rich 15:36, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Rich Smith: :@Rich Smith:
Dear Mr. Smith, I understand very well your deletion of my article.
The text that I wrote is exactly the same as the text written in this Misplaced Pages article below https://en.wikipedia.org/Michael_Langston
Mr. Michael works as a professor at a university, and I work also as a lecturer in a reputable university. Mr. Michael work in research field of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and I work also in the research field of the same topics. Mr. Michael has multiple publications and he mentioned only 1 reference, and also I have multiple publications and I mentioned 1 reference.
May I know why my article is deleted while the article of Mr. Michael is available online.
I'm willing to listen to you, know what wrong I am doing and to correct my mistakes. My ultimate goal is to have my profile published on Misplaced Pages.
I truly believe that my article is notable (unique), I am not advertising myself, and I have an important award, and a very notable invention in the field of education. Moreover, I didn't write the article myself. Someone wrote it for me in a very neutral and non biased way, and I am just publishing it under my name. If that suits you, I can send it to you and you can publish it under your name so it doesn't show as autobiography
