Sherman3D (S3D) is an online anime game development community. S3D was founded by Sherman Chin and Tiffany Lim in 2001. Its members, SEVO (Sherman3D Extended Volunteer Organization), are volunteers who work without pay to develop Japanese anime based console-style role-playing video games.
S3D's members comprise game developers from different parts of the world with their own unique contributions to S3D's games. S3D strives to create games with intricately woven storylines that combine romance, action and comedy. They strive to develop games that lack extreme violence, but that instead embody good moral values and engrossing storylines with a touch of anime comedy.
Sherman3D has a long history where it started as a spinoff from Epix Interactive Studios Inc., a Delaware based company, in 2001 when it closed down when their MMORPG, Fate, was cancelled after the burst of the dot com bubble. The community was founded as a means of keeping the former Epix staff connected and continuously sharing information with each other.
The S3D community succeeded in creating the Karawachi space shooter game which caught the eye of Butterfly.net that subsequently invited S3D to develop an MMORPG for their supercomputing grid. Unfortunately, the project was never completed and Sherman3D ended its term with Butterfly.net.
S3D is currently developing its own episodic role playing game (RPG) entitled Alpha Kimori. They are also working closely with 5th Cell Media LLC to develop mobile phone games.
To date, S3D has completed various smaller outsourced games and published its own mobile game title, Kris Master, for the Nokia software market. S3D places emphasis on building a thriving community and has released many resources including tutorials, anime reviews, source code and various other graphical downloads for free.
