Bigg Boss 5 is the fifth season of the Tamil version of the reality television show Bigg Boss broadcast in India. The show will be premiere on 3 October 2021 on Star Vijay and Disney+ Hotstar with Kamal Haasan as the host for the fifth time.The show is telecasted at 9:30 p.m for 90 minutes on weekends and at 10:00 p.m for 60 minutes on weekdays.

House

House pictures were officially released on 3 October 2021; the house followed a "luxurious mansion" setup.

The promotion of the season began on 31 August 2021 on Star Vijay, with a short teaser featuring Indian actor Kamal Haasan, which confirmed his return as the host of the show. Haasan uttered the popular catchphrase "Aarambikalama?", translating to "Shall we begin?" An extended teaser dropped on September 4, 2021, incorporating a paradigm shift in a Tamil wedding scene and co-relating it with the Bigg Boss house. Two more promotional teasers were released in September 2021, featuring different commentaries from Haasan.

Audience

After Bigg Boss (Tamil season 4) which only had virtual audience due to Covid 19 rules and regulations, This season resumed having audience on sets with a limited number of audience and social distancing on set for the weekend episodes after the ease of Covid 19 restrictions in Tamil Nadu.

Raju Jeyamohan, an actor known for his role in Natpuna Ennanu Theriyuma, Naam Iruvar Namakku Iruvar (TV Series) Season 2.
Mathumitha Raghunathan, a fashion designer and model from Germany.
Abishek Raaja, a narrator and YouTuber.
Namitha Marimuthu, a model and actress, is also the first transgender contestant to enter Bigg Boss Tamil.
Priyanka Deshpande, an anchor, is well known for her anchoring in shows such as Super Singer and Start Music.
Abhinay Vaddi, the grandson of Gemini Ganesan and Savitri, an actor, appeared in the films Ramanujan(2014) and Chennai 600028 II (2016).
Pavani Reddy, an actress, known for acting in soap operas such as Rettai Vaal Kuruvi, Chinna Thambi, and Rasaathi.
Chinnaponnu, a folk singer, is known for singing many folk songs.
Nadia Chang, a model, and TikToker who hail from Malaysia.
Varun Kamal, an actor, and model who is known for his appearance in films Thalaivaa (2013) and Sometimes (2018).
Imman Annachi, a stand-up comedian and actor known for his appearance in films such as Goli Soda (2014) and Aindhaam Thalaimurai Sidha Vaidhiya Sigamani (2014).
Suruthi Periyasamy, a supermodel and a national-level basketball player.
Akshara Reddy, a model known for winning the beauty pageant Miss globe 2019 and her appearance in the show Villa To Village (2018).
Iykki Berry, a rapper and singer, and is also a physician and cosmetic surgeon.
Thamarai Selvi, a commoner contestant, and Folk Drama Artiste.
Ciby Bhuvana Chandran, an actor known for his roles in films like Vanjagar Ulagam (2018) and Master.
Niroop Nandakumar, an actor and model known for many beauty pageants.

Pancha Bhootam medal

In the third week, housemates were given a task to steal 5 medals all representing the five basic elements in the world. The 5 housemates who manage to steal the medals win a super power to safe themself or a co housemate of their choice from a eviction in the future and topple captaincy. However the power can only be used once and only availabvle till week 10.

	Vijayadashami special drama task	Day 12 : All the contestants are dressed up as certain characters and need to put on a drama play to celebrate the festival Vijayadashami.

The housemate who stood the longest without showing or changing his/her reaction wins the task. As Ciby stood the longest, he won the Captaincy Task and became the House Captain of Week 3

Underground Prison

^Note 1 : Namitha left the show on Day 6 due to personal medical reasons.
^Note 2 : Unlike previous seasons, anyone that has received at least one vote from inmates during the nominations process has been nominated for eviction.
^Note 3 : In week 3, in the luxury budget task Pancha Thandhiram, who ever is nominated for eviction needs to steal a medal and hide it in order to get saved from eviction. however the non nominated housemates need to sacrifice the medal and need to help a nominated housemate who they favor get a medal.
^Note 4 : The five housemates who stole the medal have a major power in the game, the power is they can use that medal only once to avoid eviction or stealing captaincy from a housemate. The power is only available up till week 10.
