Members of the group wear T-shirts bearing the Message, "I was born in a sewer called Capitalism, now I'm living for the Revolution". The most famous RCYB member was Joey Johnson, who burned the US flag, was arrested, and took the case to the Supreme Court. His case was known at Texas v. Johnson. The organization was first known as the Attica Brigade, then it became the Revolutionary Student Brigades, finally in the 1980s it became the RCYB. Many RCYB members hold dual membership to Not In Our Name and Refuse and Resist.
