WRDC-TV is a broadcast television station based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Broadcasting on UHF channel 28, it began life in 1953 as WNAO-TV, for its owners, the Raleigh News and Observer. It was the first television station in the area. In 1977, it changed its call letters to WPTF (the company which now owned it, Durham Life Insurance, had a slogan "We Protect the Family"), which it kept until 1991, when it took on its current call letters.
Currently owned by Sinclair Broadcasting, it was an NBC affiliate from 1962 until 1995, when it switched to the fledgling UPN network.
