Meri Maa was adapted from Star Jalsha's Bengali show Maa....Tomay Chara Ghum Ashena in December 2011 on Life OK. But due to low viewership, the show was cancelled in April 2012. In 2021, producer Gul Khan and Nilanjana Purkayasstha from 4 Lions Films and Invictus T Media planned a second remake to the original show for StarPlus. This is the second time that producers Gul Khan and Nilanjana Purkayasstha have collaborated, after Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala. The show premiered on 6 September 2021.
