The Pishieva family inhabited Piperitsa for many generations, Hajev and Gadev families also lived there. During WW2 Slavcho Pishieva (Gadev) lived there with his family Slavcho was called up to serve in the Bulgarian army. During the changing sides of the war from supporting Germany to the Allies Slavcho joined the partisans helping liberate Bulgaria from Nazi occupation. | |||
Slavcho’s first father (Gadev) was killed crossing the border into Greece. | |||
After WW2 during the Greek Bulgarian conflict Slavcho took his family from Piperitsa and escaped into Greece from the oppressive Communist government. They spent two years in a Greek concentration camp before moving to New Zealand in 1950. | |||
