Welcome!

Original research

Please stop adding original research, as you did to Israel and Hutu Power. This contravenes Misplaced Pages's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Misplaced Pages. GreenCows (talk) 17:27, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

I completely reject this, GreenCows. My statement about Israel was as follows-
These figures, however, almost exclusively do not apply for the Palestinian population of Israel and its occupied territories, who suffer racial discrimination and land alienation that human rights activists maintain is a form of apartheid. Israel's government has rejected such statements and most criticism of themselves as inherently antisemitic.
I cited both Human Rights Watch (https://www.hrw.org/report/2021/04/27/threshold-crossed/israeli-authorities-and-crimes-apartheid-and-persecution) and Amnesty International (https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/campaigns/2022/02/israels-system-of-apartheid/), making it clear that these were opinions that were theirs. The figures I described as being excluding to Palestine are true; whether living in Israel's legally defined borders or the illegally occupied territories, Palestinians have either a reduced life expectancy in comparison (https://academic.oup.com/eurpub/article/26/3/433/2467207) or one that is far lower (https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.DYN.LE00.IN?locations=PS) respectively. Palestinians have been alienated from their land consistently since 1948 and suffer racial discrimination in Israel and endemic anti-Arabism. As for Israel's rejection of criticism of themselves as anti-Semitic, there are many, many sources for this. (https://www.dw.com/en/opinion-separating-anti-semitism-from-criticism-of-israel/a-44737277) (https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/.premium-israel-s-bennett-on-ben-jerry-s-boycott-there-s-plenty-of-ice-cream-one-country-1.10013699) (https://theconversation.com/criticizing-israel-is-not-antisemitic-its-academic-freedom-148864) (https://www.theguardian.com/news/2019/mar/07/debunking-myth-that-anti-zionism-is-antisemitic).
I have also pasted this into Talk:Israel. Aubernas (talk) 23:35, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
I think you misunderstood me, only part of your addition to Israel constitutes original research. As Nishidani pointed out here, you added no source explicitly supporting the statement that "These figures, however, almost exclusively do not apply for the Palestinian population of Israel ". These figures do infact include them even if on average they have lower rankings relative to the Jewish population. That statement also makes absolutely no sense coming directly after "Reporters Without Borders ranks Israel 86th out of 180 countries for press freedom, while it ranks 23rd in the Economist's Democracy Index and is classified as a "flawed democracy"." I'm not saying that your addition of human rights activists calling Israel a form of apartheid is original research. The sources you added support that statement, however other editors removed that for different reasons. GreenCows (talk) 00:40, 22 May 2022 (UTC)

Puanga section in Matariki article

Hi there,

I've removed your section on Puanga from the start of the Matariki article a couple of times because:

1. The lead is supposed to be a summary of the main body of the article, so that information should really go into the Puanga section, and then be briefly summarised in the lead (which it already is: "Some Māori use the rise of Puanga (Rigel) or other stars to mark the new year.")

2. I checked the reference you supplied – the Te Papa page – and doesn't actually contain the information you added: nothing about the Manawatū, or Mt Taranaki blocking, or iwi moving to Wellington. So you would need to find other refs that specifically talk about what you're adding, in greater depth, and summarise them.

4. The specific claim that Puanga's observed because Matariki's not visible is at odds with what Matamua says in his book, so it'd be good to at least acknowledge, and maybe account for why, there's a difference in the sources, and explain why Kai Tahu and Northland iwi, who can see Matariki perfectly well, also observe Puanga. (Again, in the Puanga section.)

I actually think there's scope for an entire article about Puanga, exploring the differences between it and Matariki, and referencing pieces like this one; would you consider drafting one? Cheers, Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 03:58, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

1990 Auckland Jewish daycare stabbing

Hi Aubernas,

I was waiting for a train in Glasgow Central station the other day when I decided to pass the time by using the nearby article feature. I was surprised to see 1990 Auckland Jewish daycare stabbing appear in the list.

It seems you mistakenly added these coordinates when creating the article. I've removed them for now but just thought you might want to know about the error. Perhaps you'll be able to add the correct coordinates if you have access to them. Thanks! MarchOfTheGreyhounds (talk) 19:23, 7 July 2022 (UTC)

"One of the most right wing candidates"

Please stop adding this, it's original research. You've added it 3 times now, and you're close to breaking WP:3RRCzello 14:20, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

No, I added "the most right-wing of all the candidates". Couldn't find exact wording for it, but her platform suggested she was the most right-wing by far. I scaled it down to say she was among the most right-wing (with Kemi Badenoch), but regardless, I think the polices I mentioned afterward back that up. Aubernas (talk) 14:28, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
Well, that wording is even worse. Regardless we would need it be supported by clearer sourcing rather than concluding it based on her policies. — Czello 14:37, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

IP editing and removing sourced content

Are you making edits while logged out using IP 222.153.45.227? It seems obvious that this account and the IP are linked. You should not edit an article with both this account and by IP as you appeared to have done on Hobson's Pledge, Keith Holyoake, Death and state tangi of Norman Kirk, and Robert Muldoon, and you should not edit as an IP to avoid scrutiny. Misplaced Pages's policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow the use of both an account and an IP address by the same person in the same setting and doing so may result in your account being blocked from editing. Additionally, making edits while logged out reveals your IP address, which may allow others to determine your location and identity. If this was not your intention, please remember to log in when editing. See WP:LOGOUT and WP:SCRUTINY.

Additionally, please do not remove sourced content as you did on Affirmative Action. I don't see how the content you removed was not encyclopedic language. You must also explain why it's incorrect, especially if there are two reliable sources supporting the content. You cannot remove sourced content simply because you think it's incorrect. You could alternatively expand the section with other sources to add other viewpoints and context. GreenCows (talk) 16:14, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

DS Alert us politics

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Misplaced Pages's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.
