Roberto Amadei is born on 13 February 1933 in Verdello. in 1944 he joined the minor seminary of Clusone then after the high school diploma he was enrolled in the seminario romano in Rome.
He became priest on 16 March 1957.After his ordination he remained in Rome until he completed the couese of church history at the Gregorian University.
From 1960 to 1990 he had teached in the seminary of Bergamo history of the church.From 1969 to 1981 he was also the headmaster of the theology school of the diocesan seminary,in 1981 bishop Giulio Oggioni named him rector of the seminary.
In the 1991 pope John Paul II named him bishop of Savona and in 1993 he was transfered to the diocese of Bergamo as bishop
