December 2022
Hello, I'm MrOllie. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions have been undone because they appeared to be promotional. Advertising and using Misplaced Pages as a "soapbox" are against Misplaced Pages policy and not permitted; Misplaced Pages articles should be written objectively, using independent sources, and from a neutral perspective. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Misplaced Pages. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 15:31, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi MrOllie,
- Thank you for the notice, and I'm disappointed to receive this news as I spent a lot of time on those edits.
- I agree that Misplaced Pages should be objective and neutral, but I feel that Axie Infinity's page is overly negative. There are lots of positives being done in the ecosystem as well. My edits did not remove the negatives, but instead added positives to balance out the negatives. Plus, the structural and organization changes I think make the page read a whole lot better overall.
- Could you please point me to the exact statement that reads promotional? It surely can't be the whole thing right? PokeMario151 (talk) 15:38, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Misplaced Pages follows the tone of the sources, and the reliable sources on this are overwhelmingly negative. Your whole series of edits does indeed appear to be designed to either promote the game or minimize negative aspects. Are you associated with Axie Infinity or its developers in some fashion? MrOllie (talk) 15:41, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- My edits are in an attempt to:
- Make this read better overall. Offer structure and organization.
- Add positive elements that previous editors have missed.
- Again, I didn't remove any of the objective negatives, they are all there. I am only balancing them out because previous editors seemed to only care about bashing about SLP price and the hack.
- I don't believe shedding light on positives equate to being promotional. If this is the case, the world would be a dark and gloomy place. PokeMario151 (talk) 15:54, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Re 'balancing them out' - it sounds like you are looking for a WP:FALSEBALANCE. That concept is rejected on Misplaced Pages. Also, please answer the question I asked you. MrOllie (talk) 15:59, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- That's the thing sir. None of what I typed was false in any way. On the contrary, there are many statements in the unedited version that are false.
- Allow me to bring up the tape. Other than the structural/organizational changes and some minor edits, here are all of the statements that I changed/added:
- These are the only changes that I added - all fact and provable:
- - By the end of 2021, Axie Infinity had amassed ~$1.3B in revenue and topped out at over 2,000,000 daily average users.
- - In January 2022, Sky Mavis launched the Builders Program, which saw 1300 applicants hoping to build on the Axie IP.
- - In September 2022, the first AxieCon was hosted in Barcelona, Spain. This event saw speakers from Sky Mavis, the Axie Infinity community, and other ecosystem enthusiasts. It is here that Sky Mavis announced the official kickoff of Axie Infinity: Origins season 1.
- - In December 2022, Axie Infinity launched the first community-built game from its Builders Program, Defenders of Lunacian Land.
- - but within one week, Sky Mavis raised $150M and deployed $250M from its own balance sheet to cover the portion of the hack attributed to user assets ($400M total)
- - As of September 2022, $30M of the $600M has been recovered.
- Here are the statements that I changed - all false/misleading:
- - Sky Mavis charges a 4.25% fee to players when they trade Axies on its marketplace.
- (this makes it sound like Sky Mavis keeps the fee, which they don't. The fee accrue and will be used by and for the community)
- - Sky Mavis attempted to stabilize the price by introducing new features to the game, but these attempts were ineffective.
- (this is a false anecdote that can't be backed up by sources, because it's not true.)
- - leaving guild leaders without their cheap third-world labor force to grind on their behalf.
- (does this sound like an objective statement to you?) PokeMario151 (talk) 16:09, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- I don't believe adding 6 objectively factual positive statements into a sea of negatives should be seen as promotional. The end result is a perfectly balanced article on both sides. PokeMario151 (talk) 16:10, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- I am disinclined to answer your questions any further if you are going to ignore mine. MrOllie (talk) 16:13, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
- Don't think I was ignoring it lol - I don't see how that's relevant to the meat of this discussion.
- To answer your question, my involvement with the game is that I have some Axies and I've played the game before. I have friends who like Axie, and I like the team - they're good people.
- If you are setting a trap to somehow disallow me from making edits, you should ask the same question to all previous editors. Did they somehow get burned by 2021's crypto/Axie hype cycle? Is that why they choose to focus strictly on the negatives? PokeMario151 (talk) 16:21, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
