Spider-Man 3 is a video game based on the Spider-Man 3 film. It is scheduled to be released May 4, 2007.
The scenario draws from the film, Spider-Man comics and the Marvel Universe. The game will feature ten (twelve on PS2, Wii and Xbox) villains including the movie's primary villains Venom, New Goblin, and Sandman.
Gameplay
During the game, the player takes control of Spider-Man, in both his normal costume and his symbiote costume. Abilities in the game include agility and web-based attacks so that you can subdue your enemy. The game is free-roaming, as with Spider-Man 2. Also, in an interview with GameSpot, game developer Chris Archer said that Manhattan in Spider-Man 3 will be much larger than its predecessor, now includes sewers and subterranean tunnels, and is expected to be highly detailed. The game features ten villains and ten storylines. The game will not utilize a gameplay checklist, but the player can set his or her own goals and decide where to go next. The game will not feature many cutscenes but rather interactive scenes from the movie that you play through to make it feel more realistic.

Versions
Vicarious Visions and Treyarch are both developing the Spider-Man 3 videogame. Because of their different ideas for the game, the versions of the game will be different for some consoles.
PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360
The PlayStation 3 will be identical to the Xbox 360 version except for the use the SIXAXIS controller for movement control. This version of the game is being developed by Treyarch.
In this version of the game, Spider-Man will start in the red & blue costume, before switching to the black suit at a certain point. Spider-Man will remain in the black suit until a later point in the game, when the player has managed to rid him of it. Different moves will also be available whilst in the black suit.
There will also be a PS3 collector's edition that will include Spider-Man 3 movie webisodes, movie cast and crew interviews and New Goblin (Harry Osborn) as a playable character.
Wii, PlayStation 2 & PSP
Vicarious Visions is developing the game for the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. The PS2 & PSP will all receive the same game design, due to hardware limits. The Wii version will utilize its Wii Remote to perform various moves and delivers the sensation of swinging through the city via the Wii Remote and Wii Nunchuk.
The city in the PS3 version is 2.5 times larger than the city in the PS2 version of Spider-Man 3.
So far, it was realeased that these versions will have two bonus villains: Morbius and Shriek
The PSP will offer an expansive free roaming city gameplay on a portable system (which wasn't there in SM2 PSP). According to Gamestop/EB Games they will exclusively carry Spider-man 3: Special Edition for the PS2 which will include: A Bonus DVD featuring Spider-Man 3: The Story Behind the Web, an Exclusive Interview with Stan Lee, Spider-Man 3 Movie Trailers, and a Collectible Lenticular Card with an Image from the Movie.
Unlike the PS3 & Xbox 360 versions of the game, once access to the black-suited Spider-Man is gained, the player can switch between red and black suit at will. As with the PS3 and 360 versions the black-suited Spider-Man mechanics are different. Spider-Man become more powerful with the black-suit, and will have access to a "Rage" mode.
There will also be different unlockables compared to the PS3 & Xbox 360 version of the game.
Nintendo DS
Vicarious Visions is also developing the version appearing on the Nintendo DS. The DS version will use touch screen gestures for combat, webbing, and interaction. It will also lack cinteractives, and instead focus on fast action & deep combat and controls. It will also feature a free-roaming New York like the console versions, albeit slightly smaller
The black suit is handled different aswell - when Spider-Man gets angry enough he transforms into the black-suit automatically and starts to use his new abilities mid fight.
Other formats
There will also be PC and Game Boy Advance versions of the game.
Trivia
- Video game magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly was slated to have a worldwide exclusive story on the game for its October 2006 issue, going so far as to promote the exclusive in the previous issue. The issue instead shipped with a Guitar Hero II lead story, and a note from the Editor-in-Chief Dan Hsu stating that readers should "blame Sam Raimi" for the change in content. The story was actually released in its April 2007 issue.
