Broken link
Hello- your "script-assisted style changes" broke a ref link on Global Airlines. Might want to check that next time..... SurferSquall (talk) 01:41, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

Köthen
my story today |

I thought of you on the recent trip to a Bach town! - I summarised my latest vacation in images (click on songs), and my recent musical adventures can be found here. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:25, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda, I hope to visit all the Bach towns when I visit Germany (maybe 2024 or 2025). Last time I didn't make it to Köthen, shamefully. Tony (talk) 05:00, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
Strange "inter" correction
Your script-assisted edit here did good work in removing overlink and fixing dashes, but also changed the "Inter" of Inter Milan to "inter" for no apparent reason. A bug perhaps, or is it supposed to identify 'incorrectly capitalised words' and doesn't scan nearby words of 'likely exceptions' ? Kingsif (talk) 13:01, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- It was my manual change, not the script. I took "Inter" to mean "between" in the biographical narrative to come. Now I realise it's shorthand for a football club. I've clarified this in the heading. Tony (talk) 04:58, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
- It's not shorthand, it's the name. "the Inter Milan club" is also a bizarre phrasing ("the Manchester United club"? No.) - sure, not everyone has heard of football clubs, but since the original phrasing was "Early life and Inter Milan" and the body text said "Having first joined Inter Milan on trial", most could work out that it is one. (side note: you really thought that "early life and 'between' Milan" was a suitable header anyway?) Kingsif (talk) 20:37, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
- I couldn't decipher it. It's not a well-written article. Tony (talk) 01:23, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) I looked at this article out of curiosity, and tend to agree with the OP (I've heard of "Inter Milan"), but I'm mildly amused to see that none of the editors fretting about this article seems to use the brilliant little gadget which makes dab pages display in orange. I'll tag
- under-19 squad with {{dn}} because it's not clear to me how to link it. PamD 05:07, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Good, thanks. I had to click on a link within the section to find out whether it is part of a name, and not one of the many incorrectly upcased words we come across in titles. A reader should not have to click a link to work out what a section title means. Tony (talk) 05:10, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- I added her to Dragoni (disambiguation), and tweaked that page, too. Another little rabbit hole! PamD 05:19, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

dmy
Hi, I don't understand why this article needs to use dmy dates. Is there a specific reason? HueSurname (talk) 17:44, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry, my mistake. I've moved it to mdy. Tony (talk) 00:43, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Since the article has no national ties, which is preferable? HueSurname (talk) 01:26, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
(My) Abshir Omar Huruse listing issue
Hello Tony1, I hope you're doing well 🙂 I wanted to ask you a question about the article Abshir Omar Huruse, which I have primarily contributed to and which you recently helped fix styling issues within (and thank you for that!). This is nothing to do with your edit, but seeing as you have now viewed the article, I have a question I have been meaning to ask a better editor about. The vast majority of the article's information (and the accompanying citations) are a list of the diplomatic meetings that Huruse has took part in during his time as Minister of Foreign Affairs for Somalia. I started listing these meetings when Huruse first entered office and there wasn't that much stuff to cover the make the article more complete, but now, like previously mentioned, this is about 75% of the article. Furthermore, with the largely unstable political situation in Somalia being the way it is, it is unclear when he will leave office, meaning it is highly likely that the article will continue to increase in length if I continue to update it with his meetings. What I wanted to ask was, is this even proper formatting? Should articles go on this long as primarily a list, or should it all be deleted? If I were to remove it all, the accompanying map on the side of the article, which visualizes where he has held meetings on a world map, would be uncited, which I want to avoid doing as that is arguably the most useful information at a glance I have made about current Somalian diplomacy. Do you have any insight on this issue? If you don't, that's cool, but I thought I'd at least give it a try as I'm concerned about what to do from here. Cheers! Johnson524 (Talk!) 02:07, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- I think you're right. Tony (talk) 02:33, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Right about what exactly? Sorry, Johnson524 (Talk!) 02:37, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- I see no need to make major changes. Given that Somalia is an unstable part of the world, it could be useful to have referenced meetings with "Somalia's allies", if indeed they are all allies. I'm glad you'll be around to keep updating the article. Tony (talk) 03:51, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for saying that, I'll be sure to continue to update it. Cheers! Johnson524 (Talk!) 17:27, 17 July 2023 (UTC)

In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Misplaced Pages's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Misplaced Pages's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! United States
Hi, Tony1.
Re your delinking at List of ships named United States, I am very familiar with the guidance at WP:LINK, and that it is liberally sprinked with "generally". In this case, the link is a definitional in the standard Lead for "List of Ships named..." articles, giving a clear indication of what is covered. That is why I referred to "context" in my edit summary. I am sure that amongst the 1.1 million direct inward links from other articles to United States (covering Alabama to United States Armed Forces and beyond) there are others where such a link is useful and informative to readers - each to be considered on its merits.
Cheers, Davidships (talk) 11:32, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi David: which brings me to the question of why the article starts with a clunky circular statement: "A number of ships have been named United States, after the United States." I mean, why the last four words? "A number of ships have been named United States." would be much better, no? Tony (talk) 13:18, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
