Short descriptions of musicals and plays

Hi. Thanks for adding short descriptions. Please note that short descriptions of plays and musicals should not be identified by the year, since they can be revived over and over again, and the year of writing, publication and premiere can all be different. It is better to identify them by the authors: for example: "Musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein". Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 23:24, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

Ok, thanks for letting me know :) RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 23:46, 4 December 2022 (UTC)

GOCE copy edit of High Speed 2

Hello, RadioactiveBoulevardier. This is a courtesy notice that the copy edit you requested for High Speed 2 at the Guild of Copy Editors requests page is now complete. All feedback welcome! Dhtwiki (talk) 03:33, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

Peace dollar

I noticed that you removed the Peace dollar from Template:US commemorative coinage (1920s). I've reverted your edit as it was a circulating commemorative. According to Q. David Bowers, it was designed to commemorate the end of WWI. While not a traditional US commemorative coin, the series of navboxes covers all US commemorative coins, including circulating coins such as the 50 State quarters, Presidential dollar coins, and Peace dollars. - ZLEA T\ 17:10, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

Pakubuwono X

It would be fine if Java had one palace/realm of hereditary rulers as you put it, but in a general sense of Javanese history there could be up to 6 different 'realms', but then the generic name of the rulers 'pakubuwono' is usually instantly recognised, as well as the location 'surakarta' - ruling dates are ambiguous as that is in the western calendar - javanese have their own calendar. Also what you replaced is short of not letting an 'outsider' know where or when, so the balance - as I am sure you would agree - in a short description - enough to identify where and when - of perhaps the most recognisable ruler of the 20th century, not just due to his vast progeny or his own girth in later age - I would say that there are better ways a short description might help the ruler of big stats but nevertheless short in stature when standing next to his dutch overlords - but I or a jury might be out for a while for a compromise of a description that is required... They are never worth worrying about, the potential for others to revert/adjust/change is always high, but then javanese pride is something that is always circumspect, quiet, and usually with little give-away clues, likely to recover... The potential synonyms for aspects of javanese history are in themselves almost an article's worth of explanation and between the line elaboration anyways. JarrahTree 01:32, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

CE template on Kinburn Spit

Hello RadioactiveBoulevardier, I hope you're doing well. I see you added a CE template to the Kinburn Spit article. I appreciate your recent edits to the article, but what still needs copy editing exactly so I know how to fix the article? Thanks! Johnson524 (Talk!) 02:24, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi! I hope you're doing well too.
I think I caught most of the technical grammar/usage issues, but I think the cohesion, tone, or style could still use some polishing.
RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 02:47, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Wow, thank you for the quick response! I'm really sorry, but I'm kind of a newbie at this 😅 I'm looking at the linked Misplaced Pages:Basic copyediting page, but it only talks about style specifically. Tone is pretty self-explanatory, but I'm having trouble seeing how to make the page more cohesive. Could you help explain this a little more? Sorry you bother you again, Johnson524 (Talk!) 04:02, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
I may need a day or two to get back to you with a full answer, but the basic process is to scan the text for issues and fix them. There's a hierarchy of potential issues ranging in subtlety and complexity, from a really obvious spelling error to, say, layout issues.
This might help: https://www.wikihow.com/Copy-Edit
RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 04:22, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
I appreciate the link. I'll see what I can do, but if you could keep the page on your watchlist that would be helpful. Cheers! Johnson524 (Talk!) 04:30, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Maxim Litvinov

Hello, RadioactiveBoulevardier. This is a courtesy notice that the copy edit you requested for Maxim Litvinov at the Guild of Copy Editors requests page is now complete. All feedback welcome! Cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:27, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
Hi RadioactiveBoulevardier, this article is fairly large so it will take me at least a few days to copy-edit. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 06:35, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks!!
Yeah I know, I already did bits and pieces but it needs a complete facelift. There's a reason I made a special request instead of just tagging it lol. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 06:39, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
Well I don't do complete facelifts; think of my work more as a spa treatment than plastic surgery! :) Cheers, Baffle☿gab 00:42, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
I've now finished the c/e; I've moved a fair chunk of material to the talk page—my reasoning is there and in my edit summaries. I suspect much of the material was cut and pasted from sources but I'm not going out of my way to investigate. Even after my Great Purge (see what i did there?), I think the material in the section "Negotiations regarding Germany and dismissal" needs merging and condensing; there's a lot of overlap with the Second World War text and that in other sections. Other improvements you could make are adding citations to the text I've marked with {{cn}} templates; adding context to names where I've added {{who}} templates, and generally making the article more readable. I've done the spa treatment! Good luck with it and cheers, Baffle☿gab 02:27, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
Thanks!
Yeah, there were way too many block quotes in the article. I did some preliminary cutting in the beginning, but I was pretty conservative about removing material.
Now I have to bring the article into a coherent and concise state so that it's actually understandable :| RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 02:31, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
It is a bit of a challenge, my tip would be to think of what a reader would want to know; then rearrange the material in chronological order; there's a lot of stuff about the war and the Nazi invasion of the USSR to be collated. It will make an interesting read, anyway. :) Cheers, Baffle☿gab 08:06, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
got it, ty RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 17:54, 17 March 2023 (UTC) RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 17:54, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

() Just a quick heads-up; the article may have problems with overuse of a self-published source. I've just noticed a thread at AN/I regarding one of the article's major sources, which turns out to be a self-published work. permalink. Cheers, Baffle☿gab 15:22, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Omg wow. Bloody hell. Thanks again for the heads up. This is obviously a medium-term project.
Also, do you know if there's a WikiProject dedicated to improving the usage of sources? RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 20:21, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I was rather surprised to find that thread today, so soon after my c/e. A lot of articles using that source may need to be partly rewritten. I found Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Citation cleanup and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Reliability, both of which seem to be at least semi-active. Cleanup may be useful as well, or you may like to peruse this page for a list of WikiProjects. Hopefully, the fallout from this will be limited. Good luck and cheers, Baffle☿gab 22:40, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Cool thanks. It's not good that this took years to get flagged. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 23:31, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Formatting date ranges in short descriptions

Hello, thanks for tweaking short descriptions, like you did at the E. D. Nixon article. However, Misplaced Pages uses en dashes rather than hyphens in date ranges (e.g. 1899–1987). I notice from your edit tags that you're using iOS ... you can hold down the hyphen on your keyboard and you'll get a choice of which dash to use, as described at Misplaced Pages:How to make dashes § iOS and Android. It's not ultimately a huge deal ... the hyphens will be fixed in due course ... but it's worth being aware of. Graham87 14:40, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi! I actually do most of my edits on desktop browser.
I agree that it's worth being aware of, and I suppose I must pay due homage to MoS, but especially in a short description (where every pixel matters) I don't think it's a big deal compared to RS concerns, weasel words, or malapropisms.
Rest assured that a collection of neurons will be organized into an interdepartmental committee to examine the issue in due course. I will also discuss the issue with a family member who does a lot of professional CE and is a stickler about en and em dashes. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 20:31, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Also, I just wanted to say thank you for making me think afresh about the inherently WP:POV (in an abstract philosophical sense) way I see the world. I now have deep questions about my own mental model of the world where previously there was only passing speculation.
Everything we perceive is really just circuitry in our brain that draws on outside signals and processes it in surprisingly nontrivial ways.
I've been good about en-dashes almost all of the time so far today. And tbh I'm still discovering all the different characters I can access on my keyboard (I also have RU and DE kbds). Don't tell anyone, but this is the first "real" smartphone I've ever had.

Restrictions for non-ECP users - Russo-Ukrainian War

Answering your question here rather than at the TP since the discussion has otherwise died and there is no action at ANI (see here). The "rule" is per WP:GS/RUSUKR. Adding NATO support for Ukraine is not a project discussion that specifically excludes. However, WP:FORUM and personal attacks are disruptive and could reasonably be acted on. Got it, thanks. Why do people even care so much about a bloody infobox? RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 15:21, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
Buggered if I know. I can only think that they want to write the article in the infobox, which is precisely what we are told not to do. It would be so much easier if the article didn't have an infobox - at least until the dust settles. Regards Cinderella157 (talk) 22:40, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
I suppose you could nominate the template for deletion to see what happens. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 01:14, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
It is a thought, though it would probably need to be an RfC. It is presently a stand-alone template rather than Template:infobox military conflict. It has actually been nominated for deletion several times on the basis that it shouldn't be a standalone - which is a substantially different proposition from not using the infobox at all for the present. Cinderella157 (talk) 01:43, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Howard Florey

I don't normally pay any heed to edits of the short description since they are inane but before making this edit did you read the article? Like the part where it says Florey was not a pathologist? Hawkeye7 (discuss) 08:18, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

@David dclork li, that revision doesn’t appear to be vandalism. Can you explain what all the fuss is about? RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 20:35, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
This anonymous user had recently removed some of the sentence and said it's unsourced but he himself added some sentence in that article with has no reference at all.If I was wrong about this edit then i apologise it but he has edited it without providing any citation David dclork li (talk) 20:44, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Civil-military observer

The Civil-military observer performs functions which are close to the capabilities described in the redacted edit. The difference is that rather than attaches, the observers are civilians. Where might this redacted information go? What article? I will watch this page. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 08:04, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

I suppose it could get processed and integrated into the main invasion article, although to be honest, the last thing we need is more quotations from talking heads. In any event, I don't really follow your explanation about observers, and it definitely isn't a good fit for the lead of the foreign involvement article. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 08:20, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Based on this response I will create a sub-heading in the foreign involvement article as a part of the training efforts. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 12:08, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Not sure what the point is, but anyway the article needs a lot of work on both layout and coherence so I'm sure the eventual finished product won't have any serious issues. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 12:53, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
RUSI has clearly documented the neglect of the non-commissioned officer in the Russian army. Compare to mission command. -- Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 13:15, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
I still don’t really see the logical chain of relevance. Are you suggesting that RUSI’s public commentary is a form of assistance to Ukraine? I don’t get it. RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 13:19, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
The Russian army is incompetent; RUSI explains this. -- Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 13:21, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
But how is that relevant to that particular article? RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 13:25, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
The Russian army is expert at providing stories, but not intelligent capabilities, so it has wasted its manpower and materiel on despoiling Ukraine, rather than reaching a position of relative advantage. When individual nations provide materiel, training, and intelligence to Ukraine, Ukraine can then use its manpower to push back. Its non-commissioned officers, for example can use their own initiative rather than wait for top-down commands. --Ancheta Wis   (talk | contribs) 13:35, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Ninja presence in Russia

Hello, RadioactiveBoulevardier,

There is no requirement that sources for an article need to be in English so that is not a strong argument to make for deleting an article. It's easier for most editors if sources are in English and available to examine online but that is not a requirement for the sources to be considered reliable. It looks like this article will probably be deleted any way but I just wanted to point this out. Thank you for your work on the project. Liz 17:42, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Good to know, thanks!
But my argument was that notability hadn't been demonstrated through significant coverage in EN sources. Is it not a requirement for the significant coverage to be in English? RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 19:52, 7 June 2023 (UTC)

Tartan

Please do not significantly trim in that article. See talk page; it is being prepared for splitting into several articles, so it has some reduncancy and some drill-down detail in it on purpose.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  00:08, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

PS: See also recent RfC'ed changes to MOS:DL. The new norm is to link once per section, so a lot of your delinking is not helpful.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  00:17, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
Please do not delete entire paragraphs of reliably sourced material without a consensus discussion. And please also do not remove HTML comments from articles that indicate things like what links to a particular section; they are there for a reason. And see MOS:REDLINK: red links have been found to be a driving force that encourages contributions ... Legitimate red links are titles to unfulfilled coverage of topics that do not violate "What Misplaced Pages is not" policy. Everything in that article that is redlinked is something that should be an article (i.e., is notable and for which there is sufficient reliable source coverage to write an article about it/them). If the {{crossreference}} template was meant for you to delete it willy-nilly, the template would not exist. And don't remove blue links to contextually important terms and probably unfamiliar places. Deleting all the links to the clan names was contextually just outright harmful. Frankly, very little of that editing pass you did was actually constructive.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  06:39, 4 August 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Misplaced Pages’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Misplaced Pages administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Misplaced Pages;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Also, I see you have a 'don't template me' banner, unfortunately CT is quite strict and the only way I can inform you is with a template. ––FormalDude (talk) 00:05, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
