Development
Following the commercial success of Udhabaani (2009), director Amjad Ibrahim and producer Hamid Ali decided to develop a sequel to it and started working on budget aquisition and on drafted possible premises in 2013. Ibrahim planned to start filming for Udhabaani 2 in mid 2017 after completing the project he was working on titled Dheythee Aniyaa. However, considering several delays in pre-production and considering his prior commitments to other films, pre-production of Udhabaani 2 was delayed indefinitely. Mohamed Gasim, who wrote the story of its first installment was hired to write the plotline of its sequel. The story for the sequel was being developed with the possibility of it returning for a third installment. Hussain Sobah was hired as the music composer similar to its prequel. By 2017, Sobah composed five original songs including the theme song. The film was officially re-launched in July 2023 with a new cast.
Casting
In 2020, director Amjad Ibrahim announced that Yoosuf Shafeeu will be seen in the role role along with Hamid Ali even though Amira Ismail would be replaced by a new actress as the former is currently away from films. However, as the project got further deyaled, Ibrahim and producer Hamid Ali, yet again approached Yoosuf Shafeeu and Amira Ismail to reprise their role in Udhabaani 2. However, as the screenplay follows an instant continuation from the events that took place in the first installment, and considering the physique of the original actors during the twelve years gap, they rejected the film and insisted on taking new actors to reprise their role. The new cast of the film was announced in July 2023 as Ahmed Easa, Aminath Shuha, Ali Azim, Nathasha Jaleel, Ali Shameel, Mariyam Shakeela and Mariyam Haleem while Hamid Ali was confirmed to reprise his role.
Filming
Initially, Ibrahim planned to finalize the cast and start filming after Ramazan of 2020. However, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the project was halted and several changes were required to make for the casting prior to re-working on the film. The crew departed to R. Maakurathu on 10 July 2022 to commence filming. Filming was completed in September 2023.
