Afro House (also spelled as Afro house or Afro-house) is a sub-genre of electronic and dance - house music mainly developed as well as engraved with root origins in South Africa. Comparable to other similar South African sub-genres such as, afro tech the genre's prominence became pre-eminent in the 2000s and has developed over the years.

Characteristics

The sub-genre is principally a blend of traditional house, kwaito, deep house, tribal house and soulful house. Inclusive of various South African languages or often described as 'soulful',vocals.

Musical structure

Alongside the components of tribal house there exists ,the most predominant tempo in music, commonly known as allegro. The BPM shifts from 80 to 122 and on occasion, 124. Music software as well as actual typical instruments used are snares,high-hats, congas, shakers and kick drums.

History

The exact origin year as well as city is debatable and adjudged to various narratives. It is thought to have already seeded in the early 90s due to the heavy presence of House and Kwaito, locally. In the 2000s ,the sub-genre seemed to have developed and become widely oustpread in various parts of South Africa, such as Durban, Soweto, Pretoria and Cape Town. Subsequently becoming popularized in international regions such as the United States, South America, Europe and Asia.

Ostensibly before it was 'officially' named and categorized as a sub-genre,it was just referred to as still, 'House'. There are early traces of the genre having being popularized in Angola alongside South Africa's timeline due to the local dance culture attributed to Kuduro and the slight however far different, resemblance..
