Hindu brahmin caste
Jangid is a Hindu Brahmin surname of Rajasthan origin.
Jangid, also known as Jangid Brahmin, is a subcaste of the Gaur (गौड़) Brahmins. They are descendants of Rishi Angira (one of the Saptrishi, a human son of Lord Brahma).
Khatis also use the surname but are not Brahmins and Gaur Brahmins who use Jangid as surname both are different community. Jangid are Brahmins from Rajasthan. They have a notable presence in the states of Haryana, Rajasthan (63%) and Punjab and their traditional occupation was that of making temples and carving. Today, the Jangid Brahmins in Rajasthan are usually known for making painting of temples and worshipping. and decorative works such as making seats or chariots for religious figurines.
