Columbus Ga Vipers are a professional basketball team based in Columbus, Georgia, competing in the Pro Basketball Association (PBA). The Vipers compete year-round, playing in the summer and winter PBA seasons. The Vipers play home games at Kenneth B. Walker Gymnasium (KBW), in Columbus, Ga. The Vipers have been nationally ranked since the PBA inaugural season and are the 2023 Summer Season National Champions. The Vipers are also 2x Eastern Conference Champions and 4x Southeast Regional Champions.
History
The owner and previous head coach of the Columbus Ga Vipers, Angela Culliver, established the Vipers in September 2021, rebranding the Columbus Blackhawks and the Georgia Hornets into the powerhouse Columbus Ga Vipers.. A separation between co-owners of the team sparked the rebranding of the Columbus Blackhawks. The Georgia Hornets competed in the Minor League Basketball Association (MLBA) in the summer 2018. Also, the team competed in the American Basketball Association (ABA) as the Columbus Blackhawks during the falls of 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 before the owners separated. The Vipers would compete year-round once the PBA announced the hosting of a summer and winter season. The organization competed in the PBA as the Columbus Blackhawks in the inaugural season. The current head coach of the Vipers is Dr. Tasha Mahone.
2021 Summer Season:
The Columbus Ga Vipers competed in the PBA as the Columbus Blackhawks before the rebranding to the current name. The Blackhawks finished Nationally Ranked at #3 during the inaugural season of the PBA and finished as Southeast Regional Champions defeating Music City Jazz 116-97 on September 5, 2021. The Blackhawks fell short in the semi-finals of the Final Four in Dallas, Texas, losing to the New York Generals 114-97. The Columbus Blackhawks finished with a record of 12-3.
2022 Summer Season:
The Columbus Ga Vipers finished the season with a 12-1 record and again Southeast Regional Champions, defeating the Dothan Snipers 104-82 to advance to the Final Four. For the second consecutive season, the Vipers fell short in the Final Four in Dallas, Texas, failing to punch their ticket to the National Championship. The Vipers were defeated by the NM Bluetails 86-97. The Vipers would finish with an overall record of 12-2 and nationally ranked 3rd for the second consecutive season.
2022-2023 Winter Season:
The Vipers started the season with a chip on their shoulders. They were more determined to punch their ticket to the P.B.A. National Championship, making a statement on opening night, defeating River Region Generals 134-80. Starting the season on a tear, the Vipers would beat teams by significant deficits, such as Southwest Florida Blazers and Tennessee Speed. The Vipers would defeat the Blazers 104-94 and the Tennessee Speed 158-104. After winning the Southeast Regional Championship for the third consecutive season, the Vipers enter Dallas, Texas, on a mission. The Vipers first appeared in the national championship after defeating the K.D.C. Bombers 121-101. The Reigning Champions Fort Worth F.I.R.M. would dominate the Vipers in the national championship, leaving Texas as the P.B.A. Eastern Conference Champions. The Vipers fell short of their overall objective, finishing the season with a 16-2 record and nationally ranked #2.
2023 Summer Season
The Columbus Georgia Vipers enter the 2023 PBA Summer Season with a chip on their shoulders, fighting to prove themselves worthy of being crowned champions. The Vipers enter the off-season attacking workouts as Dr. Tasha Mahone steps into her new role as head coach. The Vipers finished the regular season nationally ranked number 1, again making it to the National Championship Game, held in Columbus, Ga. The Vipers would defeat the PNW Vets 116-110, crowning them the 2023 PBA Summer Season National Champions after a stellar performance from Finals MVP Cornelius Thomas, Alquan Mendenhall, and Cortez Chaney.
2023-2024 Winter Season
The Columbus Georgia Vipers begin the 2023-2024 PBA Winter Season exactly where they left off, on a tear, starting the season red hot. The Vipers, led by a bundle of veteran players are swiping through the PBA with vengeance, aiming to capture the title back-to-back.
