Thank you for closing this discussion, but I was hoping you would reconsider your closure. In it, three editors supported the move and two editors opposed, and if the arguments were of equal weight I would agree that a no consensus result would be reasonable, but they weren't. In particular, the argument {{tq|The most reliable source (NZGB gazetteer via Toitū te Whenua/LINZ) gives the name as Taukihepa / Big South Cape Island per https://gazetteer.linz.govt.nz/place/5838}} has no basis in policies or guidelines; a single source is never sufficient to determine what the common name is, particularly when that single source is from the entity that determines what the official name is - to give a single source such weight would overturn our preference for using the common name over the official name. ] (]) 03:45, 30 December 2023 (UTC) |

Talk:Taukihepa / Big South Cape Island#Requested move 10 December 2023
Thank you for closing this discussion, but I was hoping you would reconsider your closure. In it, three editors supported the move and two editors opposed, and if the arguments were of equal weight I would agree that a no consensus result would be reasonable, but they weren't. In particular, the argument The most reliable source (NZGB gazetteer via Toitū te Whenua/LINZ) gives the name as Taukihepa / Big South Cape Island per https://gazetteer.linz.govt.nz/place/5838
has no basis in policies or guidelines; a single source is never sufficient to determine what the common name is, particularly when that single source is from the entity that determines what the official name is - to give a single source such weight would overturn our preference for using the common name over the official name.
