On February 1, 2005, it was announced that Stepehen Mayne had sold Crikey to Private Media Partners, another independent media operator in Australia most widely known for their former publication The Eye. The sale, when complete, will be for $A 1m (approximately $US 700,000). Mayne will continue to write for Crikey. | ||

Crikey is an Australian independent online news service run by Stephen Mayne, a journalist and former staffer of Victorian premier, Jeff Kennett.
Well known in Australian political and media cricles, and with an A-list of readers, crikey.com.au has been more influential than its relatively low subscriber base suggests. Prepared to give opinions the mainstream media won't, and to reveal political, business and media gossip and facts that the mainstream can't, Crikey has at times led the way; and at other times faced lawsuits.
