This page in a nutshell: For the safety and well-being of the overall Misplaced Pages community, attack sites should neither be linked to or promoted |
Attack sites are wesites outside of Misplaced Pages that are used to facilitate, promote, enable, or encourage, the harassment of individual Misplaced Pages editors. Harassment of those who chose to edit the encyclopedia is a serious matter. These websites' activities include the posting of harassing comments, physical threats, libel, and defamation, as well as attempts to 'out' the private identities of Wikipedians.
For the safety and well-being of the overall Misplaced Pages community, attack sites should not be linked to, and never promoted.
What is an attack site?
For the purposes of Misplaced Pages policies, rules, and procedures, in regard specifically to Misplaced Pages contributors, an attack site is a site outside wikipedia that engages in any of the following:
- Harassment of Wikipedians.
- Legal threats toward Wikipedians.
- Defamation of Wikipedians.
- Where some of the web site content is dedicated to any of the above, but is not removed, the site likely is an attack site.
For purposes of deciding what is an 'attack site', there is no difference if it is a web site run by one individual (such as a private website, or a blog), a virtual community (such as another Wiki, or a message board/forum). The site can still be considered an 'attack site' for engaging in the above actions, either directly, indirectly, or by condoning it by neglecting to remove or police it. On the other hand while many attacks are made daily against Misplaced Pages editors on Misplaced Pages itself due to the policy that almost anyone can edit almost any page, for the purposes of this proposed policy Misplaced Pages is not considered an attack site as these attacks must already be removed according to wikipedia policy.
Dealing with attack site links, promotion, or content
At any time, links to, promotion of, or imported material from any qualifying attack site may be reverted by any user reversion, not subject to WP:3RR limitations. Re-inserting such material, if inappropriately done, is still bound to 3RR and any other policies on editing. Eliminating such hostile or endangering content is not vandalism or a violation of 3RR.
Linking to or promoting attack sites
Per policy, precedent, and commonly accepted procedure, linking to such sites directly, indirectly, or to 'lead' people to them is serious matter, which is a potentially blockable offense. Promoting such websites is no different from linking to them. Countering removal of content that is harassing, or removal of links to such content, may be a blockable offense.
Removing attack site links and promotion
When found, a qualifying attack web site link or promotion of the same should be removed. If on a user page, as a courtesy, leave the user a note explaining why it was removed. If found in article space, or in archives, removing it with an edit summary note should be sufficient.
Importing content from attack sites
Obviously, this is a serious offense, and not acceptable, and may be countered by any user as a vandalism or BLP reversion.
Blacklisting
Particularly virulent, deplorable, or hostile web sites may be placed on the spam blacklist for the safety and well-being of all Misplaced Pages users.

Previous concensus, rulings, practice
- Any user, including an administrator using administrative powers, may remove or otherwise defeat attempts at harassment of a user. This includes harassment directed at the user themselves.
- Links to attack sites may be removed by any user; such removals are exempt from 3RR. Deliberately linking to an attack site may be grounds for blocking.
- Users who link to webpages which attack or harass other users or to sites which regularly engage in such activity are responsible for their actions.
- A website that engages in the practice of publishing private information concerning the identities of Misplaced Pages participants will be regarded as an attack site whose pages should not be linked to from Misplaced Pages pages under any circumstances.
