On 13 October 2024, a drone launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon crashed near the town of Binyamina, Israel. The attack injured at least 67 military personnel, including four in critical condition. The attack, part of a larger rocket barrage, saw two drones deployed, with one intercepted over the sea while the other penetrated into Israeli territory.
No alarms were triggered, and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are investigating the lack of warning signals. Medical teams responded swiftly, airlifting several of the critically injured to Sheba and Rambam Medical Centers. The attack occurred amid the escalating Israel–Hezbollah conflict, which in previous months witnessed a series of Israeli airstrikes that decimated much of Hezbollah's senior leadership, including Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. Moreover, its military arsenal and infrastructure were significantly degraded by airstrikes and a ground operation officially aimed at weaken Hezbollah and push it from the Israeli-Lebanese border.
Strike
On October 13, 2024, a drone launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon entered Israeli airspace and fired a missile at the target before crashing near the town of Binyamina, located in the Haifa District of Israel. The incident resulted in injuries to at least 67 people, with four individuals reported in critical condition. Medical teams, including a helicopter, were dispatched to the scene to evacuate and provide emergency care to the wounded. Israeli Channel 12 reported that Hezbollah successfully deceived the Israeli air defense system by firing a barrage of missile to cover the drone.
During the attack, three drones were launched from Lebanon; two of the drones were intercepted, while one managed to penetrate deep into Israeli territory, crashing in the Binyamina area. The drone incursion occurred without the activation of alarm systems that would normally signal such an attack. In a separate statement, Hezbollah said it targeted the Tsnobar logistics base in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the drone strike and said it was in response to the Israeli airstrike on Bachoura on 10 October that killed 22 Lebanese people and injured another 117. Hezbollah said it targeted a training camp for the Israel Defense Forces' Golani Brigade.
Casualties
Three Israelis were killed and at least 67 were wounded as a result of the attack. Magen David Adom (the Israeli medical service, or MDA) reported that four people were critically injured, five seriously, and 14 moderately. Three of the injured were airlifted to Sheba Medical Center, while two were taken to Rambam Health Care Campus. An additional 28 victims were transported to various hospitals by ambulance.
According to Israel Army Radio, three people died in the attack.
