Category:Pitcairn Islands people convicted of rape
- Nominator's rationale: I think we should broaden this category because there's no parent category Pitcairn Islands criminals, and I think that creating a parent category right now would just be redudant Mason (talk) 01:04, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think the category is legitimate, although there are questions about what categories it should be under. I now think it shouldn't be under "British people convicted of rape" because people from the British Overseas Territories aren't classified as British people on Misplaced Pages, there are various categories relating to these territories. PatGallacher (talk) 13:52, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Merge to Category:Pitcairn Islands criminals and Category:Sex offenders from British Overseas Territories. Pitcairn Islands the least populous territory in the world, with only 35 people as of the latest census. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 19:53, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

- Keep The islands have/had a particular issue with sexual offences, with three in it now all senior administrators. So set up Category:Pitcairn Islands criminals, or leave it as itis. Johnbod (talk) 03:34, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Category:Bantu
- Propose renaming Category:Bantu to Category:?
- Nominator's rationale: Bantu does not have a primary topic so a better title for this category should be used. Maybe Bantu (culture)? Open to suggestions. Gonnym (talk) 13:57, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Downmerge to Category:Bantu peoples, everything Bantu must refer to these peoples. But add a special sort key to the articles and subcategories so that they will appear on top, before all individual peoples. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:45, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

- Thanks for the ping. Yeah, I'm fine with that suggestion. Gonnym (talk) 08:15, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Category:Free compilers and interpreters
- Propose deleting Category:Compilers and interpreters
- Propose splitting Category:Free compilers and interpreters to Category:Free and open source compilers and Category:Free and open source interpreters
- Nominator's rationale: Category:Compilers and interpreters is basically a hybrid of Category:Compilers and Category:Interpreters (computing). The overwhelming majority of articles only fit in one category, and the few that don't can be in both categories. Category:Free compilers and interpreters should be split into two new categories for the same reason. I also propose adding "open source" to the names of the new categories, since that's what the current category is being used for, and just "free" is vague. Zerbu 13:09, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Question: with this proposal, what should happen with the six articles that are currently in Category:Compilers and interpreters? Marcocapelle (talk) 15:53, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- They'd probably go into one of the parent categories, Category:Compilers or Category:Interpreters (computing). Although, judging by a quick skim through the articles, they appear to all be compilers with no mention of any interpreters, so I don't know how it's supposed to be different from Category:Compilers. Zerbu 17:03, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, so that will be a merge instead of deletion. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:50, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

Zerbu 17:03, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- Split Category:Free compilers and interpreters per nom, or else rename to Category:Free programming language implementations or similar. I think Category:Foos and Bars titles should be avoided whenever possible. They lead to issues like this one:Why is Category:Compilers and interpreters a subcategory of Category:Compilers and of Category:Interpreters (computing)? That's completely backwards! Its handful of direct members are already in the appropriate subcategories of Category:Programming tools, and we're splitting its sole subcategory; I don't see any reason to merge instead of delete. jlwoodwa (talk) 16:44, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

- I guess we all agree that the categories are redundant. The only question I had was about 6 left-over articles, they apparently need to be moved to compilers. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:09, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Category:Joseon scholar-officials
- Propose splitting Category:Joseon scholar-officials to Category:Joseon scholars and Category:Joseon government officials
- Nominator's rationale: I think we should split this category, as a non-defining intersection. There's no parent scholar-officials Mason (talk) 02:44, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- Comment, there is also an article Scholar-official. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:27, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

- I am going to oppose on the basis of WP:OVERLAPCAT, this proposal will result in two categories with almost the same content. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:47, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. These people aren't 'officials', and they aren't 'scholars'. They are the ruling people, a social cast mostly hereditary, using the examination system as a "just cause" for their power. The compound word "scholar-officials" is the usual scholarly denomination for these people. Pldx1 (talk) 21:31, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Category:Shanghai Nobel laureates
- Propose merging Category:Shanghai Nobel laureates to Category:Chinese Nobel laureates

- Merge per nom. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:48, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

- Propose deleting Category:Kyrgyzstani families (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Propose deleting Category:Amirov brothers (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: I don't see the point of such a small category for navigating between two people. The article on one brother points to the other brother, and vice versa. Geschichte (talk) 07:38, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Category:NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament Final Four venues
- Nominator's rationale: Per WP:OCVENUE. This is a clear example of sorting a venue by an event it hosted. User:Namiba 22:59, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Category:Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets basketball venues
- Nominator's rationale: A small category which does not help navigation. All articles are already in basketball venues category so a dual merge is not needed. User:Namiba 22:47, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
Category:God in art
- Propose renaming Category:God in art to Category:God of Christianity in art
- Nominator's rationale: This category appears to be specific to the Christian god, but God is about the general concept, the article about the specific deity is at God in Christianity. Category:Christian god (or Category:Christian God?) might be better titles than my first suggestion, I'm not sure, but I do think specificity is needed. Other parts of the category tree might need to be looked at if consensus is to rename this one (e.g. it has parents Category:God in culture but Category:Gods in art). Thryduulf (talk) 22:15, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- I created the category for art of any religion's version of God, which fits into the category Category:God in culture. Currently, all the contents appear to be Christian. The question would be are there any artistic depections of God from other religions, such as Judaism? If there are, I don't see the point in narrowing the scope of this category, though the different religions could be separated into their own subcategories. Mclay1 (talk) 23:58, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Support Category:Gods in art of course has large numbers of depictions of deities from other religions, with the Indian, Norse and Greco-Romans the most numerous. But oddly it doesn't include this category, as you say all Christian. Hand of God (art) is about as far as you get in Judaism. Johnbod (talk) 03:29, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Probably Buddhist art should be added to Category:Gods in art; we have lots of that too. Johnbod (talk) 04:22, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Support, well summarized by Johnbod. Randy Kryn (talk) 03:38, 22 October 2024 (UTC)

Category:Ambassadors of the United Kingdom to Cape Verde
- Nominator's rationale: Category containing a single article for someone who served as a non-resident ambassador. Pointless and unhelpful for navigation. AusLondonder (talk) 14:41, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

- Nominator's rationale: This is not a people category per WP:COPSEP. Subcat can then be added to Category:Archaeologists by region of study. --woodensuperman 12:56, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

- Propose renaming Category:Albury, New South Wales to Category:Albury
- Nominator's rationale: Rename to match the main article Albury. While there are a number of very small towns and villages of the same name, none of these have categories and several of them have less than 100 residents. Albury is the overwhelmingly clear primary topic. AusLondonder (talk) 12:49, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Support, with subcats added. Of the entries at Albury (disambiguation), only Albury, Oxfordshire lists a notable person from there (who worked there as Rector for ≤12 years), so there is no competition to establish a "People from Albury" category. – Fayenatic London 12:31, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Category:Ardglen, New South Wales

Category:GMA Network personalities
- Propose merging Category:GMA Network personalities to Category:GMA Network people
- Nominator's rationale: "Personalities" is redundant with people. There is no reason to have this category which implies to cover "actors and singers" when "people" apply just fine. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 09:06, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- The merge target is probably meant to be Category:GMA Network (company) people. Marcocapelle (talk) 17:37, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Category:Fiction about sexuality
- Propose renaming Category:Fiction about sexuality to Category:Fiction and sexuality or Category:Sexuality and fiction
- Nominator's rationale: It was speedy renamed without discussion. Some articles are about Sexuality in fiction but they are not technically Fiction about sexuality. So my proposal is to include both cases, as the scope of this was never discussed officially (or did anyone talk about it anywhere?). Web-julio (talk) 06:08, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose this way, the proposal is a too vague target. For topic articles about sexuality in fiction we may recreate Category:Sexuality in fiction as parent of Category:Fiction about sexuality. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:13, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- But then we should rename back per WP:STATUSQUO. Web-julio (talk) 18:36, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Procedurally I agree with that. After restoring the status quo, Category:Fiction about sexuality can be created as a "new" subcategory of Category:Sexuality in fiction. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:24, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- But then we should rename back per WP:STATUSQUO. Web-julio (talk) 18:36, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- So the proposal is to split, moving the category page history & topic articles back to Category:Sexuality in fiction, but keeping the subcats in Category:Fiction about sexuality – right? – Fayenatic London 15:32, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Right, that is another way of saying it. Marcocapelle (talk) 15:41, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yup. "selective split". about the page historial, any process you think is the best Web-julio (talk) 17:35, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
Category:LGBTQ and religion
- Propose renaming Category:LGBTQ and religion to Category:LGBTQ people and religion
- Nominator's rationale: No one in the last discussion considered consistency with the main article (Religion and LGBTQ people).
"LGBTQ" comes first following consistency with family tree, but that can change, observing this discussion. Web-julio (talk) 04:05, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- We should probably just keep to the order of the article. It is about how religion deals with LGBT people, not how LGBT people deal with religion. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:08, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, now I'm neutral on the order. Web-julio (talk) 06:11, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
